Why dip a toe when it's easier just to jump right in? I tried the "cut down" method before...hated it and had no success with it. The folks above me in this thread know what they're talking about. When you get good advice, take it.

Don't make a permanent decision based on temporary feelings. Stay the course Linda. You'll be thankful you did.

Early mornings and late nights were the toughest times for me during the early days of my quit. I'm a creature of habit who tends to build up rituals around day-to-day activities. This seemed like a curse but turned out to be a blessing. It took a few weeks for my new behavior patterns to become normal. However, as soon as the new habits and rituals were set in stone, I had an entirely new set of habits and rituals that didn't involve smoking. The transition from from the old ways to new ways was a bumpy ride, but in a matter of weeks the ride became straighter and smoother. Your smooth ride is straight ahead Layla. You just have to hang on during the bumpy sections.

Keep it simple Mick. There is only one incontrovertible rule in building a successful quit: DON'T SMOKE! Adhere to that one rule and you're good to go.

There are songs that it is physically impossible for me not to sing-a-long with. For example...

Yep. A black lab named Cash. He's a big ol' goofy dog who left to his own devices would eat all day everyday. He's also a damn good dog. I watched him get very protective of my wife when she was pregnant and now he watches over my little baby daughter. He brings the little one some of his toys. She's only two-months old so she doesn't have much use for chew toys and tennis balls, but it's the thought that counts. That's a good boy...

Welcome aboard Layla. The process of quitting smoking is a gift that keeps on giving. Accomplishing a worthy goal and finding out that you are stronger than you gave yourself credit for will not only help you break free from this deadly addiction but also positively impact your life in many ways. Strength begets strength. Confidence begets confidence. You have made a great choice Layla. Commit to the quit and enjoy the rewards.

The only problem solved by nicotine is the very problem created by nicotine: withdrawal. Feeding the addiction does not solve a problem, it only keeps the addiction alive. The act of smoking or vaping is an exercise in futility.

Yes. Much easier in fact. I don't even remember the last time I craved a smoke. Quitting smoking is a process. Stick with it and you will reach a point where smoking is nothing more than a distant memory.

You just learn to enjoy the moment without ingesting poisons and intoxicants. One of my biggest fears when I quit smoking and drinking was that I would become a dreadfully bored malcontent. Those fears are gone. I have no regrets. Improvise. Adapt. Overcome.

If we're doing T. Rex songs...Here's a good ol' rock and roller.

Ah, yes...We've shared a few songs over the years.

And in California they call those fast food joints Carl's Jr., but in Alabama they call them Hardee's. This is rock-solid evidence for the existence of a parallel universe.
