  6. Congratulations on your quit @Roark ! and welcome to our merry band of quitters. The sooner you acknowledge and distract yourself from smokey thought, the easier it gets. It takes effort, no doubt ! I chose to replace smokey thought with something of beauty. Like, looking at that light on that leaf or listening to a piece of music or revisiting a special memory. Taking serious mindful breaths (with @jillar's air cigarette !) The 'move a muscle change a thought' adage is also very useful and helps to switch up smokey thoughts. Also, something our friend, @Sirius, said really stuck with me, "The next time a craving plunks down on your face ask yourself, "What price you are willing to pay to own yourself?" You also need to reward yourself which helps to re-wire your brain. The Significance of Rewards

  12. I am so happy you are noticing such benefits quickly, mighty one. The gifts will continue. Oxygen became my favorite new drug ! I practice all sorts of breathing techniques now, the thrill of oxygen is still thrilling. How could I have been so careless with this, I often ask myself.
  13. I am so happy for you and may the benefits of quitting smoking continue, Boo. Quitting smoking was the catalyst for change that set off a chain of events that transformed me, too. Well, not Every facet of my life... Quitting smoking didn't transform my marital status for which I am ever gratefully single. lol. But, the changes have been quantum none-the-less and the thing is now, I know how to change. I have the skills to identify where change is needed and the skills to facilitate change, I also gained the trust in myself and self-confidence to meet these challenges. I love seeing this in other quitters, too. It is remarkable to witness.

  16. Here is new follow up video on the subject. No matter how much or for how long you smoked, the physical withdrawal peaks within 72 hours. Then, the psychological work begins.
  17. maybe switch to peppermints ? Here is what I found from The British Heart Foundation "Could eating liquorice affect my blood pressure? BHF dietitian Victoria Taylor says: Black liquorice is one of those ‘love it or hate it’ foods. It’s available as soft and hard sweets, and liquorice root is found in some herbal teas, including chai and spice infusions and so-called detox teas. Liquorice sweets that come dusted (or even crusted) in salt are obviously not the best choice for your heart, but it’s generally safe to eat a small amount of liquorice every now and then. However, large and even moderate amounts of black liquorice (57g or around 2oz) can have negative physical effects when eaten daily, especially if you are aged over 40 and have a history of cardiovascular disease or high blood pressure. Large amounts of liquorice can have negative effects when eaten daily The adverse effects are due to glycyrrhizin, a compound found in liquorice root that is between 30 and 50 times sweeter than sugar and can alter your body’s levels of potassium and sodium, which help regulate body fluid. Too much glycyrrhizin can therefore lead to problems such as raised blood pressure, fluid retention, muscle weakness and heart rhythm abnormalities(arrhythmia). The good news is that if liquorice has this effect on you, the changes are not normally permanent. Stop consuming liquorice and your levels of sodium, potassium and fluid should return to normal. However, if you have experienced any symptoms that may be triggered by liquorice, it’s important to let your doctor know, so he or she can make sure there is no other possible cause."

  20. Now, you start to confront all your triggers. Your brain's reward system has been gangstered by nicotine and you will resume control one nicotinic acetylcholine receptor at a time. How Nicotine Works (there are a bunch of good videos embedded in this thread) Your Brain Beating A Crave and The Significance of Rewards (it is very important to reward yourself for every crave conquered ! ) This quitting smoking business is a journey with unexpected rewards and delights. As you learn and understand about nicotine addiction, you will have the tools you need to succeed. Congratulations @mightyboosh, you quit smoking ! It is great to see your NOPE !
  21. Dear, @MarylandQuitter and @Rixcz, Thank you for your work. Where are the blogs that used to be on the right hand side of the front page ? It used to be Topics, Blogs, Upcoming Events and Recent Status Updates. Now Blogs is missing. Bad because some new members were currently utilizing the Blog section and it was easy to spot new entries there. Thank you for your time. S This is the weirdest thing ! This is the second time this has happened. The blogs disappear for me and then re-appear when I sign in again. Poltergeist ? Sorry to bother y'all. OK, this just happened again. Signed in, I see blogs on right. Sign out, I see blogs on right. Sign in again. No blogs on right. It is a weird random glitch, isn't happening now 8/26

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
