It pissed me off too that blue shield didn't credit me on either the deductible or copay. I swear the rates go up and the benefits go down by the year 😞 When I asked the girl at blue shield why bother having insurance if they don't cover anything she actually told me that I didn't HAVE to have insurance if I didn't want to! And it doesn't help that all other health insurance companies pulled out of California thanks to Obama care, which we don't qualify for either 😠😠
September 22, 20196 yr Healthcare is "Free" here in Canada, as are prescription drugs (mostly) once you hit 65 yrs. and now for kids too. So you're probably thinking; "Wow! That's great! How fortunate you are!" Hey, I know we're getting F'ed too it's just harder to tell how they're doing it: Our taxes are much higher (someone's gotta pay for all this right?) Try and get a family doctor - lol. Better chance of winning the lottery. Never go to hospital emergency. You will never come back out. Wait times measure in days, not hours (Everyone with no family doctor is there getting their hangnail treated). Don't contract some illness that's not covered (either care or drugs) or you're gonna pay from your pocket - all of it! There's pros and cons to both I suppose. Not sure which system is better or more cost effective for the people. Clearly, none of the governments have figured it out either! September 22, 20196 yr I can't complain about the prescription drug part here. For 90% of what you would normally need to take, it cost me $100.00/year and that's it. I have never had to take much in the way of prescription drugs though so I guess I'm the exception? It's the provision for care that's a real mess most of the time. In the populous areas it's a joke. You're not getting seen by anyone in a hurry. In the really rural areas there's no real care available. It's better in the medium size communities where there's care available but it's not over populated yet. The difference I saw when I moved to a smaller community last year was amazing. I go to a walk-in clinic now and I'm seen and out within 10-20 mins. Where I used to live, walk-in clinics were a 3-4 hour wait (on a good day). The walk in clinics are for people without a family Dr. or anything that doesn't require a hospital visit, although many people don't get that part therefore, hospital emerg. rooms are clogged with people that have a sniffle. The thing is there are a lot of Dr's working at the walk-in's so you rarely see the same Dr. twice. That's the difference with the walk-in clinics vs a family Dr.

I am hoping she is caring and compassionate when I get old and cranky! I don't necessarily care about health care for all. They just need to make it affordable for the little guy and the seniors.
September 22, 20196 yr My mother outlived her Dr. Now, at 99, she has to start all over again with a new one. My brother said his will take her on. They live in Eastern Canada. It's a struggle there too if you want a family Dr. so it's a good thing he's taking her on
September 22, 20196 yr Dunno what it's like where cbDave is but it's pretty good where I am...for the GP (family doctor)...even if you walk in it's never more than 2 hour wait and that's in flu season. I go to a clinic with 30 GPs, a treatment room (minor non general procedures) and x-rays/CT/MRIs etc on sight...Sobi shopped the quacks, found ones I like who are on opposite shifts and bobs ya uncle. We have "free" medical and subsidised pharma. Elective surgeries and specialists can be a long wait but major or emergency stuff you are in like Flynn...hospital waits can be long (7hours) but we have prioritised triage.

September 22, 20196 yr It's only 2 hours in flu season if you walk in without an appointment...make an appointment you wait 20mins tops. But waiting is normal at any clinic....here...my suburb of Melbourne (I'd I'm on the fringe between suburbs and farms) has a bigger population than Hobart.
September 23, 20196 yr I am lucky ...I have a great doctor ...and can usually get a appointment same day if needed... Also have a walk in centre ...where we sit and wait our turn .. Free prescription,s...as I'm retired .... Our doctor used to call in on his way home just go make sure Tony was ok ...what a guy !!!

The place I worked at was being kept alive for one reason and one reason only ..... so Sonny-Boy could have a high paying job! Son of the owner was completely inept at everything, aside from playing with "action figures" as he called them. To me, they were dolls. Anyway, he used to muck things up so badly I was always seeing red when he was around me. Something about family businesses that just never works! The owner even admitted to me once that his son was a screw-up but hey; it's his son so I guess that overrides logic. Just glad I no longer have to fix sonny-boy's screw-up's!!!
