My oldest niece is eighteen years-old.  She lost practically her entire senior year of high school and now her freshman year of college is in limbo.  This is a big time in her life and she is experiencing something like we've never known before.  Damn shame, she's a really good kid.

 

Maddie is only five weeks old, so me and the better-half have time to figure some things out.  We are exploring every option, including home schooling.  We probably won't know the full effect this lockdown experiment has had on children for quite some time now, but I suspect we're not going to like what we find out.

Now, a new study has warned that another factor can increase your risk - your height.

Researchers from the University of Manchester have revealed that people who are over 6ft tall are twice as likely to catch the virus.

In the study, the researchers surveyed 2,000 people in the UK and US to understand the personal and work-related predictors of virus transmission.

The results revealed that aerosol transmission of Covid-19 is very likely, with taller people at highest risk - something that wouldn’t be the case if the virus was exclusively spread through droplets.

Well the inevitable has happened. Two young ladies returning to QLD from a know hot spot lied on thier declarations. Yep both have covid19 Now 8 days from thier return the hunt is on to hunt down and check all thier contacts. One was a cleaner in a school and they both went to shopping centres and restaurants in various suburbs. 

Youth and making bad decisions should never be a crime. Cricky I’d was guilty as I grew up.

But it brings up how dependant we are on everyone to do the right thing!

724 yesterday Doreen....it's breaking my heart and I am so frickin angry. So a large portion of those are people in nursing homes 😢🤬. ...why because staff who work at 5 different homes are still going to work with a positive result..... yesterday there were 8 people who when the cops knocked on there doors to make sure they were isoing cos they had a positive result weren't home because they were at work. For Farks Sake!!!!!!!......the government is paying them to stay home!!!!!!.....then there were more not even home who knows where they are. I am just so angry. My area has the 2nd highest case numbers....now Melbourne is split by a river, the Yarra, the highest cases numbers are West of the yarra...which is the blue collar, working class side...also has a very multicultural demographic. We have 3 hospitals with icu facilities, 1 in an area outside the restriction zone so we can't go there....east of the yarra tends to be a bit better off...and there are 16 hospitals with icu...I'm just getting so angry....and racist....I consider myself fairly left leaning and bleeding heart lib BUT if even I am getting angry at specific groups you can imagine the anger and simmering from the big and the right....i feel like I'm on a social powder keg that's about to blow.

 

Kind of a bit fed up with going to work for 8 hours a day with people i hate then going home to a house I can't leave with people I hate....im just stuck with them...all the frickin time....there is no escaping the arseholes.

Oi enough of that.....like you mob even understand the game....considering my beloved Saintas are lookin the money and my membership is languishing in my wallet that's just kicking a dog when she's down....actually I know it's kinda petty and insignificant consconsidering Co-Vic ...but as a proud Vic the loss of our game, our comp, is gutting me....once in over 120 years has the granny been played off the G and that was only cos we needed to drop a new surface for the Ashes...never, ever has it been played outside Vic....just remember you got it on loan...it's our frickin game, we invented it, you mob just realised how awesome it was an musseled in..it'll be coming home to stay...if the frucktards don't kill us all first.

Just downloaded the new Covid Alert App to my phone. This is an App recently developed here that will allow phones to exchange encrypted codes with each other every 5 mins. when you are within a certain distance of another phone with the same App. The idea is that if someone tests positive for the virus, they are given a code to enter into the App on their phone and all other people who they have been within 2 meters (6 feet) of that phone and who also have the App will be alerted to the fact they have been exposed to a virus carrier. 

 

It's not a solution to anything but it does allow notification so you can at least get tested should you have been exposed. Of course it relies on everyone with a smart phone downloading the app as well as anyone testing positive entering their code to the app. It will at least allow technology to help with contact tracing, which is important.

Here in America we've shut the country down because 0.0004% of the population is reported to have died of Covid-19.

 

The normal we knew in 2019 is never coming back.

I think shutting down was really more about protecting the health system...we just don't have the facilities to cope with the cases if we just gave this free reign at the population?

I still travel through the heart of downtown Melbourne every work day...and I cry...because 1 in 5 businesses is gone. Closed, gutted, vacant. 

Then I think of my uncle...a vet who died alone in a hospital room because of a virus, no chance to say goodbye to his wife, to his kids, to his grandkids, his family.....just gasping for breath he couldn't get while his organs shut down. And now he won't be getting the goodbye he deserves because funerals as capped at 5.

Then I think.....we have over populated, we are so clever we are living decades longer and our world just can't sustain this so natures giving us all big fat truck you and culling the herd.

Still digesting the news...deaths/funerals have a set routine in my family...and not being able to follow it is making it all a bit harder.

There is no way to know that definitively for the numbers here in the States.  I suppose the only place to look for compare and contrast numbers would be Sweden, which did not impose a lockdown.  Sweden is reporting that 0.0005% of its population has died from Covid-19.

Maybe you can do a zoom service? Or maybe hold off on the service until you can all be together again? My heart aches for your whole family xoxo

Would that be a good comparison since Sweden's population is reported to be approx 10.29 million vs ours at approx 328 million? That's a whole lot more people per square foot here than there
