From ever lurking around here, I see we have some gardens amongst us.

Will you share some photographs of your trees, your flowers, your quiet benches, your sturdy fences....all of it.

 

Can someone answer my question ? 

Why do I have one Sunflower facing direct South and one facing direct North.  My compass confirms.

I have only seen Sunflowers point to the South or South East/West but,  haven't a lot of experience with them in my garden.

Here,  you are facing South.

 

I think this is pretty weird, are the poles shifting or what ??

After the freeze killed my forest of Fence Post Cactus, I am trying to heal myself with ever cheerful Sunflowers.

I hope the crows ignore them.

Ooowww a gardening thread, I luv it ??.. not got a clue why that has happened @Sazerac I've never see it before, all I know is my sunflowers always face where the sun is for most of the day..

 

Now my garden has not much going on as we still recovering from winter and a very slow spring still dropping below minus at night but except for my snowdrops and daffodils I have this wee beauty coming into bloom it's my dwarf rhododendron..

Oh, Fluffy !  Look at that color !  That beautiful  purple-blue-y- purple !  I've only seen them purple-y pink towards fuschia colored or pink, red, white rhody-s.

Those are lovely !  I had a horrible freeze and we're not really supposed to go deep freeze but, we did.  Do you have any special heathers ?  what else you got ?

 

Thanks for your take on the Sunflowers.  I didn't want to think it was too weird but, it is pretty weird.

 

I look forward to more eye candy on this thread.  Thanks for jumping in.

@Sazerac I do love my purple.. as for heathers there is a scabby we bit under my rhody, would you believe it's the one plant I always seem kill off, no lucky heather for me.. haha

He's gone  Professional with the back yard gardens.

Clue: Genetic variability is also a thing.

The religious answer is that the anti-christ came and caused the world to flip upside down. Yeah whatever.

 

The social answer (and more likely the fact) is this -

When those two sunflowers were just buds, they had a disagreement. Instead of resolving things and "agreeing to disagree", they are both pouting and wanting to be right. One of them is going to have to be the bigger flower and just let things go. You need to go give them a stern lecture about how they are acting.

Saz I know nothing about sunflowers but maybe those two had a fight and are ignoring each other.

^^^Oh Fluffy ( @Wee fluffy me ) lookit, purple sticky flowers... you got some of them in your purple garden...

Very beautiful. I just moved to a high rise and will be on the 11th floor. I have a balcony, but not sure yet how to have a garden on the balcony in south florida. Sigh. I had always loved my garden when I had a house. If anyone has any experience with balcony gardens, I would love to hear your ideas.

Lmao, it’s not mine.  Still too early in the year in my area for flowers that mature. 

That’s a prize winner right there, for sure.

I can help a little bit.

 

Put any pots up on pieces of bricks or shards of terra cotta to keep them off the decking of your balcony.

This is actually my best piece of advice that will save you a lot of heartache.

You don't want your pots to be rotting out the floor of your balcony. 

Hanging plants and window boxes over the railing are good use of space.

 

Get a really good mix of dirt, compost, sand for your pots.  Feed with appropriate plant food.

Take wind and exposure into consideration

Grow anything you want !  

I always plant garlic cloves and eat the greens, even with low light on a fire escape.

You can grow beautiful tropicals, Iml , herbs...sweet potatoes...hibiscus...everything !

I will look up the fantastic gardens in the Barbican in London....all balconies....all beautiful.

NOPE! I got purple weeds in me lawn that look like small versions of these monsters. I think the lawn weed is called wild violets. Nasty little bastards that will take over your whole lawn if you don't nuke 'em right and proper!

 

Pretty sure these are a mutated version and are lurking to destroy me lawn when I'm not paying attention. Think I should get rid of these just in case. Maybe tonight after it gets dark? She probably won't even look for these again anyway because we're out tomorrow and then after that, I can just say "they must have died when we were at work?" Can't take the chance of these giant weeds killing my lawn! I'm "the lawn guy!"
