  7. I watched all of these last night and thought all 3 were really interesting. I was glued for almost three hours. I wanted to come away hating the tobacco industry but it didn't happen for me. I think there was so much other stuff I hated that my hatred for the tobacco industry got a bit diluted. I hated the night riders and was appalled at what they did I hated the Government for not putting cigarettes into a food or drug bracket so they didn't have strict monitoring, that they were happy to take 1 million a day from tobacco companies and that the president's health advisor binned Project XA which was a safer cigarette called Palladium I hated that nobody listened to the surgeons who expressed their concern at smoking and cigarettes I hated that Carter got rid of Kalifarno who based his campaign on the danger of cigarettes. Carter went on to say that people rely on tobacco companies to make a living Yes the tobacco companies supply the killer cigarettes, but the Government's clearly get so much revenue from them they don't want smoking to stop any time soon. I was shocked at the underhanded tactics some tobacco companies used but then I'm shocked about a lot of things that happened back then. It was a different era and people got away with things they would never get away with now. Maybe my thoughts mean I don't fit in to the ideals here, or maybe even that my quit is doomed for failure. I didn't come away in a rage like others have and I don't blame the tobacco companies for me smoking. I do think they should have these documentaries as part of the school curriculum. The woman who smoked through her neck would shock anyone.
  8. Is that someone's house ????

  11. I had to read that twice to make sure it definitely said minus 40 ?? We come to a complete standstill if we get an inch of snow ??? Public transport stops running, heating systems break down, supermarket shelves get emptier and you realise that winter coat you bought really isn't a winter coat. Crossing Canada off my "places I'd like to see" list.

Confession : I joined a slimming club tonight and then stopped at a fast food takeaway on the way home ??
  16. Anything that helps people quit smoking is a move in the right direction. I can only speak for myself but I googled when pictures came out on packets. It said 2001 so it took me 17 years from then to quit smoking. That is why I say the impact of warnings is ignored by most. We say this is an addiction and realistically addicts don't listen to reason, they don't care as long as they get their fix. I'm more in favour of education because as is said here regularly education is key. If you took two sets of 100 smokers and gave the first 100 people cigarettes with a warning message on, then took the second set of 100 people round a cancer ward I'm pretty sure the second group would have more immediate quitters. Even then they would forget what they saw quite quickly as the addict in them would take over. Most of us have watched our loved ones die from smoking and then chain smoked while grieving. I'm not saying either one of our views is right or wrong. I just hope more people stumble across sites like this because success somewhere like here is much higher than any warning on a cigarette packet.

Until yesterday when I clicked on the button to see all the unread posts I would click on a post and it would take me to that post. Since yesterday when I click on a post it takes me to the first post on that thread. Do you have any idea why that's started to happen? I meant to post this on the questions sub forum ?
