  • Slept last 2 nights all night long without dreaming about that night and without sleep aids! :-)

  • I slept from 11- 5 am.. no dreams no restlessness out cold. I feel exhausted this morning but that's what coffee is for right? Today I am hopeful for some sunshine and maybe even some smiles. Thank

Lmao if only that easy. ..

batteries then?

Jess, can you try putting on some headphones and listening to something soothing when you're in bed? I like Dan Gibson's "Solitudes" which is a combination of nature sounds and classical music. He has lots of different ones. Find them here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rQQ9gKizOEU

I find it impossible to stay awake when I'm listening to Jon Kabat-Zinn's Mindfulness exercises. Again, he has several. Check his talks out here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=daU-xneLA0g

My favorite is Emmitt Miller's relaxation self-hypnosis tapes here https://www.youtube.com/user/EmmettMillerMD

Don't suffer with tossing and turning. Use some of your cigarette savings to get yourself an iPOD and some of these relaxation recordings. They really work.

Aww Jess, I think it's probably a time thing, some periods of our life that feel stressful of course reflect on our sleeping and dreaming patterns. It is our bodies way of coping or not coping sometimes with what we are trying to process. I do self medicate with cold remedies when I just really need to rest...I have also taken doc prescribed meds in times gone by. Maybe that's an option?

Jess, there's a lot going on right now, so hopefully when it gets better you will start having improved sleep.

Can you put on your favorite music, not too loud?

great tips....and like chrys says.....meditation recordings work wonders.

oh and bakon

you are killing me with the battery comment

:)

Melatonin and Meditation... it will work wonders.

PS.  And what Bakon says

Thanks for all the tips. I think I'm going to try the cold medicine. Maybe it will knock me out. I need a good night's sleep...keep waking up in a dream re-living the nightmare. Making my way through the stages of grief...vascillating between anger and barginning..not sure if being a counselor is helpful to me or not. I'm guessing that it is as I understand the process....

Have you spoken to you Primary doctor? Some may have mercy and may prescribe something for you to calm your nerves and ease you into sleep. Counselors may not seem to help at first but it is good to work through it with them because they really do help.  I'm sorry that you are going through all of this.

Hopefully it will help you get some rest. If not Jess, go see the doctor. xx

Hi Jess, so sorry you're not getting a restful sleep.

I agree with DD and consider chatting to your doctor, might be able to help hopefully.

I really just want to turn back the clock and I cant. If we would have left later, earlier, not at all... maybe if I was driving I might have gone a different route...I can't change a damn thing...Okay I know this....

I am going to try zzzquil tonight. I do not want an addictive sleep aid.I know that I am trying very hard to keep my quit and that like giving up the smokes it will take time for my heart to mend as best it can.

I cannot change that I was a smoker anymore than I can the events of that night...

I'm a survivor in so many ways...

Jess... I agree about the addictive sleep aids.. you have to be careful.

Try some natural alternatives first.

Don't do that to yourself Jess. Don't dwell on the "what ifs" because you will drive yourself crazy.

Zzzquil is Diphenhydramine... which is generic Benedryl... save yourself some money and buy the store brand generic Diphenhydramine I will look up the dosage for you. ;) ETA 2 diphenhydramine is equivalent to 2 zzzquil. :D

Thanks Jen I will try this. I really need something..I feel like giving up the quit until this all passes.I know I can quit again when some time passes.

Your quit is too important to give up - and smoking will not help you sleep any better either - your mind is just busy and that is not going

to be quelled by a few puffs.  Deep breathing, meditation are always good suggestions - take a hot bath or shower - I would also suggest

some tea (I usually coat the bottom of the cup with Honey, add some Lemon and 1 or 2 shots of whiskey or brandy before topping off with hot

water)  yes it is a hot totty used for colds etc.. but it also helps to sleep too.

Just saying - keep your quit sleep will always follow  :)

I get that smoking won't help me sleep but it may give me some relaxation and diversion. I'm at work and will ponder this I just need to have that stress relief.I have jogged read watched some videos discussed what's going on and had a few drinks. I can always quit again.

Jess. no.

Cigarettes do NOT relieve stress. They cause it.

Cigarettes do not relax you. They stress you.

Life is throwing crap at you. It does that. To smokers and non-smokers alike.

Jess. Please don't smoke. Just for today.
