  2. Good work John.
  3. Hey Boo, what did you do on Saturday morning? Well...nobody asked, but I'm going to tell you anyway. I ran the Big Daddy Loop on Lookout Mountain in just a shade under three-hours. Ten miles...from Craven's House to the Guild Trail then down to Skyuka Springs and back up to the bluff. There are people who can run longer than me and a whole bunch of people who run faster than me. The thing is: this was a major accomplishment for me. Back when I was smoking, I wouldn't have even considered trying to run up and down a mountain. When you break down one barrier, the others start to fall more easily. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to pat myself on the back some more.

  13. You're doing exactly what you need to be doing. We conditioned ourselves for years to turn to smoking during stressful times. It takes a while to recondition ourselves as non-smokers. You confronted the situation and made the right choice. With repetition, that choice becomes automatic. Stick with NOPE and this addiction cannot touch you.

  16. Weighing the benefits of quitting smoking against the negatives of gaining a few pounds will show that the trade-off is a net positive. Keep the main thing the main thing. As for drastic diets...they suck. They're not sustainable and since the human body is an adaptation machine, you'll begin seeing diminishing returns rather quickly. Gradual lifestyle changes is where your focus should be. Gimmicky diets and crash course exercise programs that guarantee major bodily changes over the course of just a few weeks are a combination of marketing and complete bullshit pumped out by the fitness industry. A comprehensive health and fitness plan is a marathon not a sprint. One step at a time will get you to where you want to be.

  21. I was fed up with the amount of control my addiction had over my life. Needing to feed the beast at least a couple of times an hour. The addiction was controlling where I went. I stopped going to movies, concerts, and football games because I couldn't smoke in any of the venues anymore. I finally hit a wall with smoking and decided that even if quitting sucked, it wouldn't be any more of a pain in the ass than continuing to smoke. I had a choice to make. Either continue smoking and hating it realizing that I wasn't strong enough to beat my addiction. Or, stop tip-toeing around what I knew needed to be done and dive into the quit headfirst. There was some doubt and irrational fears in the early days, but I had finally made a real commitment to myself and was not going to fail again. A year later, I appreciate every moment of the process. Even those times that were a bit uncomfortable.

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
