The Great Nicotine Free Mental Fog
notsmokinjo replied to Sazerac's topic in Quit Smoking Discussions
I got a double dip into the land of fog... when I initially quit that first 2 weeks was a nightmare... If I couldn't be doing a repetitive task at work that was the same thing over and over and didn't require independent thought I may as well not have been there... so many boring tasks I usually put off were done the first 2 weeks... then I oscillated between the fog and moments of lucidity as the thought of smoking took up less of my time... and then... my world got tilted on its axis, majorly, twice in the space of 2 days .... and I had to be strong and present and there for a lot of people who mean shit to me and I didn't have time to dwell in the fog, or think about having a smoke, I had big time shit to deal with and I just couldn't indulge the fog... I think subconsciously I was treading water furiously to hold my head above the frickin fog but it had to be done and it was... and I was back to normal (well my version of normal) most of the time... much less crazy random thoughts now than earlier in my quit (or maybe I'm just not sharing)... I mean who spends there spare time plotting their countries ascent to the world super power (although how awesome would the world be if Straya ran it)... ok back on track, talking about the fog... so my second dip into the land of fog came when I quit the NRT gum... that was a fun little time for us all wasn't it... mental breakdowns over, oh, just about everything... but the fog came back... and this time I was more prepared for it... and I had the awesome train gang to help out but I controlled the fog by focusing on things... if I could focus on swimming a cartoon shark around an imaginary ocean while I ate tourists and fish or if I could get into a quick flowing game of the answer is a question that went back and forth all (my) night or playing one of the silly A-Z games and trying to find the innocent sounding really rude things to post so I (and maybe a few others) knew what I was up too but no one else did.... or posting on a secret theme and wondering who else would pick up on it.... stupid, silly mindless games within games but it kept the fog minimised.... While the first week of the fog take two was probably more intense than the initial fog it was shorter lived and I saw the light much sooner and without any trauma to push it away. ... Now the fog has cleared (get the occasional little showing for half an hour or so) for the most part and I am back, I can even multi task again... I nearly died when I realised I had lost that ability, totally shattered. But only on Friday at work was I updating spread sheets at the same time I was having a discussion on the phone with a customer and having a hand written note discussion with a co-worker about a third issue.... I am back people... I can now be crazy in three different ways simultaneously! I do think Sslip nailed it though....the fog's impact on my life was definitely proportional to my frequency of think about the coffin nails. I wish I had seen a post like this thread early in my quit when I thought I was going insane... SO ANY REAL NEW NEWBIES READING THIS don't let the fog scare you... there is nothing sinister in it, its not courtesy Stephen King... the fog wont hurt you.... and once you make your way out of the fog you will find yourself in the land of freedom, where the air is clear and you are the master of yourself once more.... walk through that fog, run through it or crawl, however you do it just make sure you do because it is so worth the journey... please keep on the path. -

Confession: I learnt the words to God Defend New Zealand in Mauri and English so I could sing along at the dawn service.

True.. way better (The first time it grew back thick and so dark it was almost black... the 2nd time it grew back almost the same brown it was to start with but finer and curlier (ready frizzy like fairy floss) TNP ... has never gone completely bare down there.

OMG were any of us wheelchair bound midgets??? Wait a second... what were we doing, the three of us, that was such fun?????? Oh and no issues with being judged... we all parent our own way and as long as our kids don't grow up to be mass murderers I figure we nailed it.

^^good choice ... Man this is so hard... I wanna say so many... I am ruling out all the ones I have seen.... I umed and ahhed about heaps but if I am completely, 100% honesty... The Ramones circa 76/77 when they were gritty, and raw, and so on it.... before they were too jaded, pretentious and drug fvcked.... but seriously HEY, HO, LETS GO! If you could be anything you wanted (profession wise) what would it be?

Um.... hmmm... lets see.... This week I have yelled at the Kid for 1. Not doing her homework 2. Not eating her veggies 3. Being a nasty cow and ignoring me when I ask her a question.

Don't worry that you don't like coriander jillar and it makes you sick (probably tastes like soap, yeah?) it just means you are genetically different to the rest of us. Did you not know that there is a genetic link to disliking coriander?

Needs to be early winter just before sunrise when there is a bit of light ccreeping into the day, on the balcony of my favourite cabin at the Blue Lake caravan park in Mt Gambier looking out over the golf course that has a layer of morning fog over the ground about a meter high an a mob of roos getting up for the day... there are brids in the tress singing in the sun and the smel of gums on the air, the air has a coolness to it as you breath in and you cup the coffee with your hands to keep warm slouched in the chair with your legs up on the banister snuggled in ya rug and sip as you watch the sun rise. If you could attend any sport event live anywhere in the world where would it be?

Oh if we're playing the blow up @Sslip's ego I'm in cos I bet the silly bugger doesn't even realise how important he is around here. Talked my silly arse off the ledge more than once and just like last night it wasn't an sos he noticed just something I had or hadn't said.

Yep... isn't it awesome... and all because the shirt (which is just a thick cotton short sleeve shirt) has the school emblem embroidered on the pocket and the trackies have the emblem on the hip pocket.... OH well I only have to pay for one kid and I could have got out of it with a state school that has cheaper uniforms. $93.95 monopoly money.. oops I mean Aussie money is about $70.85US or £52.36 @Sazerac... Sunny might edit for you, I think she is a pro at it... I can't even self edit so I'm out. Enjoy ya wiskey.

This is Paul Kelly... the nearest thing Australia has to Bob Dylan... he writes all his own songs and music, his lyrics have been compiled into a book and are actually part of the senior school english reading list. He has at least one song starting with every letter of the alphabet. To date he has penned 295 songs, he is still working and well he's a frickin legend. He sings my favourite christmas song, 2 of my favourite sport songs and my theme song... I've done all the dumb things.

@reciprocity can we call you Reci the Roofman?? Ok, silly jokes aside, so sorry you had such a bad wind storm, it sounds like it was pretty sever. Things can be fixed but people can't so I hope no one was hurt. @jillar trackies are tracksuit pants, or I think you guys call them sweat pants. Its winter here next month, normally by now its a bit colder, yesterday was cooldish (18dec C but the wind was blowing in of the southern ocean so it was icy... wind chill made it feel much colder. Schools here have uniforms so on sport day they have to wear their special sport uniform so when I went and bought the uniform for winter she says no jumper, no trackie pants... but there were tears last night because her legs were cold.... So for 93.95 I left the shop with one pair of navy trackie pants and 1 short sleeved white shirt, because they were back in stock and I have been hand washing them.

OK... now I know I bang on and on about pineapples but seriously they are a natural anti-histamine and can help ease the symptoms of allergies. Fresh pineapple is best but pineapple juice and even tinned pineapple can be helpful. Hope the air improves and your breathing is better. So despite sruiking the benefits of pineapple for the 10,000th time I am about to take the kid to buy trackie pants for school because she realised yesterday that the shorts wont cut it for winter even if she thought they would..... translation: All her friends wear the trackie pants.
