  1. The Sarge had 10 or 12 in that last pack - not really sure anymore but it was more than half the pack. He took two out. One he smoked, one set it aside, and chucked the rest. He still has the one he set aside to this day: It now lives in a vacuum sealed shrine to all that was ruin in Sarge's health. A reminder of The Bad Times. He's probably going to hold onto it[1] until his dying day. Sarge is weirdly sentimental that way. (he should probably clean under those fingernails when coming in from the garden and taking photos ...) Easy Peasy FOOTNOTE: [1] ... but not, y'know, smoke it.

    Easy Peasy!
  3. All aboard that's comin' aboard - today's QuitTrain is leaving the station ... Easy Peasy
  4. Promotion for Week 2 Easy Peasy
  5. Great day in Red River Gorge and Muir Valley. About 4 miles of hiking with heavy elevation turnover (up and down up and down up and dow very large hills (400 feet elevation change). Got all the climbs we wanted to in at Animal Cracker Wall . Mrs. Sarge, who is relatively wigged out at Lead Climbing due to fear of falling, lead all three of the following routes and upped her game quite a bit this weekend: Casey , Harvey, and Rikki-Tikki-Tavi. Sorry. No pics this time. It was just us (Sarge & The Mrs) so nobody to hold a camera (one of us climbing, one belaying (holding the rope) - no free hands for pics). *** For today's Special Sauce: Mrs. Sarge wants to run a 12-miler. Her 10k win (age group) Saturday has boosted her motivation and she wants to train hard to place decently at the Half Marathon the end of this month. FML. Sarge was planning on an 8-miler, easy/slow pace tonight. Now she's a gonna kill him with a fast paced 12-miler. Easy Peasy
  6. Sarge & Mrs. are loaded up and en route here. Best kind of exercise: Easy Peasy
  7. What a HORRIBLE run. Sarge took 7th place, overall and 2nd in Age Group (40-44) ... but was waaayyyy off pace. Wanted to run 7:05 to 7:10 ended up running 7:55. Ouch! Mrs. Sarge, of course, having to always be better, one-upped The Sarge by taking 6th place (Women's) and WINNING her age group (40-44). She took home a medal today. ... and she still smokes. Sigh. Easy Peasy
  8. T-minus 1 hour and 10 minutes. Goal time: 44-and-change (10k) http://www.runningtime.net/Races/Williamsburg/Home.htm Easy Peasy
  9. Yeah .... umm ... sorry 'bout your situation and all that but we all deal with a metric crap-ton of stressors in our lives. What does that have to do with smoking? Why do you insist on connecting the two, as if they were somehow related. HINT: They're not.[1] Non smokers have stress, too ... and they don't go run to light one up. Until you learn to uncouple stress from smoking a cigarette, you will repeat the inevitable. Easy Peasy FOOTNOTE: [1] Actually, they are - but in the reverse way that you have them associated in your mind. Smoking CAUSES additional stress, it doesn't relieve a thing. Not a damned thing.
  10. If you want to quit, you will. If you want to smoke, you will. Which do you want more? Easy Peasy Lemon Breezy
  11. Pffft. You're past all that. There is nothing to guard. You are a non-smoker. Easy Peasy
  12. How many has The Sarge NOT smoked? Just the one.. One. Easy Peasy
  13. The Sarge awards you your first stripe: Easy Peasy
  14. Sarge fibbed to his Doc for just this scenario: "Hey Doc - I left my BP meds in a hotel in East Timbuktu on vacation last week and they can't find 'em to return 'em to me. I'm out - can you write another prescription?"[1] BAM! Instant 90-day Emergency Supply[2]. Put a 10-day supply in with the Camping Kit, a couple day's worth in the Overnight Bag, a couple days worth in the Car, and a couple days worth at Mom & Pop's place (the only place Sarge might be overnight on a regular basis and forgot to bring his meds.) Now Sarge never wonders if they're gonna have 'em at the pharmacy this week or not. Easy Peasy FOOTNOTE: [1] A lie. Out and out, through and through. They were in the cabinet where they've always been. [2] Low dose generic Lisinopril is CHEAP. $4 bucks for 90-day bottle ($10 bucks if Sarge forgets his Insurance Card) - it was worth the extra $ to have peace of mind on an Emergency Supply.
  15. The Sarge bought a Trango Big Bro[1], Number 4, last week. In preparation for doing this route next month: The approach to the climb is, itself, a climb. There's a small climb on the trail to The Arch that is unprotectable any other way - it needs a Big Bro (or go home) and the Sarge won't do it without adequate protection. Was on sale. Cost: 76 bucks. Less than two week's of the old Phillip Morris bill. FOOTNOTE: [1] its for protecting from a fall on climbing routes with really (really) wiiiiiiiiiiiide cracks that are too big for anything else to fit.
  16. 5k (3.1 miles), dreadmill (0% grade - no hill) @ 21:48 (7:02/mile.) Ramping up speed for a 10k this weekend. Hoping for 7:05 - 7:10 pace Saturday morning. Nowhere near a PR, but the best Sarge can hope for given his current state of fitness. Easy Peasy
  17. BTW - Here's what The Sarges hauled out of the Strawberry Patch today - 13.7 pounds of fruititarian yummers in today's haul: Sure, the rabbits and birds get a few pounds, but when your season's harvest is 50 or 60 pounds, we really don't mind. Easy Peasy
  18. Lolwut? Carnivourus rabbits? They're strictly vegetarian 'round The Sarge Homestead and we like to call 'em "dinner" when they find the garden. Do yours prefer Peking Duck or Duck a L'Orange? Easy Peasy
  19. Sarge doesn't fish much. Doesn't see the point. If he wants to eat fish and catch it himself, he'll toss a net. More efficient. Everyone else does, though. Friends. Family. Neighborhood kiddies. There's everything from 1/2 oz. Bluegill to 25 pound Catfish in there. There are 3 giant grass carp that no one's ever caught, but they look to be as big as a small submarine when they surface to soak up the sun's rays. Occasional couple of pounder large-mouth bass ... and even some 18 inch long goldfish. There's a smaller goldfish pond upstream that spills over into this one occasionally with heavy rains. Ever let a goldfish grow 25 years? Yeah. They get downright HUGE.
  20. 10 out of 10: Would hike that. Easy Peasy
  21. The Sarge isn't a vegetarian, pe se, but ... y'know ... Easy Peasy
  22. The Sarge pats[1] himself on the back[2] every day.[3] Every. Day. You should, too. Easy Peasy FOOTNOTES: [1] It's not always a "pat". [2] It's not always on the back. [3] And it ain't always for quitting.
  23. At least once a month or so Sarge ends up picking up a pack or three for Mrs. Sarge. Wanna feel real bad? Until last year, Mrs. Sarge owned and operated (50% with her brother) a local convenience store. Anyone care to hazard a guess as to the number one item sold? Yeah. Beer. But number two was cigarettes. Beer and cigarettes. Some of the very few things that pick up and sell better in a shitty economy. 300 packs a day ... on busy days (like this past holiday weekend) it would have been closer to 500. That'll make you feel like a shitbird as a recent quitter. The Sarges dervied about 1/4 of their income for the last ... 8 years or so (??? can't even remember when the place was bought, but it was sold last year) - 1/4 of household income came from selling beer and cigarettes. The Sarge is a shit. Easy Peasy EDIT: because words and numbers are HARD. Fixed typos.
  24. ==> "I can't believe I used to smoke !" I know, right? Easy Peasy
  25. So Mrs. Sarge turned last night's strawberry haul into this morning's strawberry muffins (2.3 pounds of yum harvested yesterday) ( ... turned into one dozen portions of yum-yum this morning. ) And slightly modified the muffin recipe into Strawberry Bread that's in the oven at this very moment. No pics until it comes out and cools ... Easy Peasy Strawberry Squeezy
