  6. Thank you Quitting Girl for your encouragement to get the wheels moving a little faster here . Having been on the Train since day one it has been sad to see it’s lack of participation of members . The passing of our beloved Jillar has been an enormous blow to all who knew her . I too am still in mourning and shock . But we have to remember Jill would want this place to carry on and help all those poor smokers who still need our help She loved this place I nearly came close to leaving too , but I’m glad the friends I have made here changed my mind We are a Family …. Lets fight to keep the Train chugging along In Memory Of Our Beautiful Jillar

  8. If you're waiting for that ideal time when everything aligns perfectly and quitting will be easy and seamless, I've got some bad news for you. That day will never come. It's because quitting is hard and must be done even when life continues to throw us curveballs that the reward is so gratifying.
  9. I hope you start to feel better soon! Glad you are still around!
  10. Hey, Sandi. Thanks for the check-in. I’m around a little less often right now. (Still slogging through the aftermath of medical treatments that give me headaches, so being online isn’t my favorite thing these days.) But that’s temporary. And in spite of that limitation, I really love and value this community of lovely, kooky, kind, wise and supportive souls. Quit Train has had my back during tough times. You all helped me keep my quit and offered a welcoming connection. I’m sure a many of us can say the same. So count me in on the Train!
  11. I’m sorry for your hard times @Pilgrim. You nailed it when you named the core issue - addiction. You cannot bargain with an active addiction. “Just this one” or “Only a few puffs because I am so stressed”… they are not real logic. They are rationalizations. Stinkin thinkin. Find your fierce. As @Christian99 said, the only way to stop smoking is… to stop smoking. Whether you’re going cold turkey or using nicotine replacement or medication to quit, it all boils down to the same thing - refusal to smoke. One day you’ll be sick of the cognitive dissonance, the failure, the stink, the wasting money, the inability to breathe right, the chemical enslavement. One day you’ll will step off the merry go round, withdrawal be damned. You’ll defy the beast. And you’ll learn that your addiction has been skewing reality the whole time… it’s not your friend and you won’t die without it. The moment that lightning bolt hits your brain, the moment you refuse to comply… you win. Time to fight. Time to WIN, @Pilgrim.

  20. Thank you @johnny5, I really appreciate your kind words! Yes, Jillar was great, and unfortunately I didn't get to know her very long, but at least I GOT TO KNOW HER! I really do hope you can get your friend to come on here! I certainly do believe that this site helps so much. I hate saying this, but many who have been quit for lots of years don't come on here, but maybe that means they are quit, or at least most of them are? So come on people, let's get this forum the way it once was!!!
  21. First off, being quit 2 plus years is awesome. There is no "only" about that. Great job and I appreciate your work as moderator and contributer in general. I do have to say that Jillar was one of my favorite people from here, and QSMB, and I am really still mourning her loss. I'm really saddened by that. I am guessing that may play a role in some of the other old-timers here. I recently re-connected with an old female friend of mine from college who used to smoke like a chimney but now vapes. Trying to get her to join this site. Yes, I do hope things pick up here but I understand your concern.
  22. NOPE!

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
