September 26, 201411 yr Hey everyone: I'm mostly typing this to distract myself because I'm in a lot of pain. I don't know if any of you have this, but I suffer from Costochondritis. Costochondritis is a painful condition of the chest wall. It is caused by inflammation in the joints between the cartilages that join the ribs to the sternum. I sometimes have flare-ups, especially if I sleep funny, lift something heavy, wear a bra that isn't very supportive, if I get stressed, etc. I was doing well lately and have gone a few weeks without pain... until yesterday. I had a bad day and was really stressed out, which can cause a flare-up. The pain comes and goes, but it hurts so badly. My whole left side aches. My ribs, my boob, my back. I have popped a muscle relaxer (which didn't do anything) and am contemplating a hot bath/hot tea. Ugh. I haven't met too many people who have this, especially chronically. This pain is kind of how I imagine fibromyalgia feels... just more localized and on one side.
September 26, 201411 yr Oh, so sorry to hear this, Leanna! Take that hot bath and take the hot tea with you...hope you feel better very soon!!
September 26, 201411 yr Author Oh, so sorry to hear this, Leanna! Take that hot bath and take the hot tea with you...hope you feel better very soon!! Thanks Nancy! I'm hoping the bath will relax my muscles and ease the pain a bit. Unfortunately, we use our ribs for everything we do, so every time I move, I feel pain. Sucks.
September 26, 201411 yr I have never heard of this, but I hope this flare up passes you quickly. Get some rest and relax as best you can!
September 26, 201411 yr Author I have never heard of this, but I hope this flare up passes you quickly. Get some rest and relax as best you can! Thanks Becca! I applied a cold wine bottle to my rib cage (lol) and that helped! I then proceeded to pour wine into a glass, so even if the pain comes back, hopefully the wine will numb me! Always thinking.
September 26, 201411 yr Hi Leanna so sorry to read that you are in so much pain, try and de-stress if you can, nice hot bubble bath, sending hugs and hope you feel better soon xxx
September 26, 201411 yr Author Hi Leanna so sorry to read that you are in so much pain, try and de-stress if you can, nice hot bubble bath, sending hugs and hope you feel better soon xxx Thanks Jackie. Much appreciated. xxx Apparently pineapples are supposed to help, but I have no idea why!
September 26, 201411 yr On the brighter side: it only hurts 'til the pain goes away, right? ;) (The Sarge lives with multiple types of chronic (but low-level) types of pain.) Are you familiar with Nurse Mary Jane for chronic pain conditions when they pop up? Sarge doesn't go there, but knows plenty who do (and he doesn't mind) Just an off the wall, oddball suggestion. Take it or leave it as you will ... Easy Peasy
September 26, 201411 yr Aww sweetie. Bath and a glass of that wine can't do any harm. Oh and tea. I'm not above a medicinal swig of scotch or brandy for pain management. Feel better soon chicky. xx
September 26, 201411 yr Author That's a good way to look at it Sarge. At least the pain does go away sometimes, so there is that. Haha, that's a good suggestion. Took me a few minutes to figure out what you were talking about. Unfortunately, I can't handle Nurse Mary Jane (hasn't stopped me from trying), but I know lots of others who use her for "medicinal purposes."

Feel better soon chicky. xx Thanks Marti. xx. I'm not a fan of pills, so I'm hoping the combination of bath/wine/tea helps. :) I usually have to be puking before I take Tylenol or Advil for a migraine, so you know the pain has to be bad when I take muscle relaxers and what not for my costo.
September 26, 201411 yr Aww leanna....this sounds so painful....I have never heard of it sweetie..... Hope you are soon get the pain under control.....poor you....xxx
September 26, 201411 yr Author Aww leanna....this sounds so painful....I have never heard of it sweetie..... Hope you are soon get the pain under control.....poor you....xxx Thanks Doreen. xxx I've been suffering with it for about 2 years now. I had convinced myself that something was either wrong with my heart, lungs, or breast. The pain was so bad at one point, I could barely move. I just sort of stayed in bed all day. Saw the doctor and he ran some tests and basically told me there was nothing I could do except take pain killers and ice it.
September 26, 201411 yr Oh, I am sorry to hear that Leanna! I've never heard of it before, either. I hope you feel better soon!
September 26, 201411 yr Author Thanks Colleen! I am feeling a bit better now. Thanks Beacon. :) I'm going to go to bed early tonight after I have a few more glasses of wine, haha.

September 27, 201411 yr Ugh - that sucks!! I hate the kind of pain where you just have to wait it out until it lessens. I think you and Nancy are right on with the bath. Would biofreeze work? Or is it more internal?

Or is it more internal? I'm not sure what Biofreeze is, but I will Google it! The pain in my back feels like a massive muscle knot, but the pain in my ribs is a very gnawing ache. I hate that kind of pain too. Can't I just take something and it will basically go away like a headache? Lol.

When I had my temp acrylic teeth (for 3 weeks before I got the real ones) if I wasn't all hopped up on ibuprophen, they throbbed sooo bad. I pretty much took it straight for 3 weeks.

Ouch Jen, teeth pain suuuucks. Aw, poor hubby. :( BioFreeze is probably similar to A535. Is it a rub for muscle aches?
