April 6, 201412 yr I've read, and have been told, that giving myself daily rewards for quitting smoking can help reinforce the quit. I have to admit that this has stretched me more than I care to think about; after all, thinking about things that give me pleasure, are good for me, perhaps, and isn't going to put me in the poor house (what's it been, a century since we had poor houses?) has been difficult. Smoking has taken over most of my life and I hadn't realized how much this addiction had stopped any thought about other things. So, today I ate Gouda cheese and apple slices for breakfast. I have never eaten Gouda cheese before, and I don't particularly care for apples normally, but a slice of the cheese with a bite of apple gives a wonderful taste that I am sure I would never have been able to pick up when I was smoking. The subtleties of taste were lost on me. I am giving thought for something for tomorrow! Anyone else treat themselves today?
April 6, 201412 yr Yes! Today, I had pancakes for brunch. Mint Chocolate Chip Iced coffee. Then for dinner had steak, NY Strip steak seasoned with salt & pepper :)
April 7, 201412 yr Today, I gave myself a big treat...I bought myself some nice sunglasses... not the $10.00 ones!
April 7, 201412 yr I drank some maple syrup.....FRESH maple syrup....right out of the bottle. It was delicious. I dont know why a person would waste that gold on pancakes :)

April 7, 201412 yr Ah, Julie girl; everything okay? Yes indeedie. I swear, maple syrup from the bottle is a reward. Today was Elmira Maple Syrup Festival :) It's a huge thing in these parts ;)
April 7, 201412 yr I've just been shopping and I bought myself two huge bunches of flowers because I deserve them !
April 7, 201412 yr Today, I gave myself a big treat...I bought myself some nice sunglasses... not the $10.00 ones! what a coincidence Nancy, I was looking at my money saved from not smoking, and I was thinking this morning maybe I should buy myself some really good sunglasses instead of the $2 dollar one's everyone brings back from Bali hahaha ...
April 7, 201412 yr It is important I think. Most Never Smokers forget within days that you have quit. Smokers don't want to think about you at all. You know what is taking, and discovering new tastes, allowing guilty pleasures (the non fatal kind) is, for me part of the reward and reinforcement. Thanks for the reminder! I'm going to go out and get some fresh flowers for La Bandita!
April 7, 201412 yr I haven't been treating myself much lately, but I have spent my otherwise wasted money on treats in the past. New clothes, new shoes, whatever. It's definitely good to reward yourself and give yourself a pat on the back for doing such an amazing job!

April 7, 201412 yr Aine....what did you do today/treat yourself to today? Mine was keeping dry not darting to the garage in between the downpour of rain. No damp stinky Shazza today.
April 7, 201412 yr I picked myself up a bath bomb from Lush.....a store I normally only go in to sniff, because it smells so darned gooooooooood in there, but its too expensive. One bath bomb, one full tub in just a little bit.....thats a lovely treat for not smoking.
April 8, 201412 yr Author Lunch was hummus and sweet red peppers, which are expensive here; can't wait till our peppers grow up! Green house has a few flats of baby pepper plants, but some bug is nibbling on the leaves. Sigh. But, I digress. My treat tonight for supper was salmon (smoked bits that came in a package instead of the stupid canned stuff which I detest) on toast, topped with a slice of havarti cheese and grilled onions and a boiled egg. I had never had Havarti before, either! Cheese is EXPENSIVE. And, I finished some work at home that has needed done for the past 2 weeks. I consider this a treat because I knew I'd feel loads better after I did it, and I did. So hard to be nice to myself sometimes. Tomorrow, I am planning on going to the gym. This is a treat because I started paying for the membership last month. I could run up and down the hills around here, but I enjoy the swimming at the gym after exercising! Who else did what today? This helps me with ideas; It is difficult to come up with ideas without just swiping the credit card somewhere! One thing on my list is going to the library and spending some time looking for a couple of good books. I read online quite a bit, but I really like real books. And, I've been really antsy and impatient in the library, which looking back, is because I was jonesing for a smoke, usually. Very sad.
