May 4, 20179 yr You got a warning? I got selfies sent to me...... :P :D   :music: :girl_pinkglassesf:
May 4, 20179 yr One of the selfies had a pair of fuzzy dice hanging on a rear view mirror in the back ground....... makes you go..... Hmmmmmmmmmm ??????? :D :D   :music: :girl_pinkglassesf:
May 4, 20179 yr I just want to say thanks for letting the sudden onslaught of people hop aboard your lifeboat. Most of us don't want to rock the boat and you may find that a few even want to pick up an oar. Thanks again!
May 5, 20179 yr We aim to please & accommodate in times of need. I'm sure y'all would do the same, were our positions reversed. You guys are making this place rock too so it's a bonus for us as well. Glad to have ya :)
May 5, 20179 yr Please don't get me wrong to the new arrivals.... my gripe was never with any of the members at qsmb The owner/s of qsmb did not know how to manage the site or fix basic technical issues.... they put paid admins in who did not allow free speech.... locked threads and even deleted whole threads and edited member posts.... they got it always wrong and couldn't tell the difference between a real troll or someone just having a hard quit time Many quitters suffer from mental health issues just like myself.... in fact statistics show that those with mental health issues are more likely to be addicted to smoking and have extra baggage to deal with at the same time as their quit.... I feel welcome here They banned people on rumor and frivolous complaints.... leaving many members in the cold without their support network and quit buddies So now I am to believe that these owners and paid admins have abandoned the support site.... Just wow....... Rest assured that this will not happen here.... I don't participate much here as I am busy with living and a smoke free life.... It is reassuring to know I have a place to come to if I need support and not be judged Welcome new members and hope you stay come and go as you please.... you will never have your rights to free speech taken away from you here.... Just respect each other and different views or personalities.... let admin handle trolls and spam.... we are part of a bigger quit smoking community.... together we win against tobacco.... Thank you to the owner admins moderators and other members
May 5, 20179 yr I. for one. am glad that the site is back up and running. A lot of people rely on it as many do here too....and that's what is most important. QSMB is still having problems. The people that never logged out of it can still get in. Anyone who was logged off when the problems started can not get in. I also read that the new owners are unable to log in to the site. The software vendor is trying to resolve the problems.

Glad to have ya :) QSMB got a whole bunch of new members from QuitNet when they decided to do a major overhaul to their site. I think that was in 2015. It worked out fine. I thought that the new members brought a lot of interesting perspectives with them.
May 5, 20179 yr QSMB is like an asshole. It is needed but has a bad smell. Smell of censorship and that isn't tolerated here PS you can swear here!
May 5, 20179 yr QSMB has its good points and bad points. I have been there for almost 2 1/2 years. Sometimes there is a lot of drama. I know there was a lot more drama when some of you folks were there. I have seen the older posts. The padlocks were thrown on threads like crazy! lol These days, things are a little more laid back but there is still snarkiness toward some members. It seems like some people can get away with almost anything and others must mind their p's and q's. I don't like seeing that. But...on the other hand, if it were not for QSMB, I don't think that I would have been able to overcome this horrible addiction. The one thing that is really bothering me right now is the fact that the site was abandoned without regard for the quitters, especially the newer quitters!!!
May 5, 20179 yr A lot or maybe even most of these people who have come over here due to the "issue" know nothing else other than their home board and have formed hugely important relationships with people on that board so I can understand them being disoriented and a little uncomfortable here. If you choose to leave a place because of something that has happened to you or something you have observed that you don't like, that's one thing but when you are forced to leave a place by something you have no control over, that's a whole different kettle of fish :( I am empathetic for their situation and want to make them feel as at home as I can. It would be devastating if any of these people lost their quit because of all this disruption. The people with early quits in particular are battling enough anxiety and don't need any extra stress to deal with, Hoping they can all keep it together :)
May 5, 20179 yr Well said R! I couldn't agree more. I am just so happy they can keep it together during this time when they need each other most.
May 5, 20179 yr Most of us don't want to rock the boat and you may find that a few even want to pick up an oar. Thanks again! We can always use another bartender or DJ on the Lido Deck....if that's your kind a thing.
May 5, 20179 yr My two penneth...or cents..whatever..Give me that soap box a minute.. I crawled into the Q board..so desperate..I had to quit..I was about to have my feet chopped off.. And taking care of a hubby with emphysema This addiction...it kills it ..it takes limbs..it leaves some fighting for breath for years, needing full time care.. Support to kick this dam thing..that's what is needed..a place you can come and know someone will help..with whatever is bothering you that day..and every day..till you find that freedom every smoker would love to find.. I found a few close friends there..who I love dearly..who got me through the very early days... This is very important to a scared newbie..who is lost and is desperate ... To shut down a site with no notice and no consideration for the folks that rely on it..depend on it..is crapola... Ok..someone help me down .....
May 5, 20179 yr You're the best Doreen  I'm sure glad you found what you needed at that time and I'm glad I found you guys here at Quit Train when I was "lost and desperate"!! I'm also happy we could be here to welcome these people who decided to join us for the support they need, Now, watch your step getting down off that soapbox :P
May 5, 20179 yr That site saved my life early doors, I'm fairly certain of it so I wish her all good things. I just can't be shut down and swear too much so here was simply a better fit for for me, I did pop back over during the 1st year though and made some beautiful connections. The early days of quitting and the support were a godsend and I am forever greatful for both sites.
May 5, 20179 yr Hey Marti - nice to see you again. Now get on over to the cursing thread and show 'em how it's done
May 7, 20179 yr It's hugely ironic to me that once I got in some kind of trouble with snarkiness and hints of possibly more by commenting that I couldn't search to find some of my favourite posts by a person called Sarge because he was banned over there as well as just posting a link to another post of someone else who was also banned... It's good to have more than one forum for quitters to go. I don't believe in the long term coupling a for profit motive with a free quit smoking forum is sustainable so am glad to see that is not the case here.
May 7, 20179 yr yesterday was a massive trigger day. Today is better. Progress on my project is slow but steady... Keeping busy so am triggering much less today. I have felt threatened in a major way day-by-day drip, drip and then not having any ability to load a page after being warned several times about being banned, yeah really and finally decided to act decisively so that is good. I feel really good about this.
May 9, 20179 yr Author Sarge is a windowlicker and still here Sarge particularly likes the Rainbow Of Flavors in licking stained glass. Easy Peasy
May 11, 20179 yr so anyway, hints are appreciated on copyright law. i heard a whisper that I could ask Sarge a question... he might know the answer, but does an individual always own, universally, no matter what (at least in US and Canadian Law), the right to republish their own material that they individually posted on an online forum. Is that an absolute right? a second question is what is sufficient notice of copyright. does there have to be a copyright symbol on every page...?

A copyright symbol IS NOT required. (It used to be, but the laws in the US changed (1980s ??)) You *automatically* have copyright when you create the work ... but those rights may or may not be transferred/lost when posting on an internet forum. Depends on what was agreed to under the Terms and Conditions of said forum. No. It is not an "absolute right". You may have given up that right when clicking the "I agree" button when signing up. Sarge is not a lawyer, has never played one on TV, and did not stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night. Retain a Lawyer if you want real advice. Easy Peasy.

Thanks Sarge for your answer. I have not been able to locate a terms of service or terms and conditions for this site... does it exist? copyright law is very complicated sometimes and if a private individual hired a lawyer to answer all their questions they could easily go bankrupt... i mean there are things like 'fair use' as well. Also when a TOS says you cannot copy another user's content that is explicitly violated in the quote function so forum posts and other online items are not always viewed under strict copyright as that would impede the free flow of information. Basically one needs not only a lawyer but also case law to know but there is very little of that...
May 11, 20179 yr It's a bit ridiculous to quote your own posts. There is remarkably little clear information on the internet regarding the landscape of copyright in forums, in particular at a level a forum user could understand. I have not been able to find a TOS or TOC for this website. Please do advise me if one exists. Most copyright law is written in gobbly gook but creative commons has simple plain english copyrights. Here is the global copyright for all of otm and other's work who choose to use it. I am still not even entirely sure of the ramifications of what i am doing, but there are worse alternatives.. like being dead for instance. so anyway Sarge particularly likes the Rainbow Of Flavors in licking stained glass.Easy Peasy Indeed CREATIVE COMMONS LIC Quit Smoking and Cancer by quitsmokingsupportcommunity (qssc) is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International License. so anyway, hints are appreciated on copyright law. i heard a whisper that I could ask Sarge a question... he might know the answer, but does an individual always own, universally, no matter what (at least in US and Canadian Law), the right to republish their own material that they individually posted on an online forum. May 11, 20179 yr Author I myself had the wrong idea that i always owned the copyright to what i wrote and Sarge wrote back that any idiot is actually allowed to sign it away. John Fogerty of Creedence Clearwater Revival got sued for plagiarising ... *himself* http://mentalfloss.com/article/27501/time-john-fogerty-was-sued-ripping-john-fogerty Sarge's opinion is "F_ck it - sue me, if you must, but I'm doin' this anyway ..." He's never been sued for it. It's just not the sort of thing to worry about. Vanishingly small odds. Easy Peasy
