Just Sticking With The Social Side

Featured Replies

I think we all have our area where we feel most comfortable and I can totally admit that I have never felt overly comfortable posting and trying to advise folk on the general. Maybe it's because my quit was an ecig quit? Who knows..but I know I'm going to just stick to where I feel comfortable.

I understand that folk come here to stop smoking and there are plenty of articulate members here who are fabulous at that side. The other side of it, socially, is more my thing and the social boards are great distraction for folk too.

I only wrote this as I would hate folk to think I only come here to be social and am not really helping, that's not the case as I can get all the social I want on my Facebook page. So...I know I don't have to explain myself as I'm only answerable to myself but just thought it good manners to mention why I've gone from rent a gob on the main to a mute.

Will obviously still be keeping up to speed on the main board...goes without saying

Sharon, I have seen more than one person post that the MOST helpful part of this site for them is the social side. The social threads provide  quitters with distraction through their craves, much-needed laughs 24/7 and a sense of camaraderie and connectedness that is hard to achieve on the more serious "advice" threads. I'm delighted that you enjoy "paying it forward" via the social side of things. Thank you!

I pretty much stay on the social side as well :)

I expect to see all of you on the chicks and sticks game

I'll very likely be in the TV, food and cosmetics...crap at games but can see how others love it.

Sharon sweetheart you are here and that is what matters, xxx

I liked it even though I didn't understand last part about gobs

Lol..oh yes, Island speak and gobs, or trap...another word for mouth.

Examples...

Shut yer gob/ trap!

Have you heard the gob/trap on her/him!

You're in the know now Bakon xx ;)

The social side gets a bad rap sometimes when in fact it's really a very big part of the quit.  Mixing equal amounts of fun into something as serious as quitting smoking is a recipe for success because no one could bear it if it was all heavy all the time.  We are blessed here to have folks spending time paying it forward.  How you choose to do that is just as important as how anyone else does it.

The social side saved my quit many a times. ;) As long as you are here Sharon :)

Well I for one am pleased you're here at all Sharon, plus I love seeing what you cook. Welcome to add me on facebook too, Martine Baxter-Parsons (only one of them on there haha).

I agree with what the others have said, my quit was repetedly reinforced with the social side. It's a brilliant pay it forwards tool to have you there. xx

Thanks Marti...and I'll go and find you on FB. I have opened a FB Sharon's Cosemtic Chit Chat page too, over the weekend...so I'll invite you. Although if it's not your thing I totally understand...off to find you xx

Sharon, you know how much I love your posts. If it weren't for the social threads, I probably wouldn't be here. I deal with stress through laughter; it's my coping mechanism. I need to laugh and smile to help control my anxiety. That's why I tend to post more on the social boards.

I'm very glad to have met you Leanne and we can chit chat away, till our hearts content.

Good move finding an outlet to distract from any anxiety..thumbs up....I find it gives me a sense of purpose other than being chief cook and bottle washer...
