how do we help people ?

Featured Replies

By being there for them and supporting them unconditionally in our own individual way, as long as it doesn't offend others.

I try to give advice based on my own experience. Especially if the person seems to be going through something similar.

By listening, sharing experiences and sometimes just giving virtual hugs .... Oh and sharing cat pictures doesn't seem to go astray ! :-)

I use toys, give a girl a toy and let them go....love watching that , then jumping in once they are warmed up....

I get an email if anyone posts an SOS, and try to get here as soon as I can to try to help them in a difficult time. Otherwise I like to encourage people and celebrate their milestones with them - everything should be celebrated :)

Yep. Subscribe to SOS forum, so that I can try to be here when someone needs help.

Try to participate in some of the distraction threads..to keep them moving along

Try to share of my experience, so that people are assured it is not only them

Try to keep Bakon in check...

Give them Alcohol and lots of it...............

Depends on the person really, if it's someone new and/or vulnerable kinda holding hand, motivating, reassuring and hugging, lots of hugging.

If it's someone I know longer and know they can handle a bollocking and/or need scare tactics s then it's the fear factor, scare tactics,I always picture Mr scrooge with the ghost of his future and see how bad that persons future would be if they smoked, that one works for me too,

And bear hugs

And alcohol............

I will take it to PM if I might be able to help.

I pick newer people who I feel drawn too and message them. There is no rhyme or reason to this, some people I just feel right to message, I leave them be mostly if they don't message back.

I think at the core of it the strength is this place is being able to relate, so if I can share something that someone else relates too then I feel like that's about right. It's what others did for me too and the paying it forward thing is my thing anyway. I can't be fake though...I sometimes walk away from overly dramatic as I wouldn't know what to say anyway.

I like all the styles here though. I love how there's gentle advice and then Bakon or Sarge's advice :)  I also think humour is crucial and I really should spend more time on social sections.

I think we could do with starting more threads and I think that would help. I'm in touch with a newbie who doesn't want to hassle people. I can say you're not but if there were more general type quitting threads then maybe she would join in more on her own, that's how I did it.  I love this place but I still feel like it might be intimidating to get involved sometimes?? Just thinking out loud though.

I discuss my own experiences of feeling bad or facing difficulties and how I came through to the other side. I provide matrials some times to read or watch. I provide jokes or cats

I think it depends on the person you are trying to help and the vibe you get on where they are at... some of us a good kick up the arse does the job, others need to be pandered and molly coddled... and some of us need both... just depends on the individual and the day of the week. I try first to do no harm. I think that's the key, if I think what I am saying is going to have a negative effect I move along or pop back later when I'm in a better place myself.

Dunno where I'd be without your frying pan, sure it has a don't with my name on it.
