  4. Eeek I missed this thread! I have bought more than I have saved probably (definitely) The first was Batman... Then 2 pairs of Newton running shoes.... My most recent purchase was my new skates, poison wheels, all of the pads, and a helmet (aka Derby gear!!)
  5. My mother used to smoke in her house. It took a very long time to get that smell out. We didn't paint or anything though.
  6. When I was in the process of deciding to quit it was right after Christmas but before the New Year. I had spent a majority of December in and out of the Emergency Room for different ailments. Blood pressure, lung and circulatory issues were among my health problems along with Diabetes and a host of other things. I knew that my heavy smoking was exacerbating a lot of my issues. I had quit many times before and all of them were unsuccessful I decided that I needed to do something different this time. I Googled forums and stumbled across the other place. I read threads there for a few days while still a smoker. Then I read one of the saddest threads that I have seen. It was a "goodbye" thread... One of the members had passed away from smoking related illness. The weird thing was it was the same member whose threads I had been reading for days. I joined and continued to read, I was still smoking as I set my quit date for January 1...new year, new start. Well, I ran out of cigarettes at 5 pm on December 31 and decided that was it. I wouldn't be running to the store for the "last pack". I started posting and never looked back. These people are what made the difference.

  11. Ah stress... I am married to someone who is either deployed and/or training pretty much constantly. We have a host of fur, two skin children, and both of our families put the fun in dysfunctional. There is always some bullcr*p happening and I am usually the one to deal with it. 2014 was a sh*tfest most of the time. So while everything was happening here I was quitting smoking. It gets easier, it really does because to be completely honest I don't think that I would be here smokefree today if it didn't. I realized that either way the sh*t was going to hit the fan and the stress was going to be there whether I smoked or not. All that was different was that I was not a smoker handling everything. When the ultimate test came to pass I got through it without so much as a thought. I am glad that it helps. I am quiet most of time but I do try to post when I feel that someone is going through something similar to me. Just so that you know someone else has been exactly where you are and it gets better. If I made it then anyone can.
  12. I love Ted! I just want to hug him!

  14. TEW, what a post! :) All of it rings true. I love when I do things with my non smoker friends because I am no longer having to be "that person". You know, the one who is constantly having to stop the fun because I need to go and be an addict. In Savannah none of my friends (all one of them, lol) are smokers. I am going to be around some friends who are smokers this summer though. My family and I are taking a road trip up the coast to visit friends and family. At least two of the people that we will be staying with are smokers. I am not too worried about it because the smell repulses me. (I can't believe that I used to smell like that, ugh).

  20. This is a great printable with wonderful advice. Especially this.. "You’ve made it this far, and you will make it through. You are stronger than you think." because it is true all day, every day. The title of the post stopped our hearts and required a defibrillator for some of us.

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
