Gotta stop smoking

Welcome, Bonnie. I am sorry to hear about your Mom.   I'm sure you are scared, but you can do this.  Just make up your mind that there is no circumstance in which it is okay to smoke.  It is okay to cry, scream, rant, rave, sing at the top of your lungs, run till you drop...anything but smoke.  There is a lot of great information here to help you along, and a lot of great quitters to cheer you on.  Quitting can be difficult, miserable even, but it will not kill you.  Many of us smoked for 40 years or more, and if we can quit, you can, too!!

Bonnie,

Fear of the long-term health consequences of smoking has been the springboard for many successful quits.  Understandably so.  However, the benefits of quitting begin immediately.  The body begins to heal itself within the first 72 hours.  You will begin to feel more relaxed in time as you are no longer planning your every waking hour around getting your nicotine fix.  The sense of physical well-being and psychological relaxation will serve you well in every aspect of your life.

There are great informational resources available here.  Read some of the articles and watch some of the videos.  Education about the addiction demystifies the cigarette and shatters the myths and lies we told ourselves as addicts.

Congratulations on deciding to take back your life and freedom.  You've made one of the best decisions of your life to quit smoking.

Welcome aboard Bonnie... Taking your life back from this awful killer addiction is the most rewarding feeling ...

There is so much information here..so many videos...that cover all the concerns you may have...

Knowledge will be your weapon to fight the nicotine monster...

We have a daily NOPE thread..it's a promise to yourself ,you won't smoke just for that day

One day at a time...this is how its done...you can do it...

Looking forward to getting to know you better....

Welcome Bonnie, Good for you for taking that first step.  Read and do research on this forum it will be of great help.  Also remember the NOPE pledge, it really does get you through the day to make that commitment for 1 day to yourself.  And remember we are all here to help you along the way, everyone here has given me that help.

 Yeah ya do..

Is your mom a smoker?

Anyways, if you quit now then you are less likely to have anything like that.

Welcome Bonnie.  Yes, you do need to stop, and you CAN!  Many of us smoked for decades.  Quitting is doable.  You're already nearing one full day quit......congratulations.
