  1. What an important story, @Kate18! The message of “all are welcome here” definitely hits home. For so long my ambivalence about quitting was a huge obstacle, like my quit was not “legit” if I had so many doubts. But you and all the other good people here helped me understand that mixed feelings were part of the process, part of addiction, and that I could succeed at quitting anyway. Being accepted and supported was crucial. Much gratitude!!

  4. Properly administered, the patch can help with the first-thing-in-the-morning craves. Right now, mornings are especially hard because you have gone all night without your fix. So you wake up in withdrawal and the compulsion to smoke is strong. Patches keep a more constant supply of nicotine in your system, which reduces the peaks and valleys a bit. They give your quit a little help till you find your bearings. There is no magic bean that will make quitting easy. Quitting takes grit. But it’s doable. We are living proof. Once you flat out refuse to smoke, so many other good things start to grow! This is an ADDICTION, which means that we will invent many excuses to keep using. We all went through that. Recognize those rationalizations and procrastinations for what they are: stinkin thinkin. Haven’t you been controlled long enough? Take the leap, and take your life back!

  7. Well done, Sandi!! You've worked hard for your quit. It's so uplifting to have you with us and to see your quit take flight. Congrats on making the one-month milestone!
  8. Woo hoo you!!! So glad you are on the Train, and congrats on rocking the first 4 months of your quit. It’s been awesome to see your quit get stronger and stronger. A good day to reward yourself, perhaps with your favorite new gelato?!
  9. Yass… ice cold drinks through straws were a major part of my quit, too! You absolutely can live without smoking @robin0212. And even more shocking: you’ll be happier! Right now your addiction is putting up a fuss, so it might feel like you will feel lousy forevermore. But you won’t. You’ll turn the corner. Hang in there!
  10. Well done and congratulations, @Rajag!

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
