Got off the plane yesterday...

Was walking through the terminal, headed to the parking garage. Got to the garage and felt like something was missing, or I forgot something. That weird feeling you know. Anyway, then I realized oh yeah, you would smoke right now. It wasn't a crave or anything just that something is off feeling. When I realized it was no cig I kind of chuckled, was thankful I wasn't smoking and headed on my way.

Really starting to feel comfortable with my quit right now. Need to be vigilant and ensure my comfort doesn't trick me into thinking I've got this. Still a lot of work to do. But I got this.

Even after most of the cravings and obsessive thoughts had passed, I would still reach for the phantom cigarette from time-to-time.  Years of conditioning will take a bit of time to undo.

In fact for the first six-weeks or so, I was walking around like one of Pavlov's dogs.  That little bell in my head would ring and I would instinctively reach for a cigarette that wasn't there.

All a part of the process.

I was actually having a intense urge and I realized it is now 6 months I know someone on the boards mentioned 3,6,9 were tough. The good thing is work is so busy don't have time to think about it. And I just keep saying you don't smoke.... I guess it takes a real long time to forget the ingrained habits that make us reach for the imaginary smokes or the urge to get up and go outside for a break.

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
