  2. As deep as I am feeling in my quit (nearly 3 years), I can ALWAYS attribute being 'twitchy' during what used to be a time to light up to HALT. Hungry, Thirsty, need a few deep breaths of Oxygen. Angry, Nervous, Happy, Celebratory, Emotional Lonesome, Bored, Shy Tired. Need a Break. There are more reasons than those listed, of course, but, I can't attribute a signal for something my body/spirit needs to a nicotine crave anymore. The link no longer brings my brain to tobacco first, it brings up a question....'what do you need ?' This has been one of the greatest gifts of being nicotine free - getting to know my basic human needs...what a concept ! Now, I am reminded of my old Habits. "Oh, I always smoked Here", "I always smoked after This" but, it is an old memory with no attraction and no unfinished business. That was then, This is Now. I don't smoke.

  12. oh, good, you bumped Babs' thread on HALT. I have one in there somewhere, the same one I have in my blog Riffing On HALT edited to fix link :)
  13. From what you say, your craves and some of your other feelings coming up can be attributed to H A L T. are you hungry, angry, lonesome, tired. Learning about HALT was a keystone to my quit and continues to this day, it took a long time to un-learn sticking a cigarette in my mouth as a panacea. It took a long time to recognize what my body was really asking for. Both Tobacco and Alcohol mask what lies within and now these are coming to the front. Welcome them, accept them even if they are painful. It is the work for all of us to know ourselves, to accept ourselves and to love ourselves and the rewards of this are hard won, as you know ! Stay Cool, Be of Good Cheer. Where is that beautiful Smile ? You are Free.

  17. 1493, 'Uncovering The New World Columbus Discovered' by Charles C. Mann "... it was Columbus' activities in the years that followed, says writer Charles C. Mann, that really created the New World. When Columbus crossed the Atlantic in 1492, his journey prompted the exchange of not only information but also food, animals, insects, plants and viruses between the continents. It was a tremendous ecological convulsion — the greatest event in the history of life since the death of the dinosaurs" Here is an audio interview with the author I am finding this book really interesting, the facts surrounding Tobacco and it's link to slavery, particularly eye-opening. His prequel, "1492" was good also.

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
