  1. “Only a quitter gets a quitter. Ask a non-smoker to give up alcohol for the rest of their lives & then they might understand” I’m so proud of how well I’ve done that I want to shout it from the rooftops - 1 month and counting! BUT, I’ve learnt this is a private battle and it should stay that way. I recently told a non-smoker friend how well I was doing, but they actually made me feel ashamed because they thought smoking was disgusting, the fact that I'd stopped was irrelelvant. I doubt it was intentional but it really took the wind out of me. I’ve realised this IS a personal battle and I should refrain from talking about it too much, or at least choose who I talk to more wisely… saying that I can’t wait to tell my dentist who nagged me to quit for years - appointment is in December so I will be 3 months smoke free if I keep it up! So when I need a pick me up I log on here and instantly I’m smiling! I can see someone’s reached a milestone, I read funny and inspiring blogs. It makes me feel good knowing we are in this together, all battling this in our own ways and each day IS a celebration - and that is a GOOD thing! So to all you fellow quitters - Thank You! You are doing an amazing thing and you keep me going too. Hugs and high fives you lovely lot x :-)

  3. I am having surgery early next year and part of this process is needing clearance from a pulmonologist. I finally had my appointment today. My chest X-rays looked great! (almost 3 packs a day... lungs look good? *wipes brow*) I did great on the breathing test! He was actually surprised to hear that I was ever a smoker. :D Woo hoo! I have sleep apnea (boooooo) This is a good and a bad thing. Bad because it is sleep apnea but good because it is one more justification toward getting the surgery. :D I go for sleep study in mid November. I am not looking forward to that because I probably won't sleep.

  7. I was just thinking about this, Jules. Thinking about what I know and keep private. What I Know Now about myself nearing a year Free from Nicotine. I know I have the ability to Change. I know have the ability to commit to something for success. I know I have the ability to face fears. These, I mostly keep to myself but, they give me a sort of Glow. I know from a warm good feeling about myself inside and from a clarity in my eye. I did not back down. I will not back down. Like our Sarah says, "I am a Tiger ! RARRRR!

  8. I am so sorry to hear this Ex. I am sorry you are letting Nicotine...an inanimate substance rule your life. I know. I know because it ruled mine for too many years to count. You don't need strength. All you need is a commitment to N O P E. You Deserve Freedom.

  12. Hey, I just saw this. Before you give up (and I am not trying to sound harsh, but this is your very life we are talking about) please read every article you can get yours hands on. This thread is a great place to start, if you have read it all, read it again please http://www.quittrain.com/topic/11-how-do-i-quit-smoking-the-newbie-database/ Please don't give up! Strength has NOTHING to do with it, I am not strong at all. If I can do this, I promise you can too. Nothing's done that can't be undone yet. You can still do this.

  14. day seven: going back and forth. I want to smoke a cigarette, no I dont, yes I do, no I dont. the real ness is I do but I dont want the 500 behind that one. and I know if I smoke that one I will smoke its brother, sister, mother and all its nieces and nephews before I go to bed tonight. so here I am again making a commitment again to not take one puff today.

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
