  1. No matter what is going on in the world or in my personal life.....NOPE
  2. Hi SJ, No, you're not overthinking things. I'm not saying you have emphysema....I'm not a doctor! But there are SO many smoking related diseases and the only way to avoid them is to not smoke. I'd like to challenge you to take any fear you are feeling and turn it into anger at smoking. Let it help you continue in your quit. My guess is that if you asked anyone on this board (including me) who is much older than you if they wished they had quit in their 20s you'd get a resounding "yes!!!" You have such a tremendous opportunity right now, to quit and improve your health for the rest of your life. Please let us know how you are doing today!
  3. Thanks @jillar Still out of my mind but trying The day is almost over
  4. Thanks ya'all....I have days with lots of mild cravings that I can laugh off and days with no cravings but this one was MASSIVE and lasted a while. I *dont* want to go back to slavery, or addiction..Here are the things I tell myself: if I smoked I'd stink, get short of breath, be crushed and there is no way I'd stop at just one. And even if I could stop at just one it would start the craving cycle all over again....I got this...I have shoulder surgery a week from Friday and I will heal much faster this time around than any of the other surgeries I've had....I'm in recovery and the cravings for other substances have gone away. I haven't had a drink in four years and I can sit with someone drinking, walk through the alcohol aisle in the store, go to celebratory events etc and not even be tempted. It will happen with nicotine too, in time.....These are my tools but you guys are INVALUABLE Thank you everyone.
  5. NO SMOKING NO SMOKING NO SMOKING.....been a rough day but I'm still here despite SERIOUSLY considering, just for a minute, of smoking, during the Mother Of All Cravings. I'm ok now but I think its important to talk about it when we are tempted, even if that moment has passed. So....yeah. Still standing despite cravings coming and going. They don't last long but when they keep coming and coming and coming it takes a lot of effort to use my tools!
  6. Thank you John...so are you! Our quits are only one day apart and we rock. I'm glad you made the decision to be good to yourself.
  7. I agree! I have lost the temptation for alcohol, now that I'm four years sober. I just don't want it anymore. I'll get that way with nicotine
  8. Thanks Mona, I think I will eventually. Last night I slept 8 hours....wanted to go back to sleep but made myself stay up and so far I feel okay. I'll take a nap later if I feel the need but I wanted to at least try to get back to normal. I'm glad its normalized for you.
  9. NOPE NOPE NOPE I'm so grateful so NOPE
  10. My former partner and I took a trip to NJ in 2017 to attend his daughter's wedding. While there we went to a vape shop in PA that was incredible in terms of selection, quality and customer service. We told them how much we wished they were in Seattle so we could go there regularly. Just now, watching the news, there was a brief mention of PA and BAM I had a monster craving and I giggled to myself. I love trying to figure out if a craving had a specific trigger. It helps me deal with it and if I can giggle at the absurdity (in this case a three year old trigger) it lightens the mood and helps me see this for what it is....an addiction.
  11. Thanks all....yeah I am sleeping 10-11 hrs a day instead of my usual 7-8 and feel like a truck hit me when I wake up. I'm not glad you all went thru sleep changes but I'm glad I'm not alone
  12. Thats great John!!! I'm still experiencing cravings now and then but boy, the first morning I woke up and didn't think about nicotine right away was a beautiful experience so I can relate to the joy you are feeling. Its only going to get better and better. The freedom is an amazing feeling isn't it???? Good job and congrats!
  13. It just clicked. Lately I've been bothered by the fact that I'm sleeping about four hours longer than usual and when I wake up I still feel dopey and tired. Once I wake up I'm fine but this is so out of the norm for me and its very unpleasant. How many of us had that reaction to quitting? Maybe my body needs more sleep in order to heal the damage of the last 40 years!!!!
  14. Thank you John! No that does not sound condescending at all. And I love the gif LOL
  15. NOPE! Today so far is much easier than yesterday. The challenging days always always pass as long as I hang on
  16. *laces up steel toed ass kicking boots Hey guess what???? I bought a recliner for my room in anticipation of my shoulder surgery...i have to be comfy! Anyway MY SAVINGS FROM NOT VAPING PAID FOR IT mwahaha. I just realized that when I looked at my ticker
  17. Thanks Jillar.. I rent a room in a big older house and the only place I ever vaped was outside. When the emotions hit me...thats when I have a hard time. I'm nursing a broken heart after ending a relationship (vaping was a huge thing with us....normalized it for sure) I have surgery coming up on the 17th, my fifth orthopedic surgery in two years which is just so frustrating...maintaining my sobriety while lonely in quarantine...being in recovery from addiction means pain meds after surgery are VERY SCARY and I'm doing all this during a pandemic LOL When I think of it that way its no wonder I'm squirrely. But on the plus side I'm pulling the band aid off all at once. I'll heal. The last thing I want to do is give up my quit. But I still need to talk about it when these thoughts come
  18. Hi Nana....I'm so glad you're feeling better. Some days are easier than others, huh. Also....THANK YOU FOR YOUR HONESTY. It gives me permission to feel angry and ugly and mean when I need to.
  19. Over a month in and I seriously considered buying cigarettes and smoking "Just a couple". I'm having some very serious challenges with some things in my personal life that are carrying over into my emotional, mental and spiritual health and I've been working very hard to live and think differently to get through to the other side of these issues. Its been a challenging fight. My thought was to stop fighting, just give in, sit down outside and smoke my brains out. I'm glad I caught myself. Its not the answer, its the problem. I'm living to fight another day Thank you for being here.
  20. Thanks everyone. I'm definitely going to ask my doc. I have an appointment Monday. Other than that I'm doing fabulous. Cravings side I am so grateful I'm doing this. It's bliss
  21. Hey everyone good morning! I've had this on prior quits but I dont remember how long it lasted. Several times an hour I feel the urge to take a really deep breath. Early in this quit it was easy to catch that nice deep delicious breath everytime I tried. But slowly it became more frequent a need and sometimes kind of hard to get that deep breath. Anyone else?
  22. I'm in recovery from addiction. I abused opiates and alcohol for years....been clean and sober quite some time. I still have dreams of using or drinking, and I know countless people who have been drug and alcoho free for decades who have these dreams as well....so you're right where you're supposed to be Better to be a former smoker dreaming of smoking than a smoker dreaming of quitting! Great job, keep on keepin on!
  23. I'm feeling pretty NOPE-Y today!
  24. Good morning! NOPE....cravings can kiss my fanny...I'm still winning, and so are YOU!!!
  25. Nope nope NOOOOOOPE. So grateful for my quit and all of u

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
