Why is it almost every new quitter-forgets they have quit, lite up & figure OOPS I smoked-oh well it was just a few hits not worth resetting my quit meter. NOPE MEANS NOPE & NOT Maybe.

Umm, maybe falling in line with classic addict behaviors?  Those being dishonest or delusional or both.

I got it now....disappointing but time to grasp moving on. I would have hated to reset but also agree it's up to them

It's the mindset isn't it. I myself felt perfectly able to say I'd quit (even to myself) if I only smoked one at dinnertime with the kids as that was super stressful  I laugh about it now but it held me in chains for too long. I can't ever hold anyone acountable for a pattern it took over a year to understand :)  We can't all be like Chrispy and his "one quit wonder", he's my quitting hero lol :)

This is a topic that I suppose folks can only speak for them selves...this is me.....

I came for help because quiting for me was a no brainier.....

It would have been pointless me having a odd puff and not altering my ticker...

I had to fez up....be honest with myself....

For me....smoking was not on the table....ever.....

That's why I I donot effort my life into their quits; THEY quit have to stick with NOPE. Most quiters aren't serious or committed enough (at first or ever) H8ll it took me 10 years.

Call it egocentric. I'm here when I am and often atm rather so nothing then what I think, caz it's tough love and most people don't want to hear it. Name a Jess.

I do EVERYTHING for this quit. If people don't have the mindset or like most and use excuses I zone out. Maybe I'm egocentric. When someone is for real I'm there to support, but the person needs to WANT to quit MORE then anything else, Like in one of my posts, and what TEW said.

It's good new people come but none of us got there by playing 1/2 of the game but by 200% committment and if someone goes for less, I do not invest :)

Addiction is tough. We have all been there - and escaped. Often not with ease.

Those that think the way that Beth describes are thinking.....

like we thought.

We come here to be reminded. Reminded we are.

And the Bandit has a point too, we're never cleared there's Always lying the enemy inside

As a single case study:

My boyfriend took about 3 nights "off" from quitting since his "quit date" on March 1st.  He's still craving and struggling and pining and jonesing and mourning and pouting.  At this supposed 6 month mark he would normally be experiencing plenty moments of peace and ease.  But he chose to puff and now he's white knuckling the whole process...his lizard brain still figures there's a puffing option and obviously it wants him to pick it!  He should definitely reset his quit date but that's his choice - not mine.

I, on the other hand, held strong to 200% NOPE and I experience many, many moments of peace. DAYS will go by where I don't even think of cigarettes.

Just sayin...

Am I the only one who gets annoyed by 'quitters' who puff 'a single one' because of the shit and pretend nothings wrong with it?

Ok shouldn't get annoyed but I work my ass off right now surrounded with shit and I WILL NOT SMOKE. You know my mantra. I once was like that but drama won't help. Sorry. No shit / excuses justify one single puff. I'm tough on myself because if I would not be I'd smoke daily for every single drama shit and I promised NOPE, 22 Decembr I never thought I'd be like this NOW!

Hard to say nice someones uses shit as an excuse to smoke. There's no nice way to tell that and that it won't justify OR help...

Am I alone... in this?

Have I officially turned into a bitch?

Other people are other people Evelyn

They will do what they do.

Only you can decide if you allow their choices to affect you.

We know that Nope is Nope, and TEW has given a great example of why it works. Other might not agree or might not be there yet..we can just keep supporting and trying to help....

Nope works. I'm going to stick with it, whatever anyone else does...

Evelyn....

Stu is spot on .....

Your quit...is your baby....you nurture it and allow it to grow....

Don't let someone else's quit or not quit....effect yours....

Your a beautiful non smoker....this is the choice you have made....

Give yourself a hug sweetheart....you are staying strong....while others around you are not so....

Don't let anything interfere with that....

It's good you come here and talk it through.....

Hugs xx

Aww, TEW, sorry that happened to boyfriend...but you have it 100% right...there is no time off.  There is just starting over...

Well QG, i think it is because peole are in various places of being self reflective, honest, able and wiling to LOOK, LEARN and BE FREE.

Hard to see the chains sometimes when the brain is doing the  "a smoke would help me calm dowm, perk up,think, ______ "  chatter and my the ego is buying in....

it takes what it takes and I am grateful we are here to support, lift, butt kick, and cheer each other on.

Funny (interesting not haha),  not even sure what my ticker says.... a month plus....

SO THRILLED THAT 99% OF MY DAY I DON'T THINK ABOUT SMOKING AND THE OTHER 1% IS GETTING EASIER TO NAVIGATE.

...this random thought really belonged on the what I like about not smoking thread....

I'm with Stu.  Other people will figure out (or not figure out) what works for them.  I mean, if someone can puff a couple days a year and be fine the rest of the time (not smoking and not jonesing) then GO FOR IT!  Hell, I WISH I could get away with that shit, but I've been trying to quit for a decade so I know (FOR ME) it definitely doesn't work like that.

TEW in that case someone is still fooling themselves saying they don't smoke only with new years eve or socially weren't we all social smokers at first? Saying we could quit anytime... but we were already addicted Wetherby you smoke only going tj a bar or daily you somehow need it and that's the nicotine

I'm positive there are non-addicted, social smokers out there walking the Earth.

But that's not me.

That's not me in the slightest.

I have a tendency to think everyone is an addict...some people moderate!

Unfathomable!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!

moderate, hmmm...what is this moderate you speak of???
