First day: huge craving!!!

Featured Replies

Huge craving!!  :help:

I´ve just been non smoking for 5 hours!

OK, this is completely normal - 5 hours is a really long time in the scheme of nicotine withdrawal...

Let's get you through it in tact. Try to write down the list of reasons why you quit in the first place - write them all down, and read them all out aloud.

firstly breath nice and slow in hold and then nice and slow out keep doing this

take a drink of something sweet

run up and down stairs or jump on the spot for 3 minutes

stick loud music on and dance like a looney tune

say to yourself you are ok you can do this its ok

Small glass of cold fruit juice.  Quick walk.  Crossword puzzle.  Whatever - don't let yourself get fixated, stay busy.

You will live through it, as amazing as that sounds.  You will ! and be so empowered on the other side.  Good Woman, Natalie.

NOPE

how you doing nat you should be knackered and out of breath now?

Yes...everything everyone has said above... get busy doing something else.

Sometimes when I had a hard crave I would say to myself... Let's hold off on addressing this crave in 15 minutes...and usually I would get busy doing something and before I knew it... it had been an hour.

Listen... can't tell you that this beginning of your quit is not going to suck... you just have to beat it.  Pretend you are sick... a 3 (or so) day sickness... you are going to feel like shit... but when you get better... life will be great.

Hang on...and keep on keepin on.

How you doing, Nat?

Shower, I could cry in there and no fire!

Jump on the spot, scream nope.

This first day it's such a shock. Keep talking. If you get busy and distract yourself with every bit of time that passes your power to say no thanks increases!

Talk to us, keep posting.

Scream, cry...PS buy extra tissues!

You are healing your body, it's worth this time, trust that if nothing else. x

Keep talking natalie, it should be easing off by now. The craves last 5 minutes max. We can hold on for 3-5 minutes.

Where you at??

And hugs for going through that!

There are some epic positives coming though! 5 hours free, already healing your body and saving cold hard cash!

Natalie how are you?  You don't need to give into the crave work through it,,,,,

How you doing Nat? I second all of the above ....have you pre-responded to your own SOS yet on that thread? do that it will help put your reason for quitting down on paper......list all the benefits of quitting......you got this.......come back to this thread and let us know how you are doing.

Please, tell us how you are doing Nat - we've all been where you are now...

Natalie !  Maybe taking a nice bath and a dreamy nap ?  Let us know, won't you ?

Hi guys! Thank you!

I was lying in bed doing some deep breaths as you told me and I feel asleep LOL. That´s why I was not answering. It helped, though.

Just think to yourself that tomorrow will be easier than today was. You are doing great and you can get through this.

Sleeping is good!

So, you must be at about 8 hours now? Really great :)

Have you thought about setting up a ticker (the thing in our signatures)? It really helps to keep you motivated, and it might distract you for a while trying to set it up ;)

7 hours 37 minutes according to my phone  :)

Yes! How do I set up the ticker?

Normal to feel that way. Keep really busy for the first week. Cleaning, exercise, shopping, anything to keep you busy will help you get through this easier.

I happen to be the resident ticker expert!  See below:

You make your own ticker...If you want one similar my top one click on mine, it will take you to the Ticker Factory website. Click All Tickers on the right, and then Event under Wedding, Birthday, Anniversary, and you can choose your own wording, etc.   You enter your information and create your ticker.  Then, copy the address they give you.  Come back here and click on My Profile (in drop down by your name) and the click Edit Profile.  Select signature on the left side, and then paste the address in the signature box.  When you click Save Changes the ticker appears!

Just a note…The ticker doesn't always show up on the smartphone version of the posts, but you will be able to see it appear on the PC and tablet versions.

If you want one similar my bottom one go to

Tina's Quit Meter

Create your ticker, and instead of copying the address, right click on the ticker and Copy Image, and then come paste in signature box.  Lots of us have two tickers because we like the pretty top one, but like that the bottom one keeps track of the cigs we have not smoked and the money.  I hope this helps!

Another one that is popular comes from TickerClub.  Go there and choose the Smoking category.  Make your ticker, copy address, come back to Edit signature and paste address...when you click Save Changes your ticker will appear!
