July 22, 201511 yr Hello! Has anyone become open to allergies since quitting smoking? I've had a terrible month or so of what I thought was a flu, but now it's more like a strong hey fever - it's driving me mad. I've never had any soft of allergies at all. I had a look across google and found that there is a connection. There was one health forum that had a whole page of people who had quit, describing my exact symptoms: Constantly blowing nose, sneezing, chesty and cold like symptoms. If anyone has experienced this, how did you tackle it? It's got to a point were I haven't had a proper nights sleep in a couple of weeks and I have had to stop running! :angry: :help:
July 22, 201511 yr Some years I get it bad this year back in England the pollen count was really high, I suffered from hay fever when I was there, I came back last week to USA and nothing! Maybe as its high and you have a new nose not clogged up with muck, that's why you are suffering??

Yes, that's what I am thinking - my new super nose detects more things! - I'm just wondering if it will settle down as my system gets more used to the new nose

July 22, 201511 yr Author Are you taking anything for it ie antihistamine/ hay fever tablets to see if it helps Only just got onto the fact what it is, I've even just finished a course of antibiotics from the docs because it was on my chest, but didn't work! Tried lots of flu type medicines but nothing has hit it and because i've never had allergies in the past, I didn't make the connection till now. So, I've taken some Piriton tonight for the first time. Hope it works, because after all this while it really does pull you down!

July 22, 201511 yr I have to taken an antihistamine every now and again. The ones from the pound shop, or supermarket own brand cheap ones work just as well as the ridiculously over-priced brand ones.
July 23, 201511 yr Yes my allergies a nightmare. :/ I'm taking shots now on top of my host of medications. Ugh
July 23, 201511 yr My Allergies certainly got worse when i quit smoking. They are pretty bad anyway though and do flare up from time to time so it could have been a coincidence. They returned to "normal" after a week or two
July 23, 201511 yr Last year with the constant sniffing and throat clearing I ended up with a lung check (dramatic doctor!) but it really was the quit for me. I'd quit in the March and it all went haywire for the summer months. After around a year I didn't notice any bad symptoms again even tho I have hayfever. This year is back to normal where it's the odd day. Agree with the pound shop ones! x
