The perplexing pull to the tobacco shop
That's the way you build your permanent quit GITW!! Having established a base quit but then learning to be ever vigilant and not being fooled into that famous nicodemon lie .... "You can have just one. Who'll know? You can do it then just go back to your quit!" It's a lot easier to say no now than to have to face the whole withdrawal process again. That Nicodemon bastard is tricky though.

I too have recently been "tested" in terms of heightened anxiety, stress and well .... you name it. Thinking back on these past few days I can honestly say, smoking would not have changed a thing or made me feel any better about anything. In fact, quit the opposite I expect. Glad I didn't find out 1st hand!!

There is this one...
Your quit is still young lml. You will get there as all of us do who ride this beast no matter what it throws at us. We are all addicts and always will be. The difference is that we can all learn to deny that addiction and it does get easier and easier to do that the longer we refuse to allow the addiction to rule our lives. Fight the good fight. Don't expect too much too soon. It comes much more slowly than we would like but, the important thing is that it does come to all of us that persevere - that I promise you!

Hello !
Don't envy your struggles to stay quit permanently Matty. I hope you manage to first of all stick around here and participate long enough to re-build a solid quit as well as find whatever it is that has been missing so far in order to not have to go through this process endlessly. You deserve better than that for yourself

c9jane29 IS ON THE LIDO DECK - 1 year smoke free today
Sorry I missed your BIG DAY Jane ? I think I have No Man's Land Palsy
By numbers I may be an old pharte but I have never felt that I have really come that far so don't be dismayed because it does get better all the time; even though our addiction kicks us in the teeth every once and a while even after some time has passed. The good news is that most every day is no longer laced with thoughts of smoking or urges to go back to that lifestyle. Any thoughts of smoking become so much easier to dismiss. The more we invest in this quitting thing, the more we have to lose should we falter so the choice becomes easy and crystal clear with time. Just NOPE every day, even if it;s just inside your head.

Welcome to the quit train Mike I have also found a recent rough patch due to just life sh*t! We get by that stuff if we really want to and certainly doing that is much better and easier than starting over again. I'm going to do what I need to in order to stay quit. You are welcome to join me if you like?

3 days...nicotine mostly gone
^^^^ Wise words these! People who come here for support themselves often don't realize how they end up supporting others even in their early days. Once you have realized that your initial fears about quitting were unfounded and you begin to embrace the process, it becomes so much easier to achieve your goal. You are well on your way already L

Decided not to go buy another pack.
