how come second hand smoke doesnt set off craves?
JB 883 replied to JB 883's topic in Quit Smoking Discussions
"Plus kills taste buds and with so many Windows to lick.." Jesus Christ I cannot deal with you today. haha haha ha ha Well, if THAT doesn't motivate someone to KTQ, nothing will. ha ha ha ha ha ha oh gyod. -
We have all heard "second hand smoke is even worse". Who knows if that is true or if it's just a tactic used to make smokers feel guilty. Anyways so when we quit and smell second hand smoke or if someone is a heavy smoker, we are sensitive to it, it like super stenches. Something i have never seen mentioned by quitters thoughh is no one says "yeah I could smell a cigarette and really wanted one". No, we are repulsed. So then, how come second hand smoke, instead of setting off a crave, it repulses us?

Smoking dreams are not so bad. It is like you get some of the satisfaction of smoking but with none of the consequence. So basically like having your cake and eating it too. Smoking dreams are common enough really. I remember having them long before i even started. If someone is worried those dreams could cause relapse - I would say doubtful. We do plenty in our dreams that we could not nor would not in waking life. EDIT - I know we are suppose to freak out at the thought of smoking and all that but personally - I enjoyed the feeling of smoking (just didn't like the mess it created). My biggest reason for quitting is cause i was worried about my future health. After weighing the enjoyment VS prospect of an early death, I knew i had to quit.

About smoking or anything we do... Though we did not realize it at the time, when we are younger we tend to tolerate a lot more BS than we do as we get older and more set in our ways. When we are younger and we want something, we have this drive of "what is it going to take to get there?" We don't care what it costs or how much effort really. Sometimes it ends up being wasted time and energy. But that was ok because at that age, energy and time are plenty. And who thinks about their health at that age? Our bodies were perfect. But then when we are truly grown up we tend to think more "If it is that much trouble than screw it". We do not want to be inconvenienced because we now know better than the half-truths "someday it will pay off" or at least "No harm will come". As we age, we accumulate regrets, things may start to hurt, we have seen the results of reckless behavior... So we become more careful about our actions. My biggest motivator to quit smoking was - "what if someday this really does kill me?" Smoking brings a lot of inconveniences. It costs money, fire hazard, you have to step out or stink up your home, people ragging on you to quit, everything else is planned around smoking, and the never-ending list of health problems. -
Your energy will come back. You won't even notice right away when it does cause it is not real sudden. You know how we get tired a lot when we are sick? Just the body trying to use most of it's energy to heal itself which is exactly what is going on when we quit. If you read those "what happens when you quit smoking" charts, you notice the vast majority of changes happen early on, especially the first month. This may or may not sound encouraging but by the end of this month, you should be in full swing. Maybe beforehand but when it happens, you won't really notice except at some moment you will think, "Hey, I feel pretty good!" By then, you won't even remember the sluggish you feel now.

How to do a triathlon when you're a smoker
JB 883 replied to JimHannoonen's topic in Quit Smoking Discussions
The funny thing is though that non-athletes who saw you in action and someone might say, "that guy smokes", others would scream in laughter and be like "Someone who swims a couple miles, bikes over 100 miles, then has to RUN, he doesn't even know what a cigarette is." I used to think it was funny that marlboro used to offer a bicycle if you collected enough "miles" and wondered how someone could smoke AND do anything athletic. Hell of a job though on doing FIVE triathlons and also for quitting the cigarettes It would take me about two weeks to complete even one. -

To me, it also means the following entities will not get any of my money and can therefore cram their products in their asses - Tobacco companies Vape companies Smoking cessation aid companies Stop-smoking clinics Anything "pay to quit" Yep kids. there are crooks out there willing to sell you stuff to help you quit. it may or may not work. If you are poor AND a tight wad like me, you want the least expensive route to quit. So, it means more money for important stuff like dining out, clothes shopping, and maybe some more Pepsi. Instead of your dollars, give tobacco AND cessation companies a nice "bird". -
Your energy level will come back to normal soon. I was tired and half out of it quite a bit early in my quit. Kind of like being stoned off the 420. I am no doctor but i would say try to avoid new medications if possible. Quitting smoking IS a pretty huge adjustment and may not be the best time to add more meds into the mix. Your body is adjusting big time right now. Now Opah - it is not like me to actually say polite things but here it goes anyways - Tomorrow. Friday is your exact three week mark. You cannot turn back to smoking now. You seem very serious about wanting to hang onto this Quit. I think you are going to be one of the ones who makes it to that "lido deck" (the year mark). There will be hard times along the way but you can make it. And whatever challenges come up that make you want to smoke, talk about it here. We can relate.

Jenny, somehow I do not think Bakon is kidding. The nights the chicks come out ahead are probably pretty stressful for him. We KNOW just how serious a matter web forums are. Who wins what games on the web is more important than Hillary Clinton's tampons.

I have looked for a way to not get notifications over "reactions" but still get them when people comment on threads but i had no luck. I was told basically you have to unfollow a thread. I could care less if someone merely likes, dislikes, or whatever at a comment, i would prefer to to see what they have to say whether good, bad, neutral, agree, disagree, whatever.

What does BEING A NON SMOKER mean to you !!!

Where are they so expensive? Anyways to me being a non-smoker means not having hassles like trying to stay loaded up with nicotine, don't have to budget cash for smokes, don;t have to clean up or try to get rid of the smell... Basically it is one less huge hassle. -
Oh dear God, did craves ever hit for me at the three month mark. It did not help that i was scrap booking some old magazine pages but old mags were chock full of cigarette ads. My craves before then had been pretty tame. Easy to ignore really. But three months came and this happened - my nicotine receptors spoke up, demanding nicotine. It sounded like this - "Alright you lazy stupid b****, enough of this s***! You are getting in that POS you call a car, going to the store, opening your purse, and buying some G.D. cigarettes! F*** this stupid "KTQ BS, we ain't got time for it. We are tired of sitting here starving while you sit around and feel proud of your stupid Quit. Who cares about you or your f******* lungs!? Hurry the f*** up and go NOW!" Oh they were fuming! They were speaking in a manner that would make the devil blush. Screaming, yelling, cussing, throwing things, punching, kicking, meltdowns..." My Quit had been easy up to that point. But at three months, it got harder than hell. Somehow though, I resisted. Just one measily-ass puff would have got me hooked again I imagine. You are in a huge battle right now, do NOT let the receptors win. The only way to beat them is to let them starve. Say, "Hey receptors, guess what you get for dinner? NOTHING HA HA HA HA" So anyways - it took probably a few days of this BS, maybe 3 or 4, and all was calm again. yeah there are still craves but nothing maddening. Just REALLY be careful of the receptors trying to negotiate. "I can quit again later. Just one won't count/hurt. Others smoke more than me but are OK." We all know it is bull. Look for real here - you are over three months quit. You are KICKING ASS! KEEP IT UP!

You do not want anything to do with smokeless tobacco. It is very powerful and vile. It could make a goat puke. I do believe it is more toxic than cigarettes. Don't ever... just don't. About the hesitancy with turning down a smoke - temptation speaks pretty loud. The important thing is you didn't take one. Something I wish I could tell EVERY person who has quit tobacco/nicotine is this - Yes craves will come and sometimes they scream loud. But you have beat tobacco/nicotine before and you can STILL beat the craves. You do anything even once and you can do it again.

Sparkzzz - Well like when i was planning my quit date, I decided on a Friday. Even though I had to work that day but i figured i would have the weekend to go through what was supposedly going to be the worst of withdraws. I could "suffer in peace" at home. I didn;t know if others do a similar tactic when planning their big day.

That is the part that is easy to overlook - NRT is nicotine replacement therapy, not really cessation directly. But if it does help someone wean off tobacco, NRT has to be better than smoking,
-
Boo, that is true. One often uses whatever brand of social media to document each moment of their lives. The sad part is that their friends really do not care nor even pay attention. However, the criminals ARE paying attention. Here is a strange one for those of us who remember what a big deal 1984 was. Remember how 1984 they thought the feds would be watching us so close because of some book by George Orwell? The year came and went without incident EXCEPT - it was the year Zuckerberg (owner of FB) was born. So, The biggest invasion to privacy was born that year but it would take a few decades to solidify. Kind of makes you wonder what happened on Dec 21 2012 that we may not see for some time. Now where is my tin foil hat?
-
craves have been trying to creep in this weekend but i thought, "Ok, this will last only a couple moments and vanish". I forget where i read that, probably on here but yeah, power through a crave and it goes away for a while.

So I guess i am suppose to "quit" tobacco again.
JB 883 replied to JB 883's topic in Quit Smoking Discussions
People alienated because of things i say? You are giving me way too much credit. Don't no one here give a damn what I have to say. Do you really think some members are like "Well screw this, JB is (a mean person) so I am leaving". Doubtful. About the easy quit - The reasons mine was not real bad are - I smoked "roll your own" (ROY) using a machine. The tobacco was pretty weak really. Like "stepping down". I think the weaker the tobacco or the less someone uses, the easier it is to drop. I did have a hell of a time at three months. I have had failed quits in the past. Not sure why this one stuck, maybe I was just ready to quit. They say you have to be truly ready. I do not live with or hang out with smokers so the temptation is minimal. I do struggle sometimes. What i have NOT done or said here is tell others they cannot quit. Unlike smoking cessation products that talk about the failure rate. I do not want to see anyone give up their Quit honestly. Tobacco eventually kills. If I seem like a bitch, it is not that i try to be. Just how I have been treated in the past. I have done some dumb things in my past and people have not hesitated to let me know it was wrong. Usually in the form of getting laughed at, yelled at, hit, threats of various types, etc. -
See that is why it don't make no sense. Even during the early parts of the modern web, around 1995 for sake of argument, people were warned not to share too much personal info. Then along comes social media as we have known it since maybe myspace and suddenly people want to share everything. Then people started getting in very real trouble over things posted. Divorce, jail, fired from their jobs... Now it seems some people are wanting their privacy back. Why didn't they think of real world consequences when they had been warned?
-
So about the weekend. Might i ask - was it so you could go through the first few days of a quit without the stress of work? That was what i did.
-
Seems more and more people are just sharing links or posting again about how depressed they are. Fb is really bad about wanting to collect more and more info and acting like it is a game. Just stupid stuff like - Post your parents' birth dates and cities and we will tell you what Harry Potter character you are. I guess they have to cause for some odd reason people are hesitant to share things on the web. I am guessing a potato farmer in Ohio has an exciting life. Ohio isn't even a real place is it? There is one girl on my Fb page who has a habit of talking about how depressed she is. She ain't even married nor got kids! Two of the biggest things to ruin one's life she has not. Another one has a habit of posting about how awesome fat women are. Most of the rest of them, not too much. Their lives are not exciting enough to share on FB.
