It is with hope but also some shame that I have returned to this board. I quit smoking and stayed quit for 3 years, a lot of which I credit to this board. Sadly that was several years ago and I took it up again around 4 years ago and smoked ever since. Today I picked myself up and dusted myself off and is Day 1 again. it is such a joy to see some familiar names remain here on the quit train (and too see my username and password still work!!)3 points

Welcome P&P. I am a newbie that has quit on the 2nd of November this year. I already notice that it is going better than when started but still face difficult days. I know there are a lot of benefits of stop smoking. But the one that is so obvious to me already and so very nice is that I have no longer cold feet all the time. Looking backwards I suffered a lot from that. Despite the fact that you have quit before and more or less know what to expect, I recommend that you read a lot to refresh and reinforce your knowledge about this addiction. I wish you all the best in those first difficult days. It helped me to write it down in my own notebook but also here. As you know from your previous quit people stand aside us to encourage and support us in our quit journey.3 points

Welcome back @PorkandPancakes. Sorry to hear about your relapse. I, too, list a multi year quit once. But it’s great that you’re ready to find your Forever Quit this time. And you’ll be extra prepared for the wily tricks our addicted brains play on us. Saddle up for the initial bumps, but remember that they don’t last forever! Keep us posted on how things go.3 points

I'm sorry to hear this but you are doing the right thing in quitting again. Stick around this site like you did before, re-introduce yourself to the quit smoking resources here, pledge NOPE if that helps, and reach out whenever you are tempted to light back up. I know this must be really difficult but you are doing the right thing in beginning your quit again.2 points

Hey all, I am on day one of many quits. The longest and best success I had was when quitnet existed. We all know how that ended. In my futile attempt to find something similar again, I found this site. I hope it’s as active as the former. I really loved the bonfire there. I tried Ex but just not the same feel for me. Anyway, I plan on just taking a pledge daily and read others successes to stay motivated in addition to writing daily about my “why’s” I want to stay smoke free. And drink lots of I am truly grateful for this site and hope it is one more tool for me to stay committed to my quit.1 point

I thought the name Malcolm would be so funny for a girl....the Chudley came from a horror movie back in the early 1980s called C.H.U.D. which stood for Cannibalistic Humanoid Underground Dweller...LOL!! So I shortened it to Chudley, and the Jr part is just because I thought it was funny. Unfortunately, we had to put her to sleep because she had a lot of problems. We got her in 1984 and we had her for 10 years. She was a Calico cat.1 point

Hi @PorkandPancakes Welcome back! I know what it's like to give up a quit that you had for a few years. I too am on my 2nd time quitting. The first time I quit it was for 6 years and this time (and last time), I have been quit for 2 1/2 years. I know this is my forever quit, because I can't go through those withdrawal symptoms again. The 2nd time I quit the symptoms were much worse, so I am not going to go through that again!! It was horrible. My number 1 advice to you is stay close to this board, especially now in the beginning. Do the Daily Nope pledge every single day. I find that it keeps me focused. You quit once, so you can definitely quit again and stay quit. But I am sure you know all of it! Everyone here has given excellent advice, the rest is up to you! I believe, if you follow everyone's advice and stay close to this board, you can quit. We are all addicts, plain and simple, and we will always be an addict. Just like alcoholics go to AA meetings, former smokers have to do the same, and having it online makes it even easier than to go to physical meetings. Good luck to you, I know you can do this!1 point

Hi @lookmawatchmecrash Welcome! We are very glad you have found our site, and you will find a ton of support here, from member advice to so much information on the dangers of smoking, and how to quit successfully. Quitting smoking is a journey that we all know is not an easy one, but it's definitely doable and so worth it in the end. We have quitters here from newbies, quitters who have quit more than once such as yourself (this is my 2nd and last time quitting), and all the way up to 20+ years and everything in between. Our best advice for you in the beginning is to come on this site every day, if you can, and do the daily Nope pledge because it will keep you focused. If you ever find yourself where you feel you are going to give in and smoke, there is an SOS section. Since our members are from all over the world, there is usually someone around most of the time. To help you get your mind off of smoking there is a Games section too. The most popular game is Chicks and Sticks, go and check it out, it's a load of fun! What I used in the beginning of my quit was cinnamon sticks. I would take them and pretend that I was smoking sucking the air in and pretend to blow it out. They really did help me and they tasted great. So much better than dirty cigarettes. If you don't like cinnamon you can use cut up straws. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.1 point

@lookmawatchmecrash You can quit once and for all ... believe it! None of us with long quits are super human beings endowed with special powers to quit smoking. We did the hard work in the beginning to get to where it no longer is even an issue for us. It's a choice. It always will be. Join us.1 point
