My daughter, Megan, finally told me she was gay on Saturday. I'd suspected for years, can't explain how I knew, just got a feeling. i just wanted to write it somewhere and share how I feel.

 

Glad for her, glad that she had the courage to finally tell me (I'd dropped hint that if anyone had anything to share it's fine and wouldn't be an issue) and it must be a huge weight off her mind. I can't imagine carrying something round with me and feeling isolated like she must have.

 

A bit strange in the fact I suppose I'm conditioned to think boy meets girl, love, marriage and babies. Although at least in this day and age gay people are able to do that too, which is good.

 

A bit sad that she'd struck up a relationship (only on line mind) since September but hadn't shared with us. Although, if I'm honest I didn't share my relationships with my parents at seventeen, sorts no different really.

 

Proud...proud that she is brave enough to be what she is. We have no gay people in our family, or immediate circle, so I'm very proud of her as it must have seemed like she was waiting to drop a bombshell.

 

Not really posting because I want replies/opinions (although if folk do have any I'm all ears) just nice to get off my chest how I'm actually feeling about it all. Happy but a bit thrown off balance too.

Yeah, I can imagine all the things you are feeling at the moment. Like you, I grew up in the same boy meets girl; marriage, babies, white picket fence era. The world is a much different place now and that's a good thing when it comes to relationships I suppose. Everyone deserves to pursue their dreams and desires in life without fear of persecution from others. That's not always been the case. Good for you in supporting your daughter. Bet you're both even closer now than ever. I love my daughter too and support her in every way I can - daughters are fabulous :D

Yes everyone deserves to pursue their dreams, I'm just so grateful that we finally live in times we're they can, without too much problems from others. Daughters are fabulous, I have two who are twins. Chalk and cheese different in every way possible. Both are wonderful and I love them dearly.

Great that your twin daughters are such individuals. Makes things interesting :P 

And yes, we are very fortunate to live in places that are accepting of everyone's  freedom to choose their own path in life.

Still a lot of places on this earth where this is impossible :(

Sadly this is very true.

I have a daughter..older than yours Sharon..who i have the most wonderful relationship with...

Being able to trust each other to be honest ,is a beautiful thing...

She is not gay..but I know ,if she had come to me ,telling me she was..it would,nt have made any difference..

The way I see it..she could have been coming to you to tell you something far worse..

I only have one son and I guess if he came to me to say he was gay I would be sad. I would love him just as much but it would mean the end of the family line. I have gay girlfriends and bi friends I guess I can understand bi easier as variety is the spice of life. To each is own we are only on the earth for one go round so might as well find happiness wherever we can

Went and saw Dixie (a trans) show called Don't wear a tube top while riding a mechanical bull and 14 other things I learned drinking last Thursday. anyways she had a line "something about mama said milk is free, no don't give milk to, no who buys milk if it, no anyways you can milk me. ".

I'm overjoyed that she shared with me, can't even explain it really. She seems a lot happier too, which I suspected she would once she'd told people, must feel like a huge weight of worry off her young shoulders.
