  1. Fabulous job, Linda, and give those gorgeous pups an extra cookie from me.

Yay for you, My Life!!! If you can make it through day 1, you can make through day 2. I slept my way through as many hours of the first few days as possible. Marathon napping sessions were only interrupted by snacking sessions. I just wanted to put as many hours behind me as painlessly as possible. When napping fails, distraction and exercise are your friends. If you have a dog, walk it. If you have a cat, pet it. If you have a tortoise, race it. I avoided humans as much as possible since I wasn't a very good-natured quitter, but some prefer to get out and interact, particularly with other non-smokers. Spoil yourself and do as much or as little as you please on your days off -- read, write, exercise, sleep, and come here to post or play games and laugh, cry and whine all you want.
  3. That's impressive, jo. Have you considered working in costume design or as a stage make-up artist? Could be fun.
  4. Pink cheers for 5 years!!! Congratulations to the kindest quitter on the block, and it looks like you're making good progress working your way through the first round.
  5. I quit several years ago and I'm not particularly good and I don't feel anything close to wonderful. Does that help? I have slowed down the damage though, so I'm still a bit ahead.
  6. I'm not here often, jo, but I found this thread and wanted to throw in my well wishes. I've admired your spunk and kind heart as you reach out to others, and now it's time to give yourself the benefit of all that positive energy you've been carrying around. It may not be easy and certainly not fun, but you've got this, and you also have a large group of friends sprinkled all over the world who are ready to back you up and cheer you on as you come through this stronger and better than ever -- no doubt.
  7. What a great post, Bird. Well done, you. That's a fabulous quit you have going and an attitude that will help it last a lifetime.
  8. Now that's a good-looking quit buddy you have! And extra walks mean you both get extra treats afterwards. Just no smoking -- either of you.
  9. Hang on, Rusty, and huge congratulations on making it to day six! The first week is almost behind you. Since every quit is different, maybe this time it's throwing everything at you up front and then things will start to get easier much more quickly than the last time. Let's go with that for now as you slog through these never easy, early days. Stay as busy as you can and get out and walk your dog whenever the worst of the craves hit (at least he'll be happy and it will be a great distraction for you). Hopefully soon you'll notice that you are breathing a little easier and enjoying the walks more.
  10. So hard, so much to lose. I'm very sorry to hear of your loss, Doreen.

What absolutely wonderful, magical news, Jillar! I'm so happy to hear that your mom is beginning to recover.

  14. Beazel, you did it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm so proud of you and so happy to see you succeed.
  15. Otm, it's truly wonderful to see you! I second Pearlie's hope that you are thriving and would love to hear how you are doing!
  16. Great to see you hangover, it's always good to have a non-smoking home to come to.
  17. Big congratulations to you, sslip!!!
  18. Congratulations, boo!!!! Enjoy the not so terrible twos!
  19. It's wonderful to see everyone here and thanks to all for the warm welcome. What a great crowd!
  20. Big congratulations to you, CA! Four days is huge and you're well on your way now. I got my first case of bronchitis about 9 months before I quit, and I still remember coughing and straining and forcing my lungs to work well enough to get a few hits off a cigarette, which wasn't easy. Then I smoked another and another as it got a little easier, possibly causing permanent damage. You are obviously making a much better choice and you will thank yourself for this forever. Keep up the great work and we will be rooting you on!
  21. Lol, thanks so much to everyone for the very kind congratulations, and special thanks to reciprocity for hauling out the time machine just for me! I'm honored, and I'm also a little backwards so this is probably fitting. To any newbies who may be out there watching -- before I quit I never, ever, ever thought that I could go 3 days without smoking, much less 3 years. But we all can if we really want to.
  22. Yes! It was like being on Gilligan's Island without the Skipper.
  23. Hi gon, so good to see you here, too!
  24. Yaayyy, Pearlie, Jillar, BKP, barry, Joe7, so good to see all of you guys ,and thanks so much for the welcome Martian and reciprocity!!! Joe7, I wonder if we're related since we have the same last name? Reciprocity, I brought along some champagne for starters, will that work?
