Hi

I'm ISH.  those are my initials and what I go by mostly.

i'm trying to get a handle on this quit smoking thing.  I' smoked all my life but my newest lady dosen't like it and i thought I could stop easy for her.  not so easy.

i'm on the road a lot and thats when i miss it.  home with her isnt' so bad since she makes me go out to smoke and gives me grief about smlling.  but when i'm driving thats my copanion and i don't have to worry about making her mad.

so now i've been three days without... when will i not want to smoke anymore?  I been watching the videos over and over and hope they sink in one of these days.

Welcome ISH!

First congratulations on three days free! That is quite an accomplishment even though you may not feel like it is right now.

Second quitting is a process there is no accurate time frame on when you will get past the craves but trust me it does pass and it is worth it.

Get yourself a 'toolbox' together cranberry juice, water, pretzels, twizzlers, snacks. There are many threads and videos here that I would recommend the first is in the SOS section and it is titled "Pre-respond to your own SOS". Make a post to yourself.

Also stay close to the board, if you feel like you are going to smoke then post an SOS we are here to help and posting an SOS has saved peoples quit!

Welcome aboard ISH.

That's great that you want to quit for your lady, but you have to quit for yourself.  Take full ownership of the quit and commit to it fully.  Quitting will be one of the best things you've ever done for yourself.

"When will I not want to smoke anymore?"  It may happen tomorrow or it may be months.  Only way to find out is to stay the course and find your way.  Wanting to smoke is a natural part of the process.  Resisting the urge to smoke is where the rubber meets the road.  A craving is a mere suggestion.  It is entirely within your power not to smoke.  Cravings pass, lessen with time, and eventually are of no consequence.

Remember NOPE (Not One Puff Ever) and commit to that.  You're on your way to freedom, enjoy the ride.

Hi ish! I saw you posting in the Nope thread yesterday and today. Keep doing that each and every day. It's important to commit to yourself every day that you will not take another puff from a cigarette - ever. There are so many benefits when you really commit to quitting and there are no good reasons to continue to smoke. Smoking is just an endless loop of feeding your addiction to nicotine and serves no other purpose for you.

The craving or urge to smoke will be with you for a while just because smoking is ingrained into almost everything you do daily. Only takes a few days for nicotine to be out of your body but it takes longer to reprogram your mind to not look to smoking as a stress reliever, a reward system for good and bad events in your life. The process is unfortunately slower than we would all like but I promise you it does happen for everyone providing you do not smoke. That's the key to it all - just don't smoke. It takes guts and will power to quit but it is totally possible. As Boo said, you need to do this for yourself though, not someone else.

hello boo.  thanks for your note and advise, and for the welcome to me.  my cigarettes are my companon on long times alone, i'm not sure how to deal with that when I travel.  its' bad when at home my heart starts to pound but with the gf I know I can't get away with it without aruging.

I am going to have to work on doing it for myself... i really enjoy my smokes when i'm along.  I been doing the n.o.p.e. on and offf, but some days it jus t won't stick or stop me from grabbing a smoke.  So far 3 days is my tops.  I wonder if gums or something would work?

Hi ish..really good to see you posting..

Well I guessed you were a lady...so mmmm...I was wrong..

Take time to read Allen Carr The Easy Way if you havnt already done so..this book has helped millions, and alot of us too.

You can read it free on line..

You can do it..trust me.if I did ..anyone can.

Take smoking off the table..no matter what..even if your arse falls off..

Keep reading ..knowledge will be your weapon go beat this monster..

Post often..NOPE everyday...but stay clear of the chicks and sticks game..it's not good for your health lol.

Looking forward to travelling with you on your journey

Note..your new gal will love not having to kiss a smelly ashtray

Hey ish

The tool kit is a euphemism that we use that means to get all sorts of comfort snacks, drinks, and deterrents together and at the ready for you to use when a crave sets in. A crave normally lasts around 3 minutes so if you are chomping on a pretzel or putting gum in your mouth you are helping to get yourself through it. :)

Cranberry juice helps to flush the toxins out of your body as does water.

Welcome ish

Don't forget the most important tool! Your mindset. Remember when you're uncomfortable that it's part of the healing process. And the key to everything is NOPE. Glad you've found your way here.

NOPE works longer than three days....try four this time and check back for more instructions. I will keep it simple each day.

my cigarettes are my companon on long times alone, i'm not sure how to deal with that when I travel.  its' bad when at home my heart starts to pound but with the gf I know I can't get away with it without aruging.

As smokers, we conditioned ourselves to smoke in response to so many situations.  When you quit, your old tried-and-tested comfort zone is eliminated.  It feels weird at first; the head is foggy and the thinking gets muddled.  With time and repetition, the new way becomes the new normal.  You are reprogramming your brain and creating new neural pathways with each and every NOPE.

Everything you're feeling right now is perfectly normal for someone in the first week of a quit.  Stick with the process and you will sort it out in time.  After that, just breathe in the smokeless air and enjoy the freedom.

Onward and upward ISH.
