June 27, 20197 yr So I've been kicking this idea around for a while...holding polls on which is better, a cover or an original...and today (28 Jun) is the 45th birthday for the song "Band on the Run"...that's right, 45 years ago today Paul and Wings released Band on the Run...and then 12 years ago the Foo Fighters covered it.... So here they are, have a listen and let us know which one is best.... The Original: The Cover: So my heart wants me to vote Foo Fighters.... BUT ...I'm just not sure they stamped enough of themselves on it....it's just a little too kareoke .. hmmmm....decisions, decisions....
June 27, 20197 yr I have to go with the original, the only way to go (hard to believe 45 years ago, I was in advanced training for the Army). Also this album had meant a lot to me -- lots of memories!!!!

June 28, 20197 yr Gawd, I am SO old ! In My Not So Humble Opinion (IMNSHO) this is a crap song, not up to McCartney's standard. He is an awesome songwriter. This is a throw away, IMNSHO. But, if you want to do a cover, PLEASE make it your own. Switch up the key, the arrangement....c'mon, man...make it your own. The Foo people failed me completely.
June 28, 20197 yr I like this thread, Jo. I didn't know this song was written by Dan Penn. Blew my mind. The vid goes through all the covers. First, is Dan, IMNOHO, just because he wrote it. Aretha has it. Johnny Adams in the running.
