Wow they must be blocking all schools-I thought it was just a snarky way to shut me out since I was banned.

We have similar security in place at work but since the Navy has a Facebook page, they don't block social media, most message forums etc.  When you see that a certain site is blocked, it's from the network you're on and not from the site itself that you're trying to view.  A message board blocking an entire school system, company etc. (way too much work and a waste of time) would be severely limiting it's audience or those it's trying to reach which works against the very thing it's trying to do - reach new people.

A lot companies use programs like Websense to further enhance their security and also to limit what employees are able to view using their computers.  I know of certain companies that won't allow any message forums to be viewed.  You could be viewing a site all along and then all of a sudden, for whatever reason, the program or the IT person blocks it.

For example, I have spent literally dozens of hours searching IP addresses of guests that are seen multiple times in the same session and have to determine if their legit crawlers or crawlers simply searching our site following the rules in place for robots etc.  For example, that one local crawler (here in MD) hit the site 26,000 times in one session (10,000'ish actually) so it's now blocked/banned.  There have been lots of bots from Taiwan and Germany that have been very, very taxing on our bandwidth (determines how much hosting costs each month and can change at anytime we exceed our bandwidth limits) and so they have been banned.  IPVision (the creator of this software) has our forum on their servers and they've banned a couple as well for the same reason.

When I'm logged into the site, 50% of the time I'm not even viewing the forums and am looking at the guest list trying to weed out the bad crawlers that use up our bandwidth.

Anyway, if this site ever shows up as blocked, it's not on our end and instead the settings/security that's in place for whatever network you're on.

I'm a bad crawler.  It hurts my knees.......

Unless I'm drunk...... and then I can crawl like a son of a bitch.
