Hint on Posting to Emotional or Aurgumentive Items

Featured Replies

Saw two respected people get a little touchy here. The other place got full of that and went bad for multiple reasons. But it all started with someone typing something that someone else didn't like. Want to give a reminder not to be so serious or get hurt too easy, because it might not be what the poster was trying to say and maybe it was misinterpreted in the translation. I am not referring to the Islanders jiberish either. I mean something can be read more than one way. And something can be posted back only looking at it one way, then a tone is set. That tone will then continue to grow or fester.

This can happen at home, work or with friends, but happens on boards a lot. People feel insulted by someone disagreeing with them. Since it was written it has to be "stuck to" and opinions cant be changed. Bullshit.   I will say it again. Its Bullshit. We are not published writers in a book. We are people hiding in basements with cat pictures on the wall and nobody cares what we wrote a few days later. Nobody but the people we insult in here. Then the festering starts

Pay attension everyone on the little bus...this is the main point and reason....

Emails, notes and threads on boards are the cause of reactions because they only contain the verbal part of communications. When speaking to someone in person, 75 percent of the meaning can be found in non-verbal parts including gestures, tone, volume, eye contact and body positioning. 75 percent is missing in here

I find that reading something that gets my temperature up I should not post for at least an hour. Sometimes half a day, other times no response at all. Or I try to picture the person yelling it with arms crossed and then picture it with someone like Nancy saying it with a warm heart. Can it be read differently? Probably. SO if I am not sure, no comment or I make a joke on it, to lighten the load.

We are a team, so act like it and give the other person a chance to be mistaken without pointing it out. Or you, yourself, might be mistaken as to the real meaning. So don't lash out. Enjoy the conversation and the different points of view.

Except for cat avatars- they are the only exception to this rule and the board should take every opportunity to point out the flaw.

I am bakon and not to be taken serious, ever.

I typed this slow, so everyone would read it slow and get the meaning right the first time. But read it twice, to practice reading the emotional/argumentive post twice and find another meaning.

Indeed, perception becomes reality.............................

From that point on, there is seldom a point of return .....................

I believe that practicing detachment and putting distance between messages and one self are two very important aspects of "surviving" in the cyberworld of communication. Not easily done though...........................

you don't know how many times I typed something out in response to a post that upset me...and then never hit the "post" button.  I've lost count actually!

I try not to let my emotions do the posting.  Take some time.......cool off....deep breaths.  Chances are....you will no longer feel the need to post...or if you do..it will be more thought out and most likely not received as nasty or rude.

Great post Bakon!!

Happy Easter!!

Good post my friend. :)

And the longest one I've ever seen from you.

Thank you.

And happy Easter to you and Mrs. B

Me too Babs.

I live by the code of if I'm angry don't respond till I'm calm, can then at least apply calm and logic to my response if I respond at all.

Great post Bakon.

I have done the same thing  babs typed something out in response but changed my mind and thought better of it.......I dont have to win an argument online nor do I need to start one it is not worth it.....Life is too damn short to sweat stuff.......shake your head if you dont agree and move on

Peace and happiness :)
