  1. Eeekkk! For Doreen’s eyes only! Don’t look MarylandQuitter! Keep scrolling... nothing to see here.
  2. Thanks MarylandQuitter- it is good to read another’s perspective and experience with eliminating sugar. Congratulations to you!! Like you, I don’t plan on sustaining this strict control forever- I think it is needed to reset my body, get those cravings for sugar & starchy carbohydrates under control.
  3. I never used weight gain as an excuse to not quit smoking. I figured I would gain around 10lbs. Ha! Hahahahahahahaha!!! More like 30lbs. It is unbelievable! Things started hurting~ like my ankles and knees. My clothes no longer fit. Knowing this~ would I still quit? You bet!! I’m fat not stupid. About 2 months ago I started taking a water aerobics class 3 times a week. Each class is about an hour. I figure, do something easy on my joints until some weight comes off - then back to walking or hiking! Oh how I miss hiking! No weight has really come off from that but I do notice my arms and legs are more toned. This week I decided to really modify my diet. Quit sugar. Dang this is tough. Safe to say my body is going through withdrawal. My coffee tastes gross without some sugar in it. Stevia- yuck! For now, it is better than black coffee. I keep thinking about my Quit. This final quit I did it cold turkey. It sucked in the beginning but I made it through. I stayed busy, I read & posted at another forum quite often. Apparently, I ate a ton. For newbies, lurkers - continue with your most precious quit. It is #1 priority. Protect it at all cost. If that means eating a bag of potato chips and drinking a Coke- ok! Once you are comfortable in your quit, address the weight gain, if any. i was comfortable in my quit around the 1 year mark. I continued to overeat. Not to combat a craving or trigger. I just ate. Maybe to fill a void? To bring me pleasure during a sad/stressful part of life. Who knows... This week I changed my eating completely. It is another way to take control and live the healthier life I desire. I may jiggle when I wiggle but I don’t smoke. Hallelujah!!!
  4. One month is a BIG deal!! Congratulations lml & keep up the good work!
  5. Jillar the Pillar!!!! Look at you rocking your quit - heading on up to Lido 2. I’m so proud of you & so glad to have walked beside you in the early days - and now. You’ve always been a great support to so many in the past and today. Crack open a cold Coors Light, get that pineapple pizza concoction & have a super fantastic day! Woo-hoo !!????

Unchartered territory. No oars, motor, navi, or map. Howdy!!! Still not sure whether or not this content will be read. How did you quit smoking? Was it planned or on a whim? Mine was both. I planned, quit, then failed,. Tried again and again. Until I finally quit. Just quit. Decided that was that, read Carr's book again (yep, first time failed), found a supportive forum. I quit. Quit. Done. Next. Moving on. I did not binge prior to my final quit. I have binged before. The mentality being -"I'm going to smoke and drink until I'm so sick I'll never want to do this again!" So, after 18+ months, I am thankfully labeled a non-smoker. ex-smoker, PERSON THAT DOES NOT SMOKE! I don't smoke. I eat. And ate. A lot. I ate too much over the course of 18 months. This evening I binged. On food. And drink. I re-read the books. A different quit starts tomorrow. I binged today knowing I would not tomorrow. This weight must come off & it will. I quit smoking. I can do anything. And I will.

  20. Hi devo! Glad to see you found QT & your quit is intact!
  21. lml - reading some of the writings of my fellow quitters is what got me through some terrible days early in my quit. Heck, even after climbing onto Lido, I went back and read the old post about the climb or the rope (?) something like that. Read and post here often. I am confident it will help you as it has helped so many of us!
  22. Congratulations Kermit!
  23. Welcome aboard & congratulations PeaceTrain!
