  1. It's just on the horizon now buddy. Great Job!
  2. Hey T2B! We all have our own set of quit circumstances that is right for us in terms of finding our permanent quit time. You just need to find yours. I found mine quite unexpectedly earlier this year. Once you think your time is right, hold onto that feeling like a dog on a bone because that's how you will do it! You will quit forever as long as you NOPE in your head every day no matter what life throws at you. You WILL get there as long as you commit
  3. Hello and welcome Arynn Congratulations on making the best decision you possibly could for your future. Smoking does nothing positive for us and only enslaves us in the form of a deadly addiction. The good news is, you too can beat this addiction and take your life back. We have done it and so can YOU! Stick around and read all your can . There are lots of resources here including a lot of quit smoking videos that cover about every aspect of quitting. Stay busy and distract yourself through the early days of your quit. We'll be here to support you. Be sure to participate here regularly. It really does make a difference
  4. Congratulations Missdixie on reaching yet another milestone along the way to the Lido Deck! 7 Months is great! Be sure to celebrate this achievement
  5. Yes quitting is not pleasant for most of us Arynn, particularly in the early days. It's not just the physical addiction to nicotine but also the mental part of the addiction. As you say, you used smoking yourself as a support for so many other issues in your life that were difficult. In reality, smoking does nothing to help any problems we have it just adds to our problems. Smoking is an addiction and the only thing smoking a cigarette does is feeds that addiction. You feel good once it's fed but only temporarily until your body craves nicotine again in an hour or so. Learn to separate smoking and any problems you might have. Smoking will do nothing to fix any of those. Please read all you can here about this addiction. Education is an important tool in fighting this addiction. Have a look at all the "pinned" posts on the Quit Smoking Discussion Page. They are all there at the top of the page with a green pin to the left of each post. Please also keep yourself well hydrated. Drink lots of water and fruit juice in the early days. I can tell you that no one has ever died from quitting smoking, as unpleasant as it might be. I can't say the same for those who choose to continue smoking! The unpleasant part of quitting will not last forever and when you do get through the tough part, you will be so much better off and will have one LESS problem in your life to deal with. Stick around here and let us help you through this
  6. Was just trying to be supportive/
  7. Good stuff IGT! Hope you and your kids have a great Christmas. Mom won't have to keep sneaking away for a smoke this year. That alone makes it all worth it ")
  8. Good for you Steely for processing what happened here and learning a very important lesson that you can call upon in future. Smoking doesn't solve any of your problems and in fact just makes you feel like crap and add to your issues. As others have said already. This is YOUR quit and yes .... YOU deserve it! Welcome back
  9. Hey girl, congratulations on reaching the 2 month milestone! Celebrate for all the hard work you've put in to get here The hardest work is done. The rest is maintaining and strengthening that quit until you hardly even think about smoking anymore.
  10. Congratulation JB on your 2nd month anniversary! Reward yourself for your hard work then get back to strengthening that awesome quit. Be sure to stick around here for support and to support others as I firmly believe this is a great way to stay focused. The excitement of the "new quit" has worn off now. If your family and friends are non smokers, they probably think you should just be over it all by now. We get it and know it's a much longer process. Great work Jetblack - cruise on
  11. Steely, check in with us and let us know how you're doing. Haven't seen a post since Monday. Hope all's well
  12. Yup - one day at a time is the way to get it done
  13. Everyone is welcome here Abby and our one purpose is to be of whatever assistance we can be to fellow quitters. Sorry you are having some health issues but you know smoking will only add to those so just stay the course. Hopefully, you get better news tomorrow from the Dr. Please do check back and let us know. We do care about all the members of our family here and .... you're one of them
  14. Well, I missed the boat by 2 days Jackie. So sorry but I did want to mark this anniversary for you because this time next month, you'll be a full year quit! 11 months is fantastic! I know you have the best ever motivation to get there and remain quit for life. Good for you - that's awesome
  15. Oops - It looks like I missed posting your 11 Month anniversary so .... tune into the Celebration thread for the delayed posting - you deserve it Jackie - doing great on all accounts
  16. Congrats Jimmy! 5 months is a solid base for your lifetime quit!
  17. NO! It's never too late to make improvements in your lifestyle. 69, 79, or 89, doesn't matter. My mother smoked for most of her life and quit when she was about 67. She is now 98 years old. I'm convinced she would not still be here had she not quit Most of us wish we had quit earlier than what we did and yes, there's no guarantee that we will recover completely after we quit a 40 or 50 year addiction like this. There are a lot of very long time smokers here on this site and we are all committed to making a positive difference in our future. What you are doing now is not adding to any damage you may have already done and that alone improves our chance for a better life as we get even older. You can not only add years onto your life but you will also improve the quality of life for the years you do have! That's the best we can do at this point but, it's still important!! The longer you are quit, the better you will feel and the more you will want to stay quit.

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
