  6. your doing great @Breath-of-Powerstay mindful and embrace withdrawal. it's the sign that you are winning.
  7. congrats @Boo hope you and yours are well. stellar quit.
  8. yep. I had smoking dreams quite often. I think it's a fairly common reaction to quitting. I decided to attribute it to my brain rewiring itself to being a nonsmoker
  9. welcome @Arnolderthat's great that you here and set a quit date. Enjoy your weekend and your party.
  10. Welcome aboard @JustQuit83congrats on deciding to quit smoking. it is so worth the effort. keep us updated on your progress and get yourself a ticker. It was a great motivational tool for me.
  11. @QuittingGirlnothing really unusual about getting a strong urge. I had been quit nearly a year and a half and I got a few strong urges that seemed to last. I was even having a lot of smoking dreams and when I woke up my mouth almost tasted like I had smoked. It takes a lot of time to work through all of your triggers so just keep riding it out. Remember, we are all recovering addicts and we always will be so expect that there will be times that this happens. The good news is that you're not broken and not smoking. Congrats on keeping the quit
  12. @ammjgreat news. keep that momentum going. you're doing fantastic. stay focused on Jesus. He's here to help you.
  13. you can do it. i lost count of how many times I told myself today was the day only to be smoking again by lunch time. then one day it really was the day. just focus on right now. don't smoke now and commit to that. for me it was tough to convince myself to commit to never doing something ever again, but could commit to not doing it right now. stick with it and soon enough it won't be something you have to fight every at moment. and use this forum for a distraction. there's lots of support here
  14. hey @overcome Check out Dr. Bryan Ardis. He claims to have helped people with "long Covid" using nicotine patches. makes me wonder sometimes if the nicotine in the cigarettes might have been weaponized to addict the consumer base and just pure nicotine maybe has some medicinal properties. i'm not about to tempt that monster again however so if I get sick I'll just stick with some homemade chicken soup.
  15. Hi @chime. First of all, using patches to quit isn't a cop out. Whatever crutch you need to break the habit of lighting up is valid. Patches, gums, lozenges, etc. are viable options to actual smoking and no one will show up at your house to revoke your quitting card just because you used a legitimate tool to quit smoking. This quit I didn't use any type of NRT so I can't really speak to what type of withdrawal you may get from the patches. However, my research has led me to believe that the nicotine might not be as addictive as the other chemicals in the cigarettes such as the pyrazines so I wouldn't stress about withdrawal from the patches yet. Get yourself off the cigarettes first. You can cross that bridge with the patches when you get to it. There have been quite a few here who did use NRT to quit so I'm sure a few of them will be along soon to tell you their experience. Congratulations on 5 days smoke free. That's a huge accomplishment. Welcome aboard the train. Take a seat and hold on tight. The trip is well worth the price of the ticket.

  21. congrats @DenaliBlueshope you have a great day today
  22. sounds like you live in a little corner of paradise. Maybe I'll get a chance to visit Australia one day. The closest I ever got was watching the movie Quigley down under.
  23. @Icandothis2well hello and welcome aboard. you can do this. all you really need to do is follow the rules. If using patches or gums helps you follow those rules then by all means do whatever you feel is necessary. That being said, the quitting is simple but not easy and I don't think there is an easy way out of this. Anyway, here are the rules. Stick to them and you cannot help but to quit. Rule 1. Don't smoke Rule 2. When in doubt, refer to Rule 1.

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
