Hi Clement. This resembles my quit. I was about 6 weeks in when I first came here...and almost 5 years later I still lurk in here quite a bit. It does help to get through those rough spots.

Welcome to the Train @ParturMadcap! Glad you found us. Participating in a forum like this absolutely increases the odds of having a successful quit. Addiction likes to isolate us, to create an echo chamber for "stinkin thinkin" that calls us back to smoking. Engaging with fellow quitters is a fantastic antidote... it helps us thru rough times, give us insights, keeps us accountable. And this group will also make you laugh out loud, which is a beautiful thing. Six weeks is fantastic! How long had you been smoking, and what's motivating you to find your forever quit now? Looking forward to seeing you around!!!
  12. Thank you my dear! I doubt very much it's my diet or lifestyle but my mind set is definately in the right place and I agree, that's critical. That and the early detection for sure are absolutely necessary to maximize chances for a positive outcome👍 Had my 4th session today and so far ... no negative reactions. Next up session #5 Monday!
  13. LOL!! The chicken in the bikini!!🤣🤣 NOPE!!

Welcome ParturMadcap. You found the right place. When the urges come up just log in and post or just start reading all the comments and stories from others. It's a wonderful way to divert those urges to smoke. I can just get lost in all of the information here. The games are fun and also keep your mind distracted. KTQ Stew.
  19. CONGRATULATIONS on your 4 year quit! Fantastic!!!
  20. Congrats 4 years is Fabulous..
  21. Glad to hear all is going well. That machine looks the beast.
  22. Very happy to hear that there are no negative reactions! 👍 Hopefully it will stay that way! 🤞
  23. Hang in there @Stewbum! Cardiac stuff is scary, but I am glad you are getting yourself an experienced team. Bypass surgeons are hotshots and they know how to help. Something like 400,000 bypasses are done in the US every year, so put yourself in good hands. We’re all pulling for you!
  24. Wow ! Look at you go Mona Massive Congratulations you fought for this Quit Reward yourself today 🐸
  25. Congratulations! @Mona on an amazing 4 years smoke free! 🥳
  26. Yay another Saints fan!!! Who dat!!! I truly believe that our rebuild is complete, we'll own the NFC South and make a run in the playoffs! Congrats on the Hawks SB win last season!
  27. No time like the present to begin again! And I agree with @catlover that the reward possibilities are endless. A visit to a nice museum or aquarium… some new art supplies… watching a favorite movie… getting a fresh haircut… Reward yourself often to celebrate your milestones! As you are quitting it also might be helpful to be temporarily a little lenient with yourself on dietary restrictions. It’s great to be healthy. At the same time, it’s important to not feel 100% deprived. Also your blood sugar might go a bit low and you may crave unusual things. It normalizes. Keep us posted!
  28. That's GREAT news @Stewbum Keep getting them in future if you/your insurance can afford them because you never know when something might pop up, like it did in my case. Staying poactive is a must for us non-smoking smokers (wait ,,, does that make sense???
  29. That's good news Reci I hope you continue to handle this that well with the future treatments. It's been two years since my last scan. Your situation gave me the push I needed to schedule a lung scan, and with tremendous fear of the outcome! They read it yesterday and it came back clear thank goodness.
  30. My 3rd session was yesterday. Went smooth as silk and NO reactions at all later that day or evening. Tip-top this morning too so that's a relief. I actually think I'm getting off easy so far only having a brief period of sudden and complete exhaustion. There were a number of other possible bad reactions I was warned about during my initial meeting with the Doc and I haven't had any of those so far 🙏 For these sessions of getting the radiation I don't see the Doc. He's not at the actual sessions; just the technitions are there. I did get a message that I'm to see the Doc just after my second last radiation session. I thought that was kind of odd and that he'sd maybe want to see me after my last session? I guess I'll see when the time comes. And I can tell you the most uncomfortable thing I experience each time I go in is waiting around for 10 or 15 minutes in the waiting area just outside where the radiation gizmo is. I usuall see anywhere from 2 or 3 people to maybe 6 or 7 people all waiting to be called in and in most cases they have someone with them as many of them look like they are at death's door. It's sad and a little depressing actually but I thank my lucky stars that I am not in their shoes. I feel kind of bad because maybe they look at me and think ... why doesn't he look as sick as we are? It feels a little embarrasing like I shouldn't be there or something. It has taught me a lesson though and that is "don't feel sorry for yourself cuz there's always others who are worse off than you are."
  31. DenaliBlues Quit Date: 2/10/2022 Posted February 27, 2022 I’m a newcomer pinging in to say hello. I’ve been lurking on the site for a while, but I set up a profile today so that I could participate. Thanks for the experiences and the compassionate, nonjudgmental encouragement shared here. Reading the info and comments has helped me through some white-knuckle moments. My last smoke was 17 days ago. It was not a planned quit. I was having oral surgery, and at midnight the night before I learned that smoking through the post-op was a really bad idea. (As if all the other harms of smoking for the last 40 years were somehow a really good idea?! Yeah, go figure.) Anyway, I slammed into this quit bass ackwards… unprepared mentally, emotionally or physically. I didn’t have any tools to hand, and hadn’t thought through how to be intentional to set myself up to succeed. Just boom. But I’m trying hard to make it work. There’s more than just a dental emergency at play. I want this quit and the suffering it entails to count for something. I’ve been ambivalent about smoking for some time, have been living in denial about the consequences, and have let smoking control my life for too long. Cold turkey was not an option for me, personally. (Did that before, didn’t stick.) So I’m using the patch on a step-down system. I’m constantly fiddling with silly putty. Trying to stay busy. Doing a lot of wall pushups. Attempting to stay positive. Getting a grip on my triggers. Making lists of alternative things to do in those moments. Re-reading the science. Doing more wall push-ups. I’m struggling with feelings of despair and intense physical discomfort as my body adjusts to a lot less nicotine. But this week, on average, was a bit easier than the last. So maybe that’s progress? I think addiction likes to hide in the dark. It feeds on shame and distortions, and whispers false justifications to us. So I guess part of why I am joining this QT community is to fend off those shadows by reaching out for reinforcement, to try to fill my brain with something different. I need to banish that voice from the dark that says nicotine is my best friend (it’s not) and says that I can’t exist without my smokes (I can, and I have 17 days of evidence to prove it). Today I am grateful for having your voices in my head, instead. You are helping me to rewire. Thanks for listening and bearing witness in return.
