August 21, 201412 yr I am sitting in the mall (dentist office is here) trying not to cry. My dentist appointment finished about an hour ago. My teeth are terrible. Cavaties everywhere... Root canal is probably fractured and needs a crow. This alone is going to cost me about $2000. I have no insurance, so I am screwed. On top of my school books, which will cost about $800. I don't know where the hell I am going to find this money. I don't think the wedding is going to happen, not after I tell Steve how much this is all going to cost. I never get a break. My life is stress all the time. Ugh, so depressed. Sorry, just needed to vent.

August 21, 201412 yr Awh soo sorry hun, I was were you are last November, but I got through it with nicer teeth and hubbys empty pockets lol Can you pay a bit weekly, I went every month and got one thing done each visit, I had to get a false tooth, filling, tooth out and periodontal disease treatment, cost a small fortune, seriously you would not believe the price of dentists here, fcuking rediculous but worth it in the end. Can you do that, pay a bit each week or break it down to a way you can afford it, maybe take something out from the wedding fund if possible, Steve is mad about you and he will be fine and supportive and I bet he will think of a way to get you sorted, chin up pet, it will all work out xxxx

My wife and I both hard work done recently after both not going for about 10 years... And hugs ((leanna)). xx That's one thing my husband and I learned early in our marriage. Most of the time he just sits back and lets me handle everything. And that works most of the time. But when I get stuck or frazzled or overwhelmed I tell him. Then he jumps in with both feet and fixes everything chop chop! So we're both happy-- I get to control everything (most of the time) and he gets to be the hero (often enough).
August 21, 201412 yr Leanna, when I was a poor graduate student I couldn't afford some necessary dentistry. A friend recommended that I go to the local dental school. They had an income-based sliding fee scale that I could afford. I was treated by senior students but an experienced dentist was looking right over his shoulder. It worked out fine.

Ross, I think I am going to go to a second dentist and get another opinion. This guy wants tondo two fillings on Sept. 3rd for teeth he thinks might have cavaties.. Shouldnt he know whether or not I have cavaties? What the hell did i pay him $160 for today if he isn't sure? I will respond to everyone once I am home. Having a hard time on my kobo
August 21, 201412 yr You poor thing I can see how you will be upset with it all but hun you have break it all down firstly you have To sort out the causes for the pain as you cannot go on like that but don't let the dentist talk you into something you don't need doing Take things one at a time it will all work out even though it seems over whelming Go have a hug and a cry all will be ok xxx
August 21, 201412 yr yeah totally seek out a different dentist for sure I have had a lot of work done myself over the years (I have a upper and lower partial) Took me a bit to find a dentist that would work for me....the one I have now is awesome and reasonable the others were asses I had one who I feel didnt want any patients with bad teeth period and was very judgmental. So many times I walked out of a dentist office crying not because of the cost but how the asses treated me. Until I found my current dentist who helped me get my mouth in order so to speak. There has to be a dentist who would work with you on payments make some phone calls mention what you need done ask for an estimate and if they have any ideas on payment plans for you. {{{{{HUGS}}}}}
August 21, 201412 yr I would go to another dentist and see what they say, is the root canal at or near the back? I got my tooth pulled out instead of paying for root canal, just a suggestion, I still need another but it's nearer the front and don't wanna lose the tooth so will wait til I have the funds. Can you look up which dentists would let you pay in instalments or help you somehow. That dentist sounds a bit like a cowboy trying to rip you off, maybe you don't need half the amount of work done. Get steve to ring around for you, you are too sore and emotional xxx

Having a hard time on my kobo Yes, a second opinion is a great idea. I went to one dentist... Told me I needed 8 filings (I couldn't afford it, so I left it)... Went to a different dentist 8 years later... Guess what - only needed 2 fillings. So either the first dentist was full of sh*t, or my teeth magically fixed themselves over time... I'm think option number 1... I think some dentists only care about money, and not the patient... Find a better dentist sweetie, you deserve the best.

Try the dental schools if they are close by. I've heard they charge you half price, but you must have the money up front. I am with you in the dental hell, trust me. I think only one other person around the QT knows my situation, wasn't going to announce it, but if it helps you by knowing you aren't the only one then all is good. I once had great, beautiful teeth even perfectly straight and white. Don't know what happened, but it's thought that being on oral steroids a lot masked infections that could have been handled if I had known when they were cavities. Anyway, shortly after I quit, out of the blue one morning I woke up in the most agonizing pain. When I got to the dentist, he told me he might be able to save these two teeth with root canals and crowns. At that price, I might as well get 2 dental implants at $5k each, right..cause they last forever. Well, clearly I didn't have the resources for any of that. He said they needed to come out and since this wasn't my first rodeo, I would need a partial. I refused to have those 2 teeth pulled for over a year, even though I was in agonizing pain because I couldn't replace them. I've had teeth pulled before but they were in the way back and couldn't be seen even when I smiled. These teeth were tooth # 4 & 5, visible when smiling with teeth showing. I found every excuse to get prescribed antibiotics, just to keep the pain at bay, not that it always worked. Put me in a big depression, finally had them out last month. Because I left them in for so long, they had the worst time pulling them, because they were rotten. Still healing and I refuse to smile. It's going to cost almost $3K, because I need a crown and a partial. Not worried about about the partial b/c it's not noticeable, it's the money...I feel you Leanna. I wish dentists would offer payment plans, I know how you feel. I have been throwing a little money to the dentist as I can in advance, only up to $350, but I'll get there someday. Hopefully, I will be able to preserve the jaw for implants in the future when I can afford them. Leanna, I am sorry I did not mean to spill my guts on this, but I wanted you to know take care of your teeth while you can. The wedding can be postponed, if necessary. Trust me when I say, you do not want to have tooth pulled. Hugs...

I'm 27 and have already had two tooth extractions. Another tooth is chipped, but it doesn't give me problems yet and I've been avoiding it. I know I shouldn't, because the longer I wait, the worse it gets! I've spent so much time and money on trying to fix my teeth, but I don't have much luck with them staying fixed. I go a few months pain-free and happy and then something else happens... a tooth chips or I get a toothache out of nowhere. I want to go back to five years ago when my teeth were perfect. I'm so afraid that I'll lose all my teeth. I am hoping and praying one of my front teeth don't chip. I will be devastated. I found out that I do have some insurance actually. I guess when I paid for my tuition for college, I paid into an insurance plan as well. I don't know how much they cover, but anything helps! I think the dental student idea is fantastic. I know they do cleanings for half the price, so it would be beneficial for me to get some estimates from them. I'm not even sure i want this dentist to do my fillings. He prescribed me some antibiotics, so I hope that takes the pain away for a while.
