Corona Virus... the great global pandemic

My dad is 91, fell and broke his tibia and had spent the last 7 weeks in a nursing home.  Due to the virus, we were not able to visit him.  We would visit him by standing outside his window.  He would plead for us to bring him home because he was not being cared for.  It was a big battle with the nursing home fighting our decision but we finally got him home with 24 hour nursing care.  Unfortunately, we have had to put him on hospice care.  He is a mess of bed sores and you can see he did not get the care he should have.  I am heartbroken he had to endure this at the end of his life.  I know we would have had more time with him, if we had gotten him home sooner.  It is worth ever penny having him home and he has a wonderful group of rotating nurses that are taking good care of him.

Due to the virus, many families are having to endure this nightmare.  Many of these nursing home patients are helpless and cannot be monitored.  Many of them do not have advocates that can fight for them.

Oh Mee I am so sorry your family is going through this.N

nursing homes have No excuse for not caring for patients better, it is just unacceptable. Take care of yourself and enjoy the time that you have with your dad.

Sorry to hear this Mee 😞 I'm glad you were at least able to get him to a better situation. As you say, the level of care in some of these places is in a sad state of affairs not only where you live but everywhere I fear. Covid has just made things worse as well due to added work to be done trying to keep everyone safe.

I know where I live Covid has shone a pretty bright light on the shortcomings of many nursing homes so hopefully, something will be done to make future improvements?

I'm so sorry @Mee Linda to hear this happened to your dad. Thank goodness you have him home and being cared for properly.

Please try not to be too hard on yourself, there was no way you could have known about his lack of care since you were unable to go in to see him.

I'll keep you all in my thoughts (hugs)

I'm so sorry to hear about your Dad Linda ....

Now he's back with you ,I'm wishing him some comfort .....

I agree with being kind to you too.....I'm sure it is very stressful

Sending you a hug Sweetheart 💕

@Doreensfree, a friend came over yesterday and said that he had a few side effects after his first shot and was dreading the second one too but then when he got it he was fine. Not even a sore arm! So that's encouraging, he said a friend of his was the same :)

G’day

Repatiation flights are just starting to bring back Aussie’s from India. First flight 40 proved positive to covid tests. With close contacts that means over 70 people must be left behind on that flight. Mate, that is so sad.

For the first time since this pandemic nightmare started our county is reporting "0" cases!!!

I don't expect tomorrow to be the same but if it is then all the better 😊
