Anxiety??

Featured Replies

Need a bit of advice, I've been suffering with I think Anxiety for a year or so, it's really starting to take over my life, I've had it not stop since Thursday, it's beyond rediculous, it's like a constant non stop butterfly feeling in my tummy and feels kinda like Impending doom or something, I can't shift this feeling, I know what's causing it this time but seriously does anyone ever suffer with Anxiety, does it sound like that's what it is, I know yis aren't doctors and I should go but I really don't want to, I will have to go see the doc soon but know they will just chuck some meds at me and send me on my way,

Does anyone suffer with it or know anyone and have you any advice how to get rid of it, or how to cope/manage it,

I'm not one for sharing my emotions with peeps so this is pretty much the first time I've said this to anybody but I'm really fed up of feeling like shittttttt all the time,

Sorry for the novel,

Thanks if you managed to get through it all lol xxx

Anxiety is real Sue.  I think you should go see the doctor for it, but try some things on your own first.  Meditation?  Beacon had posted some hypnosis youtube videos meant for quitting smoking, but maybe they could help you?  You can always talk to us about what's bothering you too.   Hope you are feeling better soon :)

I just went through 10 days of feeling like that and then it went away. I hope it never comes back. I looked at a lot of coping methods because I was trying to avoid meds until they were a last resort. I read that meditation, yoga, exercising and deep breathing are all very helpful.

I'm sorry you're dealing with this. It's a horrible feeling to have.

I have found for me the best medicine is oxygen.

Measured breathing, intent-full breathing.

Meditation if you will but, practiced SO often it is second nature and you are able do it in a split second to control an attack.

Diet can trigger anxiety for me...sugars are notorious...no sodas or sweets.

sometimes it is caffeine...tea, cafe, sodas too.

Sometimes it has been caused by low blood sugar and a banana is the magic cure.

Many of the drugs prescribed are pretty heavy duty and addictive.

I try to not go to quacks unless a bone is fractured

but, used to have an emergency stash of Xanax that helped me until I was able to deal with it more holistically.

Be really careful of Xanax....it is EXTREMELY addictive (within days) and dangerous to go cold turkey w/out med supervision.

B Vitamins ! these are essential, Sue.

Magnesium (easy Epsom Salt in your bath !)

Herbs ! Melatonin and Passion Flower are looking promising for relief.

and soothing herbs like Chamomile Tea.

google those.

I hope some of these help you, Sue.

Anxiety is a scary thing but, you can empower yourself through this...you quit smoking!  You can do ANYTHING.

Take great care of yourself.

Thanks a mill guys, I don't want meds for it and i know thats all the doc would do. I used to meditate alot but find it alot harder to do now with the kids always with me,

I have Epsom salt baths a few times a week, I started taking vitamins and omega 3,

Will try everything else suggested,

DF sorry to hear you had it for 10 days xxx

It is soooooooooooo annoying, I hate it but want rid of it xxx

I feel horrible for you. A year of that is more than someone should have to tolerate.

Can you get up before the kids or wait until they go to bed and do some of the coping mechanisms?

If you have a treadmill or exercise bike maybe you can use it while sort of meditating? Ya know, clear your mind while exercising?

If having alone time while the kids are in bed isn't feasible then try the ol' tried and true mommy get away. Lock your self in the bathroom and tell them you are pooping.

Sold my treadmill a few years ago, no room for it, house is tiny, no other exercise equipment,

I'm going to have an epsom salt bath tonight, try meditate for half an hour when kids are in bed, my youngest is at the cling to me stage and keeps coming into my bed during the night, soo frustrating when you're trying to meditate, might pop out to the chemist and get some aromatherapy oils,

Thanks girls xxx

Lol DF if I told them I was pooping they'd still be in trying to sit on my lap, my 3 and 4 year olds are like my shadow at the moment, can't remember the last time I got to go to the loo in peace :O

This is a big issue for me. I have taken medication in the past, such as Lexapro. I get dizzy, a tigtness in my chest, numb or tingling lips, etc

Have you ever done cognitive therapy, or read about it? It is great to help with anxiety. This book really changed how I think : http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/46674.Feeling_Good

This book was good http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/worry-cure-robert-l-leahy/1100266576?ean=9781400097661

I also exercise, deep breathing, meditate with videos on youtube

I find I have to work on it in order to be less anxious

Oh Sue,

Yes it is Awful. I find deep breathing and mild exercise help the most. You might try St. John's Wort. I am finding it helps me a little.

Wishing you serenity,

Karen

Yes, I have been suffering from anxiety my whole life.  I've taken meds off and on but ehhh.

Oh, Sue....so sorry to hear this...sure hope some of the suggestions help and you feel better very soon!

Sorry just wondering what way does it work if you take meds, is it daily or just when you are having an attack, are you on it long term etc

Im not knocking meds just afraid I would have to take them long term, I'm allready on long term meds for fibromyalgia so don't fancy being on loads for years if ye know what I mean x

Hey Scooby - sorry to hear ye is having to deal with this - my brother had bad anxiety about certain things and my father has bouts once in a bit as well.

I agree that medication is not always the path to take but sometimes it can help initially while you find other coping methods - one of the things besides meditation or to go along with meditation is ujjayi breathing - now that you are a non-smoker it will be even more effective. It is an incredible exercise to help relax your mind and your inner body. Can't promise it will be the end all cure but it may help.  Sorry to hear about the car thing too that is ridiculous - I hate sales creeps. Hang in there - you have all of us praying for ye.  If all else fails hope on a plane to the states - find your way to Savannah airport in Georgia and DD and I will be here to make you smile  :) XXXX

Ah Sue....'ormones innit?

La Bandita suffers and caused by hormones...gotta run, back later

Mental Health Issues affect all of us at some point or another.

In Irish, we are all loopers!

Anxiety is horrible, and La B has had a terrible time of it...all of the above advice is good. Much like addiction, one of the key things has been education. It is completely and entirely normal to have some rough periods.

You are not alone. Take some time to work through where the issues are coming from, think about how you might want to deal with it...you have the answers.

You have done the right thing talking about it....you will be grand!

Some times they offer an anti depressant that you take every day such as Lexapro. I was on this for quite awhile. You don't feel like you are drugged. It helped me have a **** it reflex. After a minute or two of worrying, I would think "whatever" and stop being so anxious.

They also have diazepam (valium)drugs or xanex which you take when you are feeling very anxious but you have to be careful as these can be addictive.

Go to a therapist and you can get sorted out. It does not have to be a long term thing. The therapist may not even suggest drugs.

By the way, if it is hormone related, then you can get on hormones like I did. I feel much better.

  • Author

I hope it's not hormones I'm only 36 but you never know,

You hit the nail on the head, that is exactly what I need to feel Mel "feck it whatever" i need to feel that again!!!

I'm thinking this started last year around the time I quit smoking and when my son was being bullied, hmmm not sure if it means anything or just a coincidence

How or what type or where therapist?? Do I go to the doc first or what's the norm??

Sorry for all the questions I haven't a clue what to do and feel luke a dope going to the docs, probably wasting their time and a load of money x

Thanks for all the help yis are very good, sorry for driving you bonkers xx

Ujjayai breathing I will look it up, sorry to hear your dad and bro suffer/ered Shaggy xxx

Sorry to hear la B has/is suffering with it Stu xxx

Thanks xx

Hormones....not just the obvious. Hits boys, girls, all ages. Not just the change.

The human mind is a powerful thing - and can drive hormones. Honest.

Sounds like you have an inkling where things come from. You need to explore them some more, maybe with a trusted friend or a professional advisor.

The single most important thing is to recognise that it is a real issue, there is no shame in it, we ALL are touched by it. Don't rule out anything Sue. Meds, CBT - why not?

The important thing is that you start feeling better!

I know exactly what you mean. As stressed out as I am now, I was way worse as a smoker.

I think the thing that helps me the most is exercise and youtube guided meditations.  Kind of helps you forget about things for a while to try and get a fresh perspective.

My fiancé suffers with bad anxiety attacks. It helped him to acknowledge it was just anxiety and nothing bad was actually happening. Also slow deep breaths. Exercise is useful too.
