  5. Congratulations @Kelly for being 9 months smoke free. Well done and welcome to the 75%er club. You are now officially 3/4 of the way to your first year smoke free. Make sure you do something to reward yourself for this new milestone. I would be great if you could pop in and let us know how you celebrated.

  12. @Linda Thomas sorry your tied up with doctor's appointments for your dad. Hope he is being nice and appreciative, or at least less nasty than normal. The craves are normal... that first week is the worst, the whole first month is hard. At the moment everything is a trigger because it is the first time you are doing things without smokes and nicotine in some time. It really, truely does get easier. OK so you body has now physically detoxed from the nicotine but the urges and craves now are emotional/psychological its the nicotine receptors telling you to smoke because they aren't being feed... your in the process of re-wiring your brain... but you have the power to control it and only you. Just keep noping, I love seeing you nope each day, its only 24 hours you are promising yourself that you wont smoke and you can so go 24 hours without a smoke, you did it yesterday, you did it the day before... just keep going one day at a time. And if it gets really bad and you want to yell and scream and just loose it post on here... even if its just to get it out so your not yelling at hubby... we have all done it at one point or another... i'll do it again for sure... let us have your back if you need it.
  13. Good Morning Nopers.... today is India's Independence Day... so a very special wishes for a wonderful day to our lovely @Tammy ... and on this special day we should all say thank you to India for the wonderful gift of their cuisine, yoga, the pentium processor, the usb and the number (concept of) zero. Did you know that India was the first place in the world that diamonds were found and mined? Did you know the colours on the Indian flag have specific meanings?.. The orangy yellow (Saffron) stands for courage and sacrifice, the white stands for truth, purity & peace, the green stands for faith, fertitlity/prosperity & growth and the blue wheel in the centre is called the Ashok Chakra (wheel of virtue) and has 24 spokes, one for each hour of the day and it stand for perpetuity, moving forward, growth and righteousness... how cool is that? NOPE ... because I've been reading Gandhi and I know I have the perseverance to keep my commitment to a better life. Strength does not come from physical capacity, it comes from indomitable will - Gandhi
  14. After your earlier lament... this ones just for you @jillar
  15. Cream?? in ya tea... milk in some teas but cream never, cream is for coffee but only if its a Vienna but I am boycotting Vienna coffee's because they stole our crown as the worlds most liveable city, not liking being number 2.
  16. @jillar he'll tell us... just let him find the thread.... So if 10% of the population are lefties... as a righty one would assume it is because they are owners of an inferior recessive gene BUT what if that thinking is wrong and they are really an evolutionary superior model???? hmmmm.... there must be some benefit to being a lefty??
  17. I read the smoking threads but I played the games... lots and lots of the games... oh wait... nothings changed. ... nah, I comment on and even start the serious stuff now, I was scarred to before because I felt like I didn't deserve to or have the right but you know what, hindsight is fantastic... every opinion adds something, even if you don't agree with it, there is a value to it.
  18. Depends - Blink 182 Isn't it better to always be prepared?
  19. Thanks jillar... OK, just got the official email from the school... the theme is "Find Your Treasure" and they need to dress as a book character that is within that theme.... so I spose we can tweak it.... last years theme was Where I Come From... which is why she went as a banshee... which is really stretching the bow because its a long way back for her for anyone coming from Ireland... mostly she is just an aussie.
  20. Its a Mystery - Toyah Would you rather know in advance?
  21. Glad their dad could go fetch em. Frickin scary shit.. I'd be packin darkies if it were mine. We have this issue with our line quite a lot too. Doesn't help there is a psych hospital across the roads from the tracks in one section. Hope they were all ok. My thoughts are with the bloody driver... I always feel for them, they are in a train, on tracks, its not like they can swerve to avoid it... poor bugger has to live with that for the rest of their life.
  22. ^^^ Actually until about 18 months kids are neither right or left handed (unless they are missing an arm for some reason)... because the part of the brain that determines 'handedness' has not closed and is an open channel... it takes 18 months to close this process completely and prior to that kids really are ambidextrous, as parents we can influence the hand they use as dominant and sometime they will copy those around them in mirroring behaviours. There is a sympathetic reflex that babies are born with that needs to disengage to determine handedness, if there is a mixed dominance or the baby has been swayed to the side that they were not naturally going to this reflex can not disengage completely or at all and this can influence things like stutters, stammers, dyslexia, dysgraphia and processing delays as the wiring paths within the brain become scrambled. Aren't we all glad I got over 10 hours sleep last night OH and I am a righty but I can bat left or right with equal accuracy in softball, I can bat left handed in cricket but do better right handed, I can only play a guitar or ukulele left handed, I can write with both but right is better, much better, I can kick a footy further with my left foot than my right. My dad's a lefty... my grandma was a lefty... we have lots of Molly Dookers (do-curs) in our family. The kid throws a ball right handed but pitches left handed and bats left handed. It shits me having to have two sets of gloves for her for when she pitches. She can write with both hands, the writing is neater if she uses her right, but it is mirrored and from the right of the page to the left. Is she uses her left its the right way round but messy and has way more spelling errors or letter reversals. At school she would use one hand until lunch then swap for the afternoon... now she just uses her lap top and most of her work is voice to text... life is much easier now.
  23. Hey all not sure if you mob have Children's Book Week in your corners of the world but down under once a year we celebrate books... there are prizes for the best kids books and illustrators, all quite prestigious and the kids do book related activities at school all week, there is usually a book fair in the school hall and a book parade where the ankle biters dress as their favourite book character and go to school in costume for the day. NOW back in my day (fvck I sound old) all these shenanigans stopped after primary school... once you got to high school no more book week... BUT NO... the kid informs me last night that they have dress up day on Monday.... so normally not an issue, I make her a costume, she gets up early and I do the hair and make up thing and off she goes... she has been a wicked witch, a gumnut baby, the BFG.. complete with skull cap and prosthetic ears, a banshee, a zombie, the great barrier reef, and a fairy princess. She tells me what she wants to be and sort it after making sure I can find a book character to match. OH and there was the year she went as some character from the Percy Jackson books that needed a Yankee's cap for the costume to be complete and I had to waste my money buying it for her...still feel dirty over that one. Well now in highschool it has to match a theme. They can dress as anything as long as it meets the theme and they can explain how.... so the theme is TREASURE.... nice easy costume thinks I... a pirate... but nooooooooo, everyone will be pirates, she doesn't want to be a pirate.... aarrrgggghhhhhhh! what she does want are: A costume she can wear her brown knee high heeled boots (thanks sperm donor, very age appropriate) A purple dress Something like and elf or a fairy but not an elf or a fairy, well maybe an elf but no ears and definately nothing with wings. She has to have this hair and make up: SO my question is.... CAN YOU THINK OF ANY LITERARY / FOLK LORE / CHARACTERS that have something to do with TREASURE that fit with what the frickin princess wants. I'm thinking something like this for the costume... but the make up can't be changed ?
