  2. Hello friends, I extinguished my last cigarette yesterday morning and then I destroyed the rest of the pack! I feel a deeper clarity then ever before when it comes to the seductive nature of nicotine and it's terrible affects on me physically and psychologically. I'll be an addict no longer! Nope!

  3. NOPE! Tomorrow, September 11th is a very horrible day for Americans and the Free world. I don't have to go through the details of September 11, 2001, we all know it! Myself and my family have been New Yorkers our whole life! It was a really horrible day, that day! Twenty four years have passed, and yes it has gotten a little easier for myself and my family, but not for everyone! My husband and I both knew a few people that have died that day. May their Memory be a blessing! Please NEVER FORGET!! The World Trade Center, the way I remember it!

  11. Yes @QuittingGirl, we Canadians will also never forget & mark the solem anniversary each year. A number of Canadians were also in the towers that day as well. No one I personally knew though. Canada also played a role in the aftermath by having American International flights land in Gander, Newfoundland due to the no-fly order in US airspace that lasted a few days. The locals in Gander opened their houses to these shocked, stranded American passengers and treated them like family until they were allowed to go home. They cooked for them and offered additional clothing and a number of other things that were needed due to the unexpected delay for the passengers. What happened during those days between the passengers & locals was nothing short of miraculous! Life long frienships made between people who under normal circumstances would never have even met. To this days a number ofthose passengers have come back to Gander to renew their friendships with those who cared for them during thos horrible days. They even made a broadway type play about this called "Come From Away"; which is Newfoundland speak for "visitor that lives elsewhere". The felling of the towers by terrorists was truly evil and devastating but amongst the anger & sorrow there was something good, some human goodness that did come about and although it was little known at the time, it stands as a beacon to mankind that there is still goodness in humanity and it tends to rise up during the worst of times. May all those who perished that day R.I.P and yes; We Sall Never Forget!

  12. In my 52 year smoking addiction, I tried to quit hundreds of times Some lasting hours , some last a week , even got a couple of months going . it always ended in failure After being quit for over 12 years , I know where I went wrong . I didn’t have the tools, the knowledge . i didn’t have a family of Quitters helping me along . Life is wonderful without that horrendous addiction which had me on the verge of amputation. Everyone thinks it won’t happen to them until it does

  13. A hearty plus one to all the comments about the importance of community support. Quitting is rugged - there are struggles and losses. But I never thought I’d find a tribe. Thanks to Quit Train I have GAINED so much… freedom from nicotine, a wonderful community of friends, accountability buddies, people to give me affirmation and tough love, game pals, etc. This Train is a little bit o magic! If you’re “lurking” on the site…. take the plunge!

  16. That is great @Pilgrim Remember to get rid of any matches/lighters and ashtrays that you have around the house. All of it must go! You can do this!! I hope you come around a lot so you can get the support that you need!!

  17. I definitely believe that the Train helped me get through all this. I really don't think I could have done it without all of your help. Yes, like @Reciprocity said, smoking is definitely more prevalent overseas than it is in the States and Canada. Hopefully we will get new members that stick around so we can help them!

  18. There's been a downward trend over all, according to CDC studies over the past decade or so.. Even the lower percentage years represent millions of Americans; and that's just the USA. Smoking cigs is much, much more prevalent in some Eurpoean & other countries considered to be 3rd world countries so there's still a great need for sites like Quit Train to encourage people thinking about quitting and then helping them along the way with positive support and never any judgement. I think we'd all agree that quitting on the Train with all the other quitters was an important part of our success! Thank you to Quit Train and all it's members who helped drag me through the tough days of my quit. It was quite a surprise to me how much the support of others helped me

  19. Yes, I remember it much the same way you do; the shock and fear. As you said, it was such a lovely fall day all sunny and warm even where I was 500 miles away. I was at work just doing the normal daily things when there started to be a buzz around the office that something big was happening in NYC. Something to do with the twin towers. A plane had flown into one of them then a while later another plane hit the remaining tower. That's when everyone started kind of panicing about what this all meant. The boss shut down the office so we could all go home and watch the developments on TV with our famlies.

  20. Yes I remember when the locals up in Gander opened their homes to total strangers. There are good people in this world! I saw the show on TV a few years ago. What a horrible day that was. I think everyone can remember what they were doing when the first plane hit. I just finished dropping my 2 boys at school and then I was on my way to school as well, and heard it on the radio. Originally they thought that it was just a small plane. When I got to class the professor said the South Tower just came down and that classes were cancelled. We were all in total shock. I drove home with tears in my eyes, I could barely see the road. What made it really eerie was that there was barely any traffic when I was going home which is totally unusual for that time of day. When I got home I ran over to the school to get my older son and my friend picked up my younger son. My husband couldn't get home until the next day as he worked in NJ and all the bridges, tunnels and trains stopped running. He saw the towers come down from his office. He was an OTC stock trader at the time and had to stay over at a co-workers house that night. My husband lost a few collogues who worked for Cantor Fitzgerald in the North Tower I believe it was and I lost someone who I used to work with who was also in the North Tower. It was a beautiful sunny day that day in NYC, just like it is today. I day we will never ever forget!

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
