Featured Replies

Come stay with me this week. You can watch chemo in action and I can step on your throat whenever you light up.

Your not occasional if it's even once a day. Your torturing yourself at constant withdrawal and waiting out to the fix long periods.

I smoked one a day for three months one time and still never quit.

Hi rowly....

Go back to basic,s......read all you can.....educate yourself.......

You can do this....you know you can.....just jump in with both feet.....

Keep coming here and post......we will guide you through it......

Believe in yourself.......if you believe you can....you will.

Hugs

Doreen

Allen Carr did write a follow up to EasyWay, called OnlyWay. Worth a try?

I read it! I used his first book (The Easy Way...) to quit smoking. But several months after I bought The Only Way in order to reinforce my decision and in order to learn as much as possible to avoid starting again. IMHO it's worth. Maybe it's not an indispensable book as I think that the first one is enough but it's worth to reinforce or even to just knowing more. The Only Way is very long and the basic concepts are identical to the first book (as expected, I guess) but the anecdotes are written with much more detail, there are tens of new ones and it immerse deeper and deeper on every aspect thinkable of the nicotine addition. As it's been a long time since I read it I barely remember details, except a few, but I remember that it hooked even more my irrevocable decision.

Awh Rowly come on, your life is worth soo much more than what you are giving it, please stop cutting your life short, cigarettes kill what more do you need, are you waiting til you get a terminal illness and then you will quit, throw your cancer sticks away now while you have a choice please x

Hey Rowly - sorry to read this - but you can do this and you know we will support you along the way ! So let us know how you are going ?

The update is nova good one. The reason I haven't posted is because I have been smoking occasionally. I don't know what to do. I don't know how to stay stopped.

It's not but checking in and updating us is good.  You know how to stay quit and it's to live by NOPE.

What was going on when you decided to relapse?  Was it stress?  A craving?  Remember, relapses are always planned ahead of time.

You were going so well and it was working.  I would suggest that you start back to doing the same exact thing.  Make a new thread about your quit, check in as often as you can and update your thread.  Read, read and then read some more.  Quit Train Blog has tons of stuff, some historical and some present day about big tobacco.  Very interesting if you're at all interested in that stuff.

Don't give up now.  Like Tracey said, make that list.  What were you feeling leading up to the relapse?  How did you feel when you lit that first cigarette?  How do you feel right now?

You're still believing the lies of smoking.

Ok, heres my update. I was feeling angry when i smoked every time.... I know the dangers of smoking, scare tactics dont work bakon. It didnt help me stop when I was holding my mothers hand when she took her last breath (she died from cancer), she had cancer from smoking. And scare tactics are not going to work now.....

Thanks for all the posts, I have just put out the last cigarette.

Rowly, you can do this...quit going through this over and over...make this one your forever quit.  I'm proud  of you for staying here and not giving up.

what will work? ask yourself if need be..

what do you need to quit,

what is the hold up or thing that causes you not to believe you can

or is pushing you towards it,

smoking work place, boredom,

lack of what?

Carry a tank of o2 around for a day maybe? not to scare you but to see how its going to match your wardrobe later.

Or carry a dog turd around...see how bad it smells

Or eat plain food for week, cant taste anyways when smoking

lots of other reasons to quit besides cancer...

Rowlyd you know something very important about your addiction, it resides in the same emotional part of your brain as anger. Rather than let that part of your brain decide to smoke, you need to have the rational part of your brain make the decision not to. Make sure the rational part has the final say. Don't allow yourself to make any more quick decisions about smoking. When your brain says, "Let's go get a cigarette" you have to say to yourself, "I'm going to calm down and think about it first."

Good for you rowly........

Think about what made you join here to start with.....you had a reason.......

Whatever that reason was.....it's still the same......

We are all here to support you.....

Come here and vent, scream ,shout,be angry.....

Just don't smoke

hi rowly - i can relate to angry

angry at ourselves, at addictions at the fact smoking makes us ill the fact that we know deep down that we have to quit - and on top of all that

life makes us angry for whatever reasons and boom

now you have identified it - you can move forward a step at a time

have you seen the curse it thread?? where you can let rip and not be polite - because we need to vent and to say "oh darn that just sucks" - sometimes just do not cut it!!

you know that annoying little monkey on your back - thats me - hi I am Tracey and I am an nicotine addict pleased to meet you :)

lets do this......

Allen Carr's book never mentions the dangers of smoking because we already know the risks and it never stopped us from smoking.

When we want to quit more than we want to smoke, we quit.  Until then it's just torture because part of us wants to quit but we're still believing the lies of the addiction.  You're still here and this is the best place you can be right now whether you're smoking or not.  There are no strings attached to membership here and being a non-smoker has never been nor will ever be a requirement.

Anger got me every time I relapsed.  I totally get where you're coming from but as you know, smoking doesn't really do anything to help and only adds to the stress.

Don't ever stop quitting because the next one you put out could very well be your last.

Hey Rowly - glad you made the decision to restart your quit ... I personally think it is time to move on and celebrate that decision - so why don't you sTart another thread and keep us up with how you are going ??

Good man Rowly, well done for quitting, you can do this and you will, I believe in you xx

  • 4 weeks later...

Quitting sucks, Rowly.  But smoking sucks more.  I'm so sorry.  :(  I relapsed and returned to NOT smoking.  You can do it too.  We are addicts and will always will be, but we can live without smoking.  Stay with us Rowly.  oK.. one day at a time.  We can stay smoke free.  Let's do it together!

If scare tactics will not work....what will?  What will make you keep your quit???

You smoke because you are angry... WTF does smoking do when you are angry to help???  Makes the situation worse cause now you have failed yourself in your quit.

Why are you putting yourself through this.  DON'T SMOKE.... it really is that easy peasy.  Make a plan for what you are going to do next time you are angry and make sure smoking is not an option.  Put your big boy pants on and quit f*cking around!!!   Try some deep breathing excercises...it works.

Come on Rowly... push through this and get to your new life...it is soooooooooooooooo worth it.

i know if i were to smoke now....i would be VERY ANGRY

smoking is not the answer.....it never was
