Let's get serious for a minute...

Featured Replies

I have been accused in the past of being in a clique ,when all I did was to support someone ,who was going through a really bad time...

I have never felt like here....

Although we are people who talk through a screen.....feelings can get very hurt.....

I feel I support every one here....and do try and recruit.....

How the board is set out....I will leave to the clever people....

cliques are for nerds who think they are cool

I am so late seeing this but there are many good points on here - I am still kind of a newbie in some regard as far as when I joined but I feel like I have been here for much longer. I have been welcomed with open arms or at least it feels that way. I remember my first day I didn't know how to navigate the site and clicked on chat by accident and within 1 minute I was being asked if I needed anything etc.. There are all walks of life on the QT from all over the place but there is certainly a common purpose.... to stay quit and support everyone in our community. I think it is great for posts like this to get the response it is - it just reiterates how dedicated everyone is here. The games are a great way to participate and to get to know other people on the QT - it's like anything else in life - you get out of it what you put into it..

I would consider us all a family of misfits, friends and the like way before I would even utter the word clique.  I know I would still be a smoker if I didn't stumble upon this site.

Jess you made some great suggestions C you had some valid points Colleen and others also have great points and responses - every person is different just like every quit is different -some people need extra assurance and hand holding others are better at talking them down from the ledge - therefore you can't just have go to or default links alone - some yes, an orientation, some education or big brother or sister sure why not - either way it is up to each individual to decide how and where they want to go for help. For me it is the QT. Good Luck! Slainte!!

I never felt welcomed in the other place. The entire time I was there (almost two years), I had maybe 800 posts. They treated quitting smoking like it was all doom and gloom.

While I can appreciate the seriousness of quitting, I deal with stress through humour. This month (so far) and last month have been very difficult for me and that's why I've mostly posted in Socializing. I just needed a release from feeling sad all the time.

I understand where you're coming from Chyrs. You (and everyone else) have offered up some great suggestions.

I love how everyone here has handled this discussion.  I think the fact that Chrysalis was able to post her feelings (which are just as valid as anyone else) and the thread did not have to be locked and members were not banned for having a different view is the best possible proof that there really is no comparison between us and any other sites.  This site has been here less than year so of course there are fewer threads than a site that's been around for years.  That said, if you view past threads on the other site there are tons and tons of unhelpful threads with members fighting and lots and lots of social threads and groups of people who have formed strong bonds while they worked on their quits.  It's a normal part of the process in my opinion.  I do think we can always think of ways to appeal to all types of people.  Some are more serious than others and we want to help them too absolutely!

I have always spent more time on the social side of the board  because it was a distraction for me.  At first I read a lot but after a while I knew what I needed to know and it became more about getting more distance between me and my last cigarette.  That and the companionship of others who were feeling the same things is what helped me..  For anyone reading this thread I encourage you to post in the counting, cat, dog or any other thread as often as you want or need if that is what it takes to keep your mind off smoking.  If what you need is something else, then let us know!  xx

Jenny made a very good observation earlier.  We have a very active blog section which replaces some of the things that would otherwise be written as threads instead of blogs.  Our site is very active.  Trust me, I pay the bill and know our rolling average of unique users per 48 hours.  :)

deleted .. it seemed off topic .. sorry

ps -she said one minute in title...I assumed it was over since it took me more than minute to type answer

You are surprised that it lasted more than a minute?  Why am I not surprised at that?
