  1. Chani! This is an exciting day! Very good to see you here. :) You''re going to love it!
  2. Wait, the coffee is free? Ava told me it was $1.00 a cup and that if I pay her she'll make sure you get it....
  3. Interesting article for those folks who smoke "socially". I think it reinforces what we all know and that is that no amount of smoking is safe. Source: New York Times Magazine Date: October 8, 2008 Author: STEPHANIE SAUL Among the 45 million smokers in the United States, about 19 percent don’t smoke every day. These occasional smokers — people who smoke only on the weekends or just a few times a week in social situations — often believe they are avoiding the health worries typically associated with smoking. But new research shows that even occasional cigarette smoking can impair artery function, a sign of looming heart disease. In a small study, researchers at the University of Georgia recruited 18 healthy college students, half of whom were nonsmokers. The other half were occasional smokers, puffing less than a pack a week and had not smoked for at least two days before undergoing testing. The study, published online in the journal Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology, used ultrasound scans to measure how the students’ arteries responded to changes in blood flow. “We wanted to determine whether occasional smoking can impair flow-mediated dilation and found that repeated bouts of cigarette smoking — even if classified as occasional — appear to increase the risk for developing cardiovascular disease in otherwise healthy, young people,” said lead author Lee Stoner, a former doctoral student and now a researcher at Christchurch Hospital in New Zealand. The researchers said the lasting effect of occasional smoking on artery health was surprising. “Most people know that if they have a cigarette or two over the weekend that it’s not good for their arteries,” said study co-author Kevin McCully, a professor of kinesiology in the University of Georgia College of Education. “But what they may not be aware of is that the decrease in function persists into the next week, if not longer.”

    Hi there xoxo

Wonderful news Babs!! I love this new journey we have taken on. I think once we reach our goals we should all take a trip to Vegas! The Quittrain could have a "reunion" of sorts, meet and greet!! Think of the trouble we could all get into in Vegas. lol

    SOS

OMG, I missed this too....So glad you got through it with your quit intact. As much as it sucks, these experiences tend to strengthen our quits. It always amazes me how our minds can go back as though you never quit months and even years after a quit. As time goes on it lacks the "kick" it had in the beginning, but it can still happen on occasion and just goes to show how deep the addiction is. The lies of the addiction really. Smoking when in crisis does not make you feel better in the least, but we once brainwashed ourselves to believe it did. Big hugs Tracey!! xoxoxoxo And a big hug to Paul too for being such an Angel. I just love the Quittrain and how we all have each others backs.
  7. HAT!! so good to see you. :):) You have been missed.
  8. Babbles is around, just super busy right now. I miss the folks on this list too. Glad Comrade checked in and I see Holski posted too! Would love to know that all is well with the others.
  9. My family has been so busy these past few weeks I have not been able to be here much. I miss you all!!! I have been enjoying the warmer days and sunshine. So good after such a long, cold winter. I've also been working on getting in better shape and have lost nearly 20 lbs since April. 20 is my first goal so now I take on the next 20, once I've lost 40 lbs total I will be back at my pre quit weight. I want to do better than that though. I really want to get into the best shape of my life. I'll be around more now as things have settled down some with the kids out of school. How are things with all of you? I hope you are all well. xoxo
  10. Awww, I'm glad it's done and she's home. Praying she heals quickly!

  23. Good job hopping back on! The quit train stops for passengers anytime, day or night. All you need is to want to quit smoking. That's the secret to success, you have to want to and you have to be willing to fight for it no matter what!! Stop listening to the addiction when it tells you that one more won't hurt or you'll do it tomorrow. The reality is that today IS tomorrow. You got this!! So happy you are here with us. :)

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
