  1. Congratulations @Octain for being 1 year smoke free! Well done Octain for KTQ for a whole year. A stalwart in the NOPE thread who's brilliant taste in music has helped may relive their youth and rock out a crave. Another one who has been payin' it forward from the very beginning of his quit. Sit back mate, have a drink and enjoy the roast... toasts...and celebrate your year of freedom.
  2. I thought we should start the year with a one the most important questions of all time... it has the power to divide society and its about time we had a definitive answer just who is the greatest Superhero of all time.... now sure Thor would have been the hands down winner... all the chickies would have been giving him their vote but nope... it really is a two horse race..... So our first contender, hailing from the planet Krypton and having the super powers of flight, speed, strength, bulletproofness, xray vision, heat vision, ice breath... and all that other shit he was born with was born super... well he wasn't because back home on Krypton where the sun is different he wasn't so super, but the earths sun allows him to have powers mere earthlings don't.... so he kind of has an unfair advantage over the rest of us... so is really such a hardship or achievement to be a hero... does he have to give anything up... surely he is only doing to to enjoy being able to give his powers a run without blowing his cover.... come one its all kind of a bit selfish.... but he does good and as @Cbdave pointed out ... he can lift a whole chrissy tree with his arse..... I give you Kal-el... aka SUPERMAN. Our second contender, hailing from the city of Gotham and having no super powers what-so-ever but a shitload of money is the one, the only, na-nah-na-na na-nah-na-nah BATMAN. He defo has the best toys, not too keen on sharing them except with orphaned teens which is a bit dodgy if ya ask me, but is he really super? Lets look at this... here is a bloke with more money than Midas, who could sit on his arse and twiddle his thumbs and do sweet f a all day every day if he wanted and be waited on by his crotchety old butler BUT nope... he chooses to spend his wealth inventing gadgets to fight crime and keep the streets safe... he is nothing special, just another bored, rich, dude but he is giving up his money to give something back... sure he has an excuse to play with his fancy arse toys but he gets less out of the superhero deal than Superman surly..... I know one member who will be voting for this candidate, @BAT this ones for you. So who will it be... who does he QT see as the greater hero, the heros hero.... honorable mentions go to Spiderman, Thor and Wonder Woman....
  3. House hunting in New Hampshire.....
  4. Did you know Shane joins the Lido deck in a few days?
  5. Do you think its because your modest and don't want to accept how special you really are?
  6. Oh do you have bran for breakfast to stay regular?
  7. Nah, isn't it fun sometimes to gloat?
  8. Yep... do you think Sslippy and the Wees are gunna be jealous?
  9. Oh Jillar we should try and make Beazel stay don't you think?
  10. Beazel!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How are you?
  11. Woohoo Kate....what a great way to celebrate 3 weeks... wonderful meal with your son. I hope you have a fantastic time. I defo think there should be some cake at your next celebration... lots of cake.
  12. OH Reci... its not looking good for the Aussies, their backs were to the wall yesterday morning and lets just say instead of coming out fighting the basically capitulated... so if there is a miracle they may draw this test but India batting was frickin amazing... they declared at 7/622... yes that's right in two days of play australia could not get them all out and they scored 622 runs... we are currently 0/27... yay... but the thing is if we don't win this test the Indians win the series, if we win this test the Indians draw the series, which means because they hold the Border-Gavaskar Trophy because they had it at the start of the series... it was our job to win it back....but drawing the series is bad... loosing the series.... well it frickin sucks... and you know what India frickin outplayed us... SO man of the series has to be Pujara... nearly got a double centuary.
  13. Well, well, well.... there is a lovely surprise.... who woulda thunk it.... 80% of voters want to see Boo with smooth waxed up legs and one voter wants him to wax his arse! And so the weather induced holiday plans are solved... start melting the wax boyo and get rippin ..... I think I kinda like the fact that we are all a little evil... hahaha.
  14. Welcome Manesha.... sorry to be a little late to the party. Well done you for deciding to take back your life. So... not much to add, besides my welcome, but with your cold... honey and lemon... natural antibiotic and natural antiseptic... they really do help, Irish nanna's wouldn't have been pushing them on sick people for hundreds of years if they didn't... even if its for peace of mind see the doc if you don't improve.
  15. Bloody hell Reci, turn my head for 5 mins and all the party catering turns to crud..... but at least it looks like Martian is partying hard.... Mate, there really only a month between our quit dates well a month and 5 days but let me tell you if it wasn't for your wise words and calming influence my journey would have been a whole different kettle of fish. I knew you had this months ago @Martian5 ... knew it the day i looked at your quit date to see how many years you had under ya belt and well blow me you had less time in and than me, WOT THE??.... right from the get go you did this with class and so much care for everyone else around you... every post you make is worth being read, there is always something to gain and learn from. So for all you have done for me and everyone else on the QT hugest thanks, massive thumbs up cos you are grouse mate. Woofrickin who mate what a ripper rooney of a quit, you frickin did it but there really was never any doubt. So, not sure how many shots you've had, spesh with the lippy comin out but keep partying on my friend.
  16. Not Crazy... and not the first to have those thoughts. So when I quit most of my friends smoked.... now most of my friends still smoke... I don't. Hasn't changed our friendships at all, when I first quit I'd still go sit with them while they smoked but now if I am truthful I hate the smell so move away while they smoke. I did struggle the first few social events because I just didn't know what to do with myself but that side of it is a few weeks and you start to see who you really are without the smoke screen... not an issue socialising, even in a stressful situation without that 'psychological' support... because its really not and dunno where you hale from but we had a whole wack of ads when I was a kid about not needing a drink to have fun well smoking is the same... and you know what its so much more fun to go out and not have to sneak off to smoke or worry that you didn't bring enough smokes or realise you have been somewhere sitting under the pagola with a group of mates for 2 hours and hou have already had 15 smokes... nearly as many as you normally have in a whole day and guess what.... you can still have just a good conversation, you can still have just as much, actually more, fun and you don't miss anything. So the chest pains... possibly a bit of anxiety like you suggested but it never hurts to get checked, even if it is just the peace of mind. OH... and welcome... congratulations on being smoke free for 3 days... breathing through a crave is a great way to go. Reci is right, deep slow breath in, hold, then slowly out.... it is even a bit of therapy for your lungs to help them recover... gotta love killing two birds with one stone. Now you can do this with an imaginary smoke in your hand, or a bit of a straw, or a pencil, or a pen... just be careful with a pen that you don't draw back too hard.... because you can get a mouthful of ink. Keep you blood sugar levels up and stay hydrated.... fruit juice can achieve both of those for you. Nicotine withdrawal will affect your bodies ability to produce insulin, this is short term but why they suggest sucking a lolly (sweet/candy) or having juice... if you have low blood sugar your craves may be worse and your mood is likely to be more volatile. Oh and another thing that helped me beat craves was playing memory match (that turn a card and find the match game) or minesweeper... I got an app for both on my phone so I could do that. Both are short time frame and require a bit of mental focus... so if you are focusing on remembering where a matching card is, you aren't focusing on a crave or smoking thoughts. Finally educate yourself... watch the movies and videos and read the articles here. You don't only have to detox, you need to re-wire/program your brain... that's why the first year is so important, you need to get past all those firsts... and its easier than you think, it gets easier every day. Just take it one day at a time... only worry about the next 24 hours.... because you know what Jamie, you can last a whole day without smoking... you just did it 3 days in a row... don't worry about tomorrow or next week or next month... just worry about today... successful quits are achieved one day at a time.

  21. Congratulations @Martian5 for being smoke free for one whole year! Well done and welcome to the old phartes club. It has been so wonderful to share your journey with you and we are so lucky to have you here on the train. Right from the get go you have paid it forward to those who were January quitters with you and for those who not only came behind but also those ahead. You were in all our corners cheering us on so the queue is going to be pretty big to say thank you, pat you on the back and yell woohoo, well done. Oh and pretty sure we all wanna know... how are you going to celebrate and just what are you doing to do with all that wonderful quit money??? So that gangs all here and its time to party... but please, no earth shattering Ka-Boom.

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
