hallucinations make it hard to function, and thus hard to quit
I am not going to pretend to be a med expert but did want to mention this - Sometimes the reason it is hard to get certain meds is because some people just go out and sell the pills. It makes it hard for those who do not abuse or sell their meds and really need it.

I'm Getting Off The Train Tonight !!!!
Oh holy crap. Can you imagine it on the news?

What would you do?
Like a couple others said - I cannot add much more so I am not going to respond to this one.

Sometimes it is depressing.
I was looking through some recent yet past posts... There was one lady who was quit for almost a month but relapsed and has not been heard from since. Seems though it happens way too often. they come in, are hyped about the quit, everyone encourages them to stay quit, but then between week three and four - relapse. I just think - why? I imagine most quitters have had many failed quits, but doesn't that usually happen the first day instead of after 20+ days? You know like wake up the day of the Quit, go without a cigarette all morning but by lunch time - relapse. I personally feel like those don't even merit being called a "Quit". All but one of my "Quits" in the past lasted four hours. When I hit the three month mark, that is when my hardest battle came. I was rummaging some old magazines and of course every other page was for cigarettes. Triggered craves like i didn't even have during the first three days. What kept me from lighting up (besides not having smokes and not wanting to drive to the store) was thinking, "I made it this far so I know I can live without lighting up" Like all of you, I wish I could somehow help the ones who cave in but aside typing words on a screen, we can do nothing. I also sometimes wonder if being on a board that focuses mainly on smoking-related stuff makes them want to smoke again? I must admit that the only time a crave hits for me is if I am on here more than a little while. thoughts?

The smokers Remote and The Non Smokers remote
While I was looking thru this thread last night I was also watching something on youtube and someone said, "that is not even remotely funny!" So I just had to use it. If so, that way you could be smoking AND still keep the quit. Win-win. Of course all the perverts on here would want photos. Mrtitwank particularly. EDIT - that photo of the pig who is probably not attending Sunday school in that photo... You know someone, somewhere has probably masturbated to that.

The smokers Remote and The Non Smokers remote
"dies" to the lungs? Freudian slip yes? And for the OP photo - shouldn't the rest of the parts of the smoker's remote be tinted brownish? But in any case, it is at least "remotely" accurate. NYUK NYUK NYUK. har?

Two days until Bunny Girl is at Lido Deck #2
About Reci's gif - If someone asked, "So, did the dancer go down?" he could most honestly answer "yes".

Study finds quitting will improve lung health - but smoking fewer does nothing
No kidding. I mean if someone makes a recovery like that, they owe it to EVERYone to stay off the cigarettes. I mean jeeze, talk about getting a second chance. For biting your head off, keep in mind that addicts do not like it when someone points out their addiction. The reason - they are not addicted. Just ask them. WHEN she croaks or at the very least cannot work because she is chained to oxygen tanks, it will be her own fault. She had freedom, she threw it away. I mean after six months no smoking, surely the crave isn;t bad enough to draw one back in. Yeah we still get craves but they are easier to beat after so many months. Us quitters should not smoke again. Let some other idiots kill themselves with that garbage. You know Phoebe, when she does complain about feeling tired again, just say, "I wonder why? Smoking certainly would not cause anything like that". Or just non-chalantly say, "Cancer is back".

BKP is 907 days smoke free!
907 days is nothing to make a big deal of. 912 days though, now THAT paints a whole different picture! You are kicking ass! Now about that abstinence party, what can anyone say?

Hello Again!
Not much I can add. Maybe on top of the things you plan to do to Quit, also examine exact details of what caused you to relapse the last times and try to avoid those pitfalls. Most important is to not have any temptation around if at all possible.

HOW MY CIGARETTE TASTES
Funny how there is talk about cigarette flavors (especially some of the ones Camel made years ago) yet we all know smokers cannot taste worth a damn. It would be like trying to convince a mostly deaf person about how great a stereo sounds.

Still in the first 3 days
I think Doreen knows better than anyone on this board about why it is good to keep the quit. Just make sure you really fight like hell if you have to to NOT smoke. We have plenty of people come and go, I think a lot of them make it to about the third week then relapse. Do not be one of them. If you DO have to replace with a different bad habit, I recommend soda. My poison is Pepsi. The other day me and my room mate went to the grocery and get this - with all the cans and bottles, we had over 100 pounds of soda in the house... But yeah there is like this stigma that smokers have to deal with. Once we quit smoking and STAY quit, we don;t have to go to some designated "cancer up" area roughly 100 miles away, people do not talk crap about how we are killing ourselves, etc... Tell tobacco to go to hell. It has NO place in your life. Oh yeah, the "nicobitch" (as nonsmokingjo calls it) is going to fuss, scream, yell, bitch, fight, pout, and beg for you to feed it some more nicotine. But, like a child throwing a tantrum, it eventually gives up and one day you notice it "politely asks" for nicotine and you tell it "no" and it goes away again for the day

Did Tiffany Keep Her Quit ?
How come her user name is just " ... " ? I am fairly new around here so not sure but yeah it does kind of bite when members seem all about quitting and participating here then just... gone. One speculation (probably the most popular) is they lost their quit but just did not want to talk about it.

Newbies - I Cut The Lawn Today!!
looking good. I sure hope back when you did smoke you didn't throw the butts in the grass. Either way though, there is something honest about making the yard look good. Honest work.

People who died or got ill because of smoking
Not sure how to say this but i kind of wish this thread was not created. It isn't exactly a fun or feel-good thread like most around here but who knows, maybe some people need this kind of reality jolt. It does suck but I guess she decided to die on her own terms, even if that meant a rotten way to go. Passing on is probably never a fun experience, probably always painful but how many people get to choose the method of their own demise? What i cannot even imagine is what it is like losing a friend of 65 years. You two were probably scared together in pre-school and grew up to be seniors together. For hating the addiction, yes. who among us can say they do not hate it. Some quit smoking cause they get pissed off at the cigarettes. So Doreen, you do not seem to be around as much, how are things going in real life with everything?
-
So what all keeps you from lighting up again?
Grand daughter, not losing one's feet, ego... Good reasons, typical. And cbDave - if someone asked keith richards what keeps him from smoking, he would say - "nothing". I have made up my mind - Keith Richards is rough looking enough, i do not want ANY ONE of you relapsing. Look what is happening to him!

So what all keeps you from lighting up again?
We often get craves. the longer since our last cancer stick though, the weaker the craves. Sometimes i think "Yeah i could just drive to the store 1/2 a mile away and buy a pack, it would not be a big deal." But then I think of the steps it would take to re-enter the smoking world. In no particular order - Going and buying them. Waste some more cash. Knowing I would just have to go through "quitting" again. Screw that. Probably getting sick. Smelling horrid. I like to look good and smelling like someone puked in an ashtray doesn't compliment my style well. But then there is the REAL fun part... People saying annoying crap like, "I thought you quit... You know that will kill you... Then another fun part - When trying to quit again, no one taking it seriously. Like "Oh yeah, she is "quitting" smoking again. Let's see how long this one lasts". Things like dropping a bad habit or getting married - you have exactly ONE opportunity to do it and people take you serious. After that it is like a broken record. I will admit here that i have "quit" many times in the past. Usually for a good four hours. But I never told anyone I was trying to quit until last October. So TLDR - I stay quit because i do not feel like hearing anyone be smart ass about it if I smoked again.

For what its worth....how I quit smoking...
It is true that in our 40's we kind of start to realize we will die one day. No need to speed up the process. Picking a week when your husband is gone - good idea. I think for anyone planning on quitting who wants a solid quit, maybe pick a day in the near future where outside stress will be as little as possible. I started my "quit" on a Friday so I would have the weekend to suffer the first three days of the quit.
