My goodness reci.  Our next big trip is suppose to be Maine and New Brunswick.  Why is it so bad up there.  Canada certainly was better with the lockdown and social distancing.  Why do you not have access to the vaccine.  Curious to know if you think it is because of the socialized medicine up there.  We pay out the wazoo for medicine down here, while our pharmaceutical companies are getting rich.  Health insurance is so expensive and many can't afford it.  We did have access to the four different vaccines.  Right now, they are saying that people have slowed on getting the vaccine and there are many open appointments down here.   I guess the grass always looks greener on the other side.

Hang in there.  I keep thinking this will start to improve!

It's not the healthcare system but the fact that there is NO vaccine being manufactured here in Canada so we have had to write contracts with producers like Pfizer, Moderna Astra Zeneca etc and it gets shipped in from other places. There have been start up issues with some of the manufacturers which has delayed  the volumes we were supposed to get early on. We had to vaccinate front line worker, old folks homes etc. 1st. That' s done now so they are starting by age group to vaccinate the general population but it's going slowly due to available vaccine.

The other factor that has jumped the case numbers are the variants of Covid that are now running rampant. The UK, Brazil & South African variants are more easily transmissible and more deadly. They are filling the hospitals and ICU's with not only old folk but now the younger folk too. Last year it was mainly us old people who had to worry. Now it's everyone who's getting really, really sick. The government also decided now to jump the interval of 1st & 2nd shots from roughly a month to 4 months😮 This based on NO scientific data but rather it takes the heat off them somewhat if more people have at least 1 shot I guess.

The east coast is doing a lot better. Few cases because they shut their borders early last year. No one in and if you go out, you quarantine 14 days upon return. It largely worked for them. Their lock down is even stricter now than last year. I got in last fall to deal with my mothers house clearing and sale. Today, I would not be allowed in for that reason. They get almost no international flights direct to their airports either which makes a huge difference. Toronto gets hundreds of thousands of international travelers a week so guess what comes in with them? You have to supply a negative Covid test result on arrival. Lots of fake ones being caught by border officials. You must be tested again on arrival and quarantine at a government approved hotel for 3 days at your expense while waiting for test results. People are just saying F-You and walking out the doors. Cops can't stop them - charter of rights and freedoms etc. Ha! If I was running things it would be shoot to kill on those cheaters (that's why I'm not in charge by the way 😂).

Anyway, it's a mess for now. It'll improve slowly I suppose as more get vaccinated. I really do wonder though about international travel. I'm starting to think years before that really gets going again. It will be a long, slow process I think and the experience will not be quite like we remember things being.

WTF!!!

10-15 cm (4-6 inches) snowstorm coming tonight 🥶

I've already mowed the lawn twice! Where's my fruking snow shovel

Yeah! Someone up there has it in for us here. Total lockdown then, let's throw some snow at them🥶 Let them shovel snow while in lockdown 😷

We are getting it to reci.  I thought Ohio was the only place you have to get the grass cut before the next snow storm.  The weatherman is talking 2-4 inches.  Please let this be the last of it.!

We got about 3 inches of snow this morning as well. Then it's going to be back in the mid 50's by Friday.

Mother nature did not disappoint! I think we got more than they said and it's still coming down lightly.

The good news is it's not building up on roads or driveways so .... no shoveling Yay!

Wow ...Good old England would be stuffed with that amount of snow ...

The country would come to a halt !!!...

The good thing about spring snowfalls is they don't last long. Sun is out now and melting has begun. Will be sunny & +14 C on Friday so this mess will be history!

So here's roughly the same shots a few hours later ........................

Do folks in other parts of the world rush out to buy bread and milk when there's snow in the forecast?

People laugh at Southerners for doing that.  I was just curious if that's strictly a Southern thing.

There was a time when I would go out and buy a carton of cigarettes and a half-gallon of whiskey if there was snow in the forecast.  Those days are behind me now.

I've seen a lot of snowstorms and I can't recall any of them keeping me in one spot for long so no, we don't 'stock up' on anything before a snowstorm.

You're right on the smokes thing though. If there was a big storm coming the next day, I would buy that 'extra pack', just in case? That's about the only thing I could not have gone without for a day.

I've only really been "snowed in" once.  Back in March of 1993, Southeast Tennessee got two-feet of snow.  Shut things down around here for over a week.

The sensible people stayed in.  Young Boo was out trying his hand at hiking in the snow and sledding down a steep hill on a piece of sheet metal.  I also had an old Ford Bronco with 4-wheel drive at the time and my thoughts turned to "let's see what this sumbitch will do in the snow."

Kinda like that old joke: What are the famous last words of a redneck?  That ain't shit, watch this!
